The Woodfords Manor School & Cary Peak reside along the old Pony Express and Emigrant Trail. In the mid 1800's thousands of pioneers made there way from the high desert resting at the Springs in the Woodfords to prepare for the harsh journey through the sierras. Truly he put Nevada on the map, funded the Civil War and end was responsible for the first Commercial Cable Company which ran its first cables underneath the Pacific Ocean. He created a Catholic Orphanage Asylum in Virginia City and after his death a mining school was taught at the University Of Reno in his name. Mackay was known to be one of the richest men in western history throwing lavish parties having guest such as President Grant, Samuel Clemens, Alexander Graham Bell and even Thomas Edison. Years later after his passing this mansion today serves as a museum to honor his name but it also is home to some of the greatest haunting's in all of Nevada. Some of those haunts include a Colonel whose ghostly footsteps are heard on the stairs, lady in white and even a child who plays with the toys in the children's bedroom. Folsom Lake is home to some of the earliest gold rush settlements in the American West.  Mormon Island alone had over 2500 residents, three dry good stores, five merchandise stories, multiple shops, school, dairy, winery, four hotels and even an express ship. What once was a thriving community eventually burned down leaving behind desolation. The Army Corp Of Engineers in the 1950's created the Folsom Lake Dam between the two forks of the American River thus submerging many of the settlements which also flooded many graves that were not relocated. Today with its receding waters the town has finally came back to life leaving behind a historical wonder of what once was. Folsom Lakes Mormon Island Relocation Cemetery was erected from the early burial grounds that once graced 
Mormon Island, Salmon Falls, Negro Hill, Condemned Bar, McDowell's Hill, Natural Dam, Dolton's Bar, Prairie City, Chan Lin Din, Beckholdt, Tweed, Packwood Smith and Carrollton Bar. The dark truth is that when the lake was created many of the graveyards in these settlements were exhumed then relocated here while others were left behind when the lake was formed from the dam project in 1954. Many of the interments are unknown while other graves are crumbling containing some of the earliest miners of the gold rush dating back to the 1848. Today amongst the graves the forgotten spirits wander aimlessly hoping to be acknowledged by those who pass by!


The Volcano California's Masonic Caves were used as a Market, Saloon and even the site where 5 Masonic Pre-charter meetings took place. This limestone hill is honeycombed and riddled with many caverns which all at one time were part of the town of Volcano. Today only their ghosts of the past roam its depths as they remain forgotten and unattended to. At one time the Masons built their first Lodge #56 atop of the hill only to have had it burn down then it was moved to a much more larger warmer building at downtown Volcano. Volcano Catholic Cemetery was one of the first of its kind in the beautiful county of Amador California. As it resided along the Emigrant trail this burial ground once held a wood church which burnt down twice and by its third time of reconstruction sits right next to this place of the dearly departed. One of the oldest graves here dates back to 1852 while many of its interments are some of the first Catholic Miners who saw the beauty in the very land that the came to rest at! Volcano Protestant/Methodist Cemetery is one of the most haunting and historical burial grounds in all of gold country. As it sits on a hillside covered in daffodils many of the people were alive during Thomas Jefferson's presidency and lived full lives prior to being buried here. While the church across the road was bustling with services many of the dearly departed were celebrated then brought right across the road for burial. The first burial to take place here was in Nov. of 1850 by a man with the name of Goodrich two years prior to the small pine Methodist Church being built which was in 1852. St. George Hotel & Whiskey Flat Saloon are fine examples of gold country history. During the 1850s thuis hotel burned down twice as to where many of the locals thought that a fire demon was responsible. Its predacessor a brick structure would serve as a replacement named after St. George the fire dragon slayer. hence the flag that flows proudly at its entrance. Today visitors can enjoy a prhobittion ale at the Whiskey Flat Saloon where patrons are often victims of a coin throwing ghosts while the hotel is haunted by four resident ghost including a little girl named Rosy who drowned on the lake where its shores use to reside just outside the porches of this historic inn. Many strange things have happened over the years of this hotels operations all the way from flickering lights, footsteps, banging on the walls, ghostly music, locked doors unlocking, apparitions including a man with a cane and even beds being unmade or made on their own. Salt Springs Reservoir was home to the Washoe and Miwok Native tribes for nearly 12 thousand years. Carved out be glaciers of the last ice age and the raging waters of the Mokelumne River the reservoir was formed in 1929 to create a hydroelectric power plant to provide electricity to some of the rural towns found in the Sierra foothills. Today many volcanic ridges, domes and peaks surround this areas which provides a very secluded habitat for Bigfoot and other strange paranormal events which range from ancient ghost to blue UFOs. Dutch Flat German Cemetery was erected for the early German Emigrants and miners who came to the area. The cemetery itself is a reminder of what once was a very large boom town that had great wealth and was even a major stage stop in the area. Today many of the early German miners and their pioneer families who braved this magical land are found here left to haunt this woodsy hill in hopes that others will listen.




