Subject: Our Ghostly Exploration Of Beckwourth Cemetery
California
Date: 5/24/2016 3:02:38 PM Pacific Standard Time From: LordOfThyNight@aol.com To: ParanormalBuffalo@yahoogroups.com, ParanormalGhostSociety@googlegroups.com, paranormalghostsociety@yahoogroups.com, ParanormalGhostSocietyConnections@yahoogroups.com, TheParanormalGhostSociety@yahoogroups.com, SupernaturalFlorida@yahoogroups.com, ParanormalCalifornia@yahoogroups.com, ParanormalNevada@yahoogroups.com, Paranormalflorida@yahoogroups.com, sierraparanormal@yahoogroups.com, PGSPhantoms@yahoogroups.com After a long days of adventuring, offroading and exploring we
were about an hour from dusk. Sometimes after I do plenty of exploring I try to
finish off my day with a small cemetery or historic site. Its always important
to add cemeteries to our site whether were ghosthunting such locations or were
just admiring some local history with that being said we made our way to the
town of Beckwourth named after a freed slave who came out west to construct the
Beckwourth Pass which was an alternative route over the high sierras since
Donner Pass to the south always had to much snow and wagons during the gold rush
simply could not navigate this route. The pass is the lowest pass in the sierras
so it does not get as much snowfall and makes for crossing the sierras quite
easy.
Beckwourth Cemetery aka Whispering Pines sits on a hill it
overlooks the pass below merely a highway today in a small community just
outside of Portola California. Its pretty easy to miss this cemetery as it sits
in a section of wooded pines above the cemetery are a couple cozy houses. I am
sure the folks who live in them homes have some good ghost stories to tell
living in an area where the cemetery is just below there decks.
I have to say this cemetery is in really good shape I seen
maybe one stone that was on the ground but out of the few hundred graves most of
them even the ones from the 1860s are quite legible. It seems the older section
is on the west end while the newer section is up on the hillside. I spent over
an hour here just walking around looking at grave sites. If you pay close
attention there was also plenty of flowers around but not to many as it still
gets cold even in May here at night. People tend to forget that the sierras have
a climate of their own so probably June would be the peak to see flowers here
not so much May as it still was snowing on some of the peaks nearby.
Speaking of peaks there is a massive one across the pass in
the cemetery you can see its rocky crown. If I lived here that would be an
awesome mountain to climb just primitively. The entire area is doused in
blankets of national forest while to the east you begin to see some of the high
desert mountains where the desert meets the alpine forest. Its easy to tell
because one area is greener and one is browner so you know the high desert is to
the east when the color changes.
Across the road is an old historic farm it might be abandoned
I never see vehicles there but I could hear cows so maybe someone is using the
pastures. Beyond the far is railroad tracks of the Union Pacific. Two trains
passed by while I was in this cemetery the loud horn on the train makes the
cemetery seem a bit creepy especially when its so quiet then all of sudden you
hear the train rush by and everything goes from calm to just loud. I took a
beautiful photo of the train and mountains in the background all from standing
within the cemetery.
I cant say this cemetery is haunted or not but there were
areas that I had gotten high traces of EMF energy with my Gauss Meter. I thought
it might be powerlines near the road but even after heading away from them the
readings just continued to go up so I have no idea. I do not think powerlines
caused this I think they were some genuine readings in the old section. Its very
rare to get readings in the critical even with power lines nearby so who knows
but there was this old section that I kept getting them so next time I go here
ill bring a different meter see if I can replicate the EMF and produce it will a
different device then again if it was a spirit I may not get the same
results.
I had spent most of the day at the Western Pacific Railroad,
Johnsville, Eureka Plumas Mine Camp and Eureka Lake. I was very tired but I
wanted to stay right before it had gotten dark. I walked around everywhere
taking EVP and could not wait to go out for dinner. My family took me out
exploring the entire day anywhere I wanted to go funny thing is all the work I
did was for our viewers who enjoy our website I did not do these locations alone
for me. But after the exploration we went up to Reno to BJ's Brewhouse and
Restaurant.
I ate like a king had rootbeer chicken wings, salsa n chips,
this italian soup with a fish fillet and shrimp. All of it was so delicious and
I was so worn out. When you drive a couple hundred miles and spend the entire
day hiking, offroading etc it does catch up with you but having such a hot meal
with a few of there special brews made me really appreciate the day for what it
was. To work hard all day and finish it off in this cemetery then topped off
with a nice meal at the Brewhouse really was awesome. I had gotten a little
tipsy and well it was nice of my family to take me out for a nice birthday
dinner here. It was not cheap though sometimes when we go out we run up bills of
90 dollars crazy huh? Between appetizers, beer and then the meal it all adds up
my friends.
Their is not much else to say about my investigation other
then I hope others enjoy this really special gem of a cemetery on our site. I
had only enough time to make it up here however I found about six other
cemeteries nearby which will slowly work on doing projects at because the
cemeteries along this pass were originally built not only for the small towns
but the emigrants who came through this pass and simply passed away along their
journey to wherever they were heading. You might get an emigrant who came to
Beckwourth for a few weeks and simply died of illness or that sort of thing.
There was not many wrought iron or wood enclosures as a matter in fact most of the grass was kind of high here. My son was jumping on tree stumps and messing around the kid loves to climb. It keeps him busy so I can do what I need to do research wise. Its just a very cozy place out in the country and over my years of doing country or city cemeteries I prefer the more rural ones. It is apparently that not many visitors come here there was no fresh flowers on any of the graves even kind of sad if you ask me then again a majority of the gravestones are older before the 1900's. Life was harsh in the sierras and the one thing I found more
then anything here is quite a few graves of infants and children who simply died
in the 1800's because of the harshness of life during those times in the high
sierras. With that being said their is some early history here because these
are some of the first people who decided to make there lives within the
Beckwourth Pass which today is simply a highway and within a blink of an eye an
easy stop to miss. Peace,
Lord Rick

![]() The photo above shows a critical reading on my EMF Gauss Meter within the cemetery. I had gotten quite a few high readings as I walked around. However, I cannot say these are valid readings since there are power lines and utility poles along the highway in front of the cemetery. With that being said my meter at the time did not pick up on power lines at a safe distance which left me wondering why readings were so high so deep within the cemetery which leads me to believe these ones taken in this selfie are genuine. Generally higher readings do signify some form of paranormal activity. Sometimes when high EMF energy is present it can mean that an entity is nearby or present and thus we often get an EVP to go with it. The photos below show our after hours exploration party since my birthday was a week away my family took me to BJ's Brewhouse in Reno to indulge in root beer chicken wings, ale, chips n salsa and a seafood dinner which included salmon and shrimp with Acini Di Pepe pasta made into an italian soup. It was quite a day as we took on the Western Pacific Railroad Museum, Johnville California, Eureka Plumas Mine Camp and finished off the evening at the old Beckwourth Cemetery aka Whispering Pines Cemetery. |
