Subject: [ParanormalCalifornia] Our Fall Oakland & San Francisco Expeditions Nov. 13th -17th 2015...... Purisima California & Redwoods
Preserve
We were on our fourth day in the bay area I wanted to get
out of the city. Purisima is a ghost town really close to Half Moon Bay. I was
pretty stoked to finally leave the big city and get back on the road. Before I
left the hotel there was a cat someone left behind at the hotel. The poor cat
was emaciated I picked up my camera because when I film I film reality most of
the time and the reality is moron left that cat to die. I then went to my room
grabbed chicken and fed the cat he really enjoyed it then rubbed up against me
to show thanks.
My fourth day was rough real rough because it was the
day my cam came up missing not sure even what happened but if any of you ever
lost a cam then you know how bad it sucks. Not just because you lose something
that is important to you but also because you lose anything you had on it that
was relevant or that you worked hard at. It was a sad day for me so pay very
close attention to my entire report later on
in.
I started to head south out of Oakland they have this
massive bridge you can cross its pretty cool I had Tammy film for me San
Francisco as I drove across the bay. My goal was to do a little hiking up in
the Santa Cruz Mountains at the Redwood Forest Preserve. I wanted to get back
with nature and history being in the center of
it.
We begin to climb into the mountains above the bay I
actually took a bunch of back roads because I wanted to visit the redwoods.
There are allot of back roads in the forest some dude nearly ran me off the road
back here and he was doing it on purpose. There is allot of narrow very dark
roads that twist and turn though the mountains I had gotten some fun out of
driving them for awhile.
I also seen a large buck on the side of the road it
appears to get quite rural quick up here as you get away from the big cities.
The view of the bay and San Fran in the distance are quite stellar also. There
is a reservoir as well you can see from the top of the mountains its all very
nice.
We managed to park at the preserve there are three
entrances but after a short time we decided to hike around because we still had
other locations to visit. The area we parked at we hiked down into this lush
forest which took us near a creek it was nice. We snuck up on a doe and her
little fawns they were just walking along looked up at us without a care in the
world.
Some of the trees are extremely old back here and large I
did not see any redwoods. The redwoods are nearly babies all the older ones were
cut down during the gold rush days. However the stumps do remain today and
although I did not see any the area I hiked at use to be the site of multiple
sawmills. So it definitely is historic as such lumber camps are what led to the
building of Half Moon Bay and bustling towns like
Purisima.
There were some nice flowers in the forest believe it or
not and here we are in November. Deer seemed abundant and there still was a
variety of birds I never seen before. Many of the trees back here are so large
its a beautiful forest it really is. You can also take in some great scenic
views below the mountains as the redwoods sit higher up near the tops of the
Santa Cruz Mtns so it definitely has some good hikes in the
preserve.
I had so much fun adventuring in the woods and well we
ended up going to get coffee before doing the ghost town of Purisima. We only
have limited time during the day to do these locations that are scenic so I did
not have time to do another hike that day. I knew that Purisima would keep us
busy for awhile although not much remains it once was a bustling little town. It
actually was one of the oldest settlements on the coast in San Mateo County so
you can see why its important to me.
Its kind of hard to find there is a ranch nearby and on
the ranch is some old farming equipment from back in the day. Along with that
there is an old red school house and a couple other structures which probably
were used back in the towns hey day on private property. You see Purisima was
just that an agricultural town right on the coastline that boasted a hotel,
saloons, stores, big large homes, post office, lumber mill and even an oil well.
The ghost town is on Verde Road I normally do not disclose locations but what is
left of it is either on private property or very well hidden in heavy brush. I
also am stating this because my camera was
lost/stolen!
I had a hard time finding the town site Verde Road loops
around into the woods and along some smaller ranches. The creek also runs
through the center of the town site and therefore if you do not know where to
park you will never find this location trust me. I had a hard time myself and
well there is a graveyard the town site is just as relevant even if very little
remains. But while driving on the road if you pay close attention ride to the
tops of the hills some of those older ranches were probably part of the town or
settlement.