The Dutch Flat Chinese Cemetery forgotten residing in a pine forest is a reminder of some of the first Chinese immigrants who forever changed the wild west all the way from the construction of the transcontinental railroad to the lumber that was cut to be used in this regions first towns. Many of the graves found here tell a sad story of tragedy, struggle, life and death as most of the interments been exhumed to be sent back to China. This burial ground is all that remains of one of the largest Chinatowns of its heyday and a sad reminder of what once was.



Dutch Flat California was one of the wealthiest boom towns that used Monitor water cannons for Hydraulic Mining. Although Mark Twain was one of the notable visitors here it was also the site of the largest lumber company in the state of California and a major stage coach stop in the sierras. Some of the first plans to be drawn up for the transcontinental railroad occurred in this very town. Despite the millions of dollars of gold that was mined here this national landmark had risen and fallen. All the way from fires including one that burnt down Chinatown to major storms today many of its original buildings have stood the test of time. Besides its history it also is home to some of the oldest ghost stories in the sierras. As nature has reclaimed the town today with every place comes a story. The Donner Pass Transcontinental Railroad Tunnels is a reminder that the task of constructing nine tunnels in the worlds hardest rock is truly the work of giants or as so it seems. In the 1860's thousands of Chinese Immigrants picked, chiseled and blew through the summit with black kegs and sometimes in the process getting killed. The pass known for the tragedy which struck the region as the Donner Party became stranded in 1846 in a massive series of winter storms. Later on those same storms were so terrible that many of the laborers were killed in avalanches, sickness, pneumonia, rock slides and extreme cold. With the tunnel system complete in the later 1860's this led to a boom of more jobs when the Central Pacific Railroad integrated snow sheds which would house rail walkers, snow shovelers, rangers and even firemen. Some of those men never seen the light of day some of them paid the price before and after the construction. In 1993 these tunnels were closed off now they reside alone on Donner Summit to suffer the winds of time and where its ghosts of the past are a true testament to the great feats man can accomplish. That includes its great wall built by the Chinese which today's serves as a reminder of the brave men who took on the high sierras! Grantsville Nevada was the site where gold was discovered in 1863. Its discoverer used this as a ploy to sham the miners eventually causing the entire town to go broke until the Alexander Company bought up a bunch of claims and built a mill which caused the town to boom in the early 1880s which during those times lawlessness, greed and tragedy seemed to be its downfall. Not to mention that the town had hung one of its residents from a wood beam at the stamp mill. Eventually the rich gold ore veins came to its end and even a second boom in 1907 failed particularly after its brothel burnt down. Grantsville named after General Grant of the civil war never made it to the big time its nearby predacessor Berlin eventually also became a ghost town. Today the ruins sit nestled in the Shoshone mountains haunted by the ghosts who once roamed its very streets and lived in its various structured.



Showers Lake which resides in scenic lake basin South of Lake Tahoe in the Eldorado National Forest is said to be one of the most picturesque lakes in the region. At one time early ranches used the lake and its tributary of the Truckee River to fish and provided water to their cattle. Today this region of the high sierras is home to one of North Americas most elusive monsters known as Sasquatch. While this body of water makes up small portion of the many lakes found within the Eldorado National forest this  body of water is one of the most pristine.