Purisima's founder built a 17 room mansion which had gas
lighting and running water. As a matter in fact the founders ran one of the
largest farms for awhile in the area. Today however the area has changed where
the town once stood its like a jungle full of snakes, tickets, poison oak and
thorns. As a matter in fact we parked near an old wagon road that leads into the
town site and I was hiking above the creek when the entire side of the trail had
given away.We were only a matter of feet from where the founder once built his
mansion.
There
is this little plaque in the woods which has some photos of Purisima
and talks about the history of the town that we found after parking
then journeying on into the woods. It had some details about the town
that I did not even know but it also said nothing remains of the town
which is not true. I spent two hours hiking through the forest along
Purisima Creep pushing through brush. I found a few foundations from
the lumber mill and near the creek another one which had some stone
block protruding out of the ground surrounded by piles of old lumber.
Their are also Cypress and Eucalyptus trees that surround the clearing
where the mansion was planted originally by Henry Dobbel himself that
still grow strong today.
Supposedly there is a cemetery in the woods I never found
it where many of the pioneers were buried including the towns founder and his
wife. According to the plaque it says there is not trace of the town left never
mentioned the town cemetery either. Where graves were said to be I could not
find as vines, leaves and brush were rather dense. You could tell allot of the
foliage had been recently was cut down I guess the county is try to make this
into a park or public hiking area.
I will have to look into this further and maybe interview
others when I make a second trip out here. There is a ravine I hiked down into
where I found a foundation and some wood. Not to far from there I found a pile
of mutilated animal bones. Perhaps there are bobcats or mountain lions back here
I know that this ghost town edges the preserve which boast warnings about big
cats everywhere!!! So more then likely that was the culprit and these appeared
to be that of a deer.
I still continued to go further in the bush I was covered
in stickers and thorns. I hiked along the creek which was so overgrown and
climbed out onto a hillside in the woods. I continued above the ravine in the
woods where I found some caution tape surrounding this fallen tree stump it was
just really weird is all. Just past that if you push through the brush you can
find at least three foundations left behind of the old timber mill. The rest of
them are hard to find because a huge tree or two had fallen on
it.
I found next to the foundation what appeared to be a very
large canine set of bones scattered including a skull. I took some silly photos
with the skull to make light of the situation I always do. But seeing a second
set of bones tells me there is a predator in the area and its killed more then
once. The first set was that of a younger deer but the second set was a large
dog and something had gotten it.
I did this investigation alone because Tammy did not like
what I wrote down about snakes, ticks and poison oak. But that is with any
forest you go into your going to deal with nature first hand. Fall was kind of
setting in here so it was pretty desolate most of the poison oak appeared to be
dying off and we had good clothing covering us to keep us safe from ticks if
there were any.
The plaque that talks about the town sits in the forest
right along the top of the ravine. I would love to cross the ravine because I
bet in this dense forest there is much more to be seen and you cant believe
everything you read on a plaque. Yeah the town was abandoned in the late 1800's
and perhaps into the middle of the 1930's some remember it being a place full of
empty grayish color buildings. I was just happy to find a few small foundations
and remnants.
As far as the pioneer cemetery its weird because I have
multiple directions tell me where it is yet I never seen one grave. I then read
an article posted in the paper two years ago that talks about them erecting a
new cemetery next to the old Purisima Cemetery. That would be great if it did
exist that instead of erecting a new one maybe they can focus first on restoring
this old one considering its one of the last remaining remnants of the town
itself. Supposedly there was also a church next to the
cemetery.
I will have to spend more time searching for the cemetery
on a second trip here but for now I hiked around the woods trying to find any
foundations. There are some parts of the woods back here that are so dense you
cant even get through it its crazy so anything could be back here. I know when I
was pushing through brush getting thorns in my hands and ankles that the
possibility of coming face to face with a big cat may have been in the works
lol.
There is allot of harsh forest back here for anything to
hide including Bigfoot. Yes over the years there is bigfoot lore, sightings and
evidence found in this region. Its hard to say if something was in the ravine
just watching me silently. To be able to bring a bigfoot element into the mix
was rather interesting because if you do your homework your doing to find that
this mountain range has had some strange paranormal occurrences and here I was
in the thick of things with bones everywhere pushing through this
ravine.
There are only a few possibilities when it comes to the
ghost towns cemetery. Perhaps it was recently relocated or the exhumed the
graves which is highly unlikely considering its accessibility and how much it
would cost to clean up the foliage so you could even get to it. The other
possibility is that its just so overgrown and hidden you no longer can see it
from Verde Road or from Hwy. 1 which runs along the Pacific Coastline. But at
one time you were able to this is before the cemetery was abandoned and remained
forgotten.
I spent allot of time just hiking around the center of
town which one can see the county is trimming and cleaning it up. There were
beer bottles and some foot paths but none of them lead anywhere other then to
marsh land or into thick brush. I did run EVP here in case we pick up on any
strange audio or residual energy. I also ran gauss but it did not pick up on any
EMF in the area period.
There are a bunch of flags that appear to be marking foot
paths and small trails. I am curious if the county is going to put in a small
park here so people can visit the Purisima Site but what I cant figure out is
why nobody is going anything about the cemetery here. They act like there is no
history left behind and that is not true the founder of the town is buried there
and many of the towns first residents. Therefore this is a historic treasure no
matter how you look at it.
I left the town kind of in a sad mood was hoping to see
more but I missed seeing the Redwoods and I could not find the 40 gravestones to
go with my project. I was happy I found a plaque and the town site along with
some bones but I had one last stop. I wish I had stopped there first it would
have made a difference between losing my cam and keeping it. But I had gotten so
excited to check out the town site and locate this cemetery it slipped my mind
to stand up on the hill where an old ranch once existed. If I would have went
here first then id never had a reason to stop here later via
car.
If you cross the street which was the main route through
the ghost town there is a gate with two water tanks. I went to grab the car pull
up by the gate because earlier I did not get to climb to the top of the hill and
I figured id put away the gear run up snap a few pictures then go. I climbed to
the top of the hill only to get a nice view of the ocean and open ranch land
also to try one last time to see if I could find the graveyard from above the
forest floor.
Not much has changed back in the day the pioneers were
farming this area while soaking up the very same view. I also seen far off in
the distance a gray foundation so its obvious that at one time a ranch did stand
here but is long gone. I am sure the only thing that did change is that back in
the day this area was not as overgrown as it was today. Today nature is kind of
consuming where the ghost town and graveyard once stood. Even from the top of
the hill you could not see the town site through the dense forest but I did at
least give it a go.
I walked back down after checking out these two old rusty
water tanks and Tammy said that chocolate milk spilled in the cooler. So I sat
my camera down we were on the side of the road or on the back of the bumper real
quick to drain the cooler. The thing about Tammy is she freaks out over a crumb,
smudge, finger print, hair, dust, sand and everything else in between. She has
severe OCD therefore most of the time if she mentions anything about a mess I
just clean it so she does not get all cranky and pissed off at everyone for the
day. So I came to the rescue started cleaning the cooler and instead of
leaving for San Gregorio because I did want Tammy to worry about it later.
I grabbed the cooler put it in with the rest of my gear
putting my paranormal gear into my pack. I thought I had the cam with me and
through it in the back but maybe I didn't who knows. But little did I know when
I went up the road a few miles then had gotten out of the car to unload are
things for fishing I realized its gone or not there. So right away I go 70 miles
an hour back to where I drained the cooler the cam was gone someone grabbed it
that quick. Keep in mind this is a country road a few cars here and there but
its heavily woodsy and shaded. So either someone had a good eye grabbed it
driving along the way or somebody else may have stopped found it or maybe even
Bigfoot.
Strangely there was a lone vehicle parked on the road
while we were up here with nobody in it. When I came back to get or look for my
cam someone had gotten in that vehicle and had gotten ready to leave. I should
have stopped them but it was a woman and I did not want to come off as a jack
ass in the middle of nowhere. But the cam was gone period and it saddens me. All
my stills of flowers, natural, deer, our hike, videos from my exploration
pushing through wilderness to the lumber mill etc etc just gone like that. I was
so sore at that time and to know I did all of this for nothing sucks.
What really sucks is that I do not remember anything other
then walking around the gate draining the cooler then getting in the car and
taking off. I was only gone a short time and the camera was gone that fast so it
was very strange. What is even more creepy is that now someone has my videos,
photos and camera which does not belong to them. I have done allot of research
in that area and lots of lost and found cameras except for mine. Mine was pretty
beat to hell do not get me wrong its a great cam but only I have the warranty
and the insurance to get it repaired therefore in the condition its in whoever
took it needs to realize it wont last very long.
There is kind of sentimentality when it comes to what I do
to keep someone's videos of them filming a deer with her babies or a historical
research project is plainly fucked up. What if I was murdered and dropped my cam
on the side of the road you mean to tell me this person is not at least going to
try to post something on craigslist or locate me. In my videos I have at least
three of them that state my website then from there someone can visit it email
me hey I found your camera but NOTHING! My reward is probably worth more then
what that camera is worth since it was damaged on our last investigation and
needs servicing. If it fell off my bumper when I drove off it probably is even
in worst shape then when I used it prior during that
day!
I guess what saddens me is that people have become greedy
they have no use for a cam like this I doubt they film documentaries or are a
paranormal investigator. Even more so knowing that there are photos of Tammy and
I hiking around this overgrown ghost town and stills from us having a great time
that day is even more frustrating. Because anyone who found it knows by going
through it would be able to see the beauty in what we do. I mean I literally
fell down into the ravine and my hand was all scuffed up from thorns while I
filmed it. So for someone to keep that is sickening and they may have thought
they made out or that I left it but I did
not.
I have allot of medical issues which cause me to
sometimes forget something as simple as if the keys are in the ignition. Last
week ago I had two hours of missing time do not even remember what happened I
came to and do not remember anything that happened during that time. I tried to
speak to a doctor none of them ever are a help to me they just tell me hey your
getting old. They do not understand that its getting worst by the day. I sit my
coffee down and spend hours looking for it. Its so frustrating at times and this
time around it bit me in the ass because I lost my cam and all my work I did for
that day.
. Some of my medical issues such as severe neck pain,
injured knee, chronic pain, FMS, PTSD etc etc has overall affected by ability to
focus therefore its easy for me to forget if my keys are in the ignition or if I
have all my gear with me because I carry everything and I am overwhelmed. I have
no investigators and nobody who wants to journey with me. Therefore I have more
obligations then most to fulfill such as making sure I have all the paranormal
equipment on me, food, supplies, clothing, weapons etc etc. I do not have
investigators to watch my back or say hey Rick let me hold your camera why you
pack the car up or drain the cooler.
I carry everything and quite frankly that includes GPS,
maps, hand drawn notes, research, equipment and supplies. If I am out there at
some ghost town while Tammy is in the car anything can happen to me a mountain
lion might pounce me so its allot on my plate and I simply lost it because I am
leading these cases by myself and facing everything by myself. Its easy to
forget to grab your cam you sit down or your Gatorade or a few extra batteries
because your so involved with watching your own back and filming a documentary
in the middle of the woods by yourself. I had to much going on at once my knee
was giving out with extreme pain, cleaning the cooler, trying to save all the
supplies into the vehicle, watching behind me because I know something is in
those woods killing the local wildlife and also hunting for one of the hardest
to find cemeteries in San Mateo
County.
I walked up and down then finally had to face the reality
ill never see it again. Id be happy if someone just had the memory stick and
offered to send it. But its highly unlikely I do not feel as bad as some I read
other stories near that area of people losing there cameras or they sat it down
forgot about it. I normally never sit my down but I am not an octopus and with
me already carrying so much on me at all times I had to because it was banging
into the cooler.
I went back out to San Gregorio before the sun went down
which I did not go there to explore or do a story on. I went there to take
photos of the birds, fish and enjoy the ocean. I was so distraught that I did
not even fish here or hike around. I think I had gotten out stood in front of
the lagoon and looked out into the ocean. I was mad at myself in some ways mad
at Tammy also because lately she distracts me with my work because she really
does not want to visit these locations and she hates to hike now. So I spend
more time worrying about everyone else then making sure I check off my list what
I need to do, pick up, sit down, bring, put away etc etc. We all do that some of
you might have kids your kid cries you run to feed him or her with the bottle
thus forgetting you have something cooking on the stove nobody is perfect.
I was also mad at the fact that morally the person who
took it should know better and does not. I checked out Half Moon Bay lost and
found. I also checked out craigslist because they have a half moon bay area for
lost items but nothing at either site. Its a smaller area most of the folks have
ranches or houses that sit back in the mountains and hills surrounding Purisima
so its not an area you would expect someone to hold onto your camera at
considering most folks have cameras on there phone so who needs a big bulky one
like mine ya know?
Maybe someone knows what happened to it out there as my
post will be picked up by spiders on google but at this point for now it remains
a mystery. Maybe someone is clueless on what to do with it or where to post an
ad. I know that if they watched the videos it does state our website in them so
they should be able to contact me this way there is no excuse. Just as there is
no excuse to keep any of my nature photos or from my hard earned exploration of
Purisima and sadly this one has been taken away from me. I can only return once
again to revisit the town site and try to salvage what I lost but I wont get
everything back unless someone returns the cam to
me.
The cam was left up by the yellow gate on Verde Road
approximately 120' from Hwy. 1 which is the coastal highway. Since Verde loops
around this is the part that follows the creek and turns into Purisima Creek
Road. Verde Road is only about four miles south of Half Moon Bay the Purisima
area is considered a part of a nature preserve so its very rural back here.
Most of the folks that take the road back here are heading
on up to Redwood City which is on the other side of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The cam was lost across from the town site and what is known as the UC Elkus
Ranch property which borders the road. There is actually a sign for it then you
make a left and you will see a yellow gate. That is where my cam was lost and
that is where I was parked. I look back and think wow how strange for me to be
gone in such little time and for someone to snatch it up that quick.
I read that someone near Tunitas Creek just a few miles
south of here also lost him cam and never seen it again. I sometimes wonder if
the two incidents are related. I had to suck it up that its gone it hurts when
someone takes from you. Over the years of doing my paranormal work and
preservation projects I have had some very shitty incidents. I once had someone
break into my vehicle up in Jackson stealing everything of mine including
footage of a cub I filmed. I watched my friend get killed while walking to a
cemetery. Lets not forget the time where some hunters jumped me last year ago.
These are only a few incidents but every year I make allot of sacrifices to
visit these locations. I can only hope someone does the right thing and decided
to return it or contact me about it.
Until I get the footage or pictures nobody will be able to
enjoy my finds such as the bones or the research I did. Nobody will be able to
see the beautiful flower stills or deer grazing in the redwood preserve. When
something gets taken it does not get just taken from me but all of you who
follow us and view our work regularly. It saddens me to lose the cam and
especially the work that I did in Purisima. What even hurt me more is I had to
cancel my adventurous trip to a haunted island. I did not want to have to cancel
that I was so looking forward to exploring the island and exploring. But without
the cam I told Tammy its pointless because if I go there and cant share video
footage with our viewers what good will it do or what proof will I have I took
on such a project? I have other gear but nothing like my main cam which does the
HD footage and HD stills.
I do not know when ill be back up here however more then
likely ill come back in April. That way I can revisit the redwoods even if these
ones are only 100 years old the Santa Cruz mountains have some strange native
American lore and tales of giant hairy bigfoot like creatures. I plan on
spending a day out near the redwoods in the mountains and giving Purisima a
second go only this time finding that hidden cemetery to do a project at. I also
plan on going up to Monterrey beach for the day to do some fishing maybe visit a
site or two. Then will spend our third day exploring this island so yeah will be
back in April here to finish what I started.
I was pretty exhausted we decided to check into our hotel
that was one of the nicer things about this trip. I stayed at the Comfort Inn
2930 Cabrillo Hwy N, Half Moon Bay, CA it was a really cozy
place a couple blocks from the beach. The room was nice it had a couch, nice
televisions, coffee maker, microwave, fridge, king sized beds, desk, wifi and
spacious tubs with Jacuzzi jets. Problem is that I was so exhausted I did not
get to enjoy any of it.
We did get dinner up at a place called the Asian King
which is a really nice restaurant a short walk from the hotel. We ordered orange
crispy beef, egg rolls, rice with vegetables and spicy generals chicken. The
food was fresh, hot, steaming and ready within five minutes. As a matter in fact
this was some of the best Asian cuisine I had ever eaten before and the
gentlemen who took our order was extremely courteous to us. The restaurant is
really nice also dim full of culture but we just wanted our food to go and take
back to the hotel. I gave this restaurant a review and they get five out of five
stars from PGS it was perfect. So if you stay in Half Moon Bay they are
located 3048 Cabrillo Hwy N, not to far from downtown. They
gave us so much to eat I was stuffed and had allot leftover a meal truly fit for
a king only I am an Italian one LMAO.
I dozed off watching Scorpion after dinner however in the
morning the hotel offers a pretty diverse breakfast. The breakfast has bagels,
English muffins, hash browns, bacon, cereal, fruit, yogurt, waffles, orange
juice, coffee and so much more. I think just for that brief moment I had hit the
jackpot LMAO. Between my wonderful dinner from Asian King and staying in a cozy
room at the Comfort in I felt I was at least halfway ready to take on the world
again. I still had my cam in the back of my head about how some creeper is
probably whacking off to my photos or how self it is for someone to keep
someone's naturals pictures which is sacrilege in itself. I am sure someone will
see the stills of me smoking a bowl and try to extort me but people do it all
the time and that is when I shove my boot up there ass because I am not changing
for anyone. I like to eat hearty, smoke the best, live life to the fullest and
as hard as a work I play
harder!
That morning after breakfast I took Tammy back up to San
Gregorio we wanted to go fishing here. San Gregorio resides in the mouth of this
canyon right on the ocean. There is a creek that flows into this lagoon followed
by some beach leading out to the ocean its pretty scenic. But when the lagoon is
high there is no beach access so we had no way to get out to the ocean itself.
If you tried to hike above the lagoon you ended up hitting sea cliffs. However
when the lagoon is lower in the warmer months you can get out to the beach and
there is this giant sea cave you can go inside its pretty cool.
I did not have luck fishing in the lagoon I read that they
only catch three or four types of fish here and none of them are saltwater. Now
during a storm the water does pour into the lagoon and you may get some
saltwater fish here but there was not a single fish biting. I seen allot of
birds in the lagoon but that was about it. I seen this very pretty flower
growing near the lagoon and allot of birds I never seen in my life. I wish I had
my cam this one bird sat next to me while this other orange and black bird
landed a foot away from me. More so then fishing the bird watching here is allot
of fun and there is allot of different species. Many years ago a group of early
explorers spent time in San Gregorio because the men had fallen in that is when
the decided to head north where they found the San Francisco Bay.
We hiked to the overlooks to look down the coast and you
could see mist from the waves hitting the cliffs. The coastline in this region
is pretty with giant sharp jagged rocks protruding just off of the shoreline
while the cliffs are sheer drop offs. I wanted to get out to the ocean to fish
the waves were intense but it had to be better then the lagoon. We decided to
pack it up I did not stay long and it cost me 8 dollars to park in an area that
had such limited accessibility at the time.
We decided to stop by Half Moon Bay one last time we had
gotten a snack and a coffee. We tend to do that allot on our journeys. Gas stations have some
pretty good caffeinated drinks while on the go especially high energy coffee
lol. Not sure how many of you realize this but some
of the large waves or Mavericks in the world are sighted here north of Half Moon
Bay. You can drive out to the peninsula surfing those waves or if you feel more
comfortable watching others surf them lol.
We then drove along the coastline which is a pretty drive
allot of cliffs including this deep tunnel we drove through till we reached
Pacifica. I really wanted to drive along the coast and smoke one I had at least
gotten to do that. I did allot of toking on this trip as a matter in fact you
need to after driving through Oakland and San Francisco lol. I never been to
Pacifica but its a bustling little sea town and it does boast some good fishing
from what I ready.
In Pacifica they have this 1200' pier its free to fish off
of and we had gotten lucky there was a moment where it had gotten to be a nice
day. The ocean was calm, warm out, sun was out and nobody was on the pier hardly
fishing. I really wanted to catch some Halibut or maybe a shark to throw some
steaks on the grill. You can catch anything in that vast ocean even something
that is a monster with a mouth full of teeth. Its kind of like paranormal
investigating you never know when you might see Bigfoot or some lake monsters it
might be a right time and place
thing.
I did fish not to far from an old Chinese man who made me
laugh allot because at first he dropped his pole into the ocean but then had
gotten it back but at first he looked at me and said oh shit lol. That was about
the only word he knew his English was very poor. The second time he hooked a
large sea bird and it bit him he was bleeding. This dad and I held it down we
carefully took out the fishing line wrapped around the wing and three hooks. We
set it free the bird was fine but pretty startled although they do not learn the
same one moments later try to swoop down when I through my line into the
ocean.
There was a pelican that I could pose with he was not
moving for anything but he watched me with his eyes which seemed to watching me
even when I standing behind him lol. I caught a ton of crabs a few of them may
have weighed in the 6 lb range maybe more. But you cant keep them there are
warnings along the coastline from the bay down stating that eating them can
cause sickness and in some cases death. That sucked or id had a whole giant
cooler of crab legs for my kids and I. At least I did not capture someone's
trash like I did up in Oakland.
I will say I had gotten some really big bites I put an
entire squid on a hook and something took it leaving me just the head. So all in
all that was a really fun part about this entire trip is getting to saltwater
fish. The seagulls here are the size of turkeys and its pretty cool to watch the
birds dive down for fish. The Chinese guy was not having lucky but he had me
laughing. I had gotten some bites but no fish same with Tammy she had a few
also. We tried to at least salvage the trip despite the cam incident I was
bumming because I really would have been on this island out in open water
exploring abandoned buildings and smoking on its shore. So I will wait with
anticipation for a second go at this and ill be ready trust me!!! Were not done
with this area I will sink my teeth into many great locations along the Pacific
Coast of California.
We had to leave the pier a massive storm was coming in
high winds, gray skies etc etc. It took me nearly over two hours to get out of
San Francisco. The traffic jam I was in ran from nearly south of the Bay all the
way up to Vallejo. As a matter in fact the traffic was so dense all the way from
San Fran to Sacramento. When I had gotten off one of the expressways it took me
an hour just to get on another one because I was sitting in traffic downtown
waiting a mile back to get on the on ramp. People honking, cutting others off,
holding up traffic and a rat maze going around this block and that block all
just to get onto the expressway.
One I reached the sierra mountain range that is it no
traffic as a matter in fact I drove all the way up to Tahoe with not a single
car behind me. It was cold I hit some patches of ice and snow. Actually while I
was enjoying the beach they had gotten another foot up here. Right now Tahoe is
a winter wonderland every single mountain to the bottom is covered in snow. Its
on the trees, piled along the sides of the roads and peaks are snowcapped. The
cliffs looked like they were dipped in powder its pretty nice and I missed it
because this area is my home
now.
I can do without the pollution, hostile drivers, traffic,
crime, rats, garbage, rude people, greedy idiots, thieves, rowdy folks and
everything that comes with the city. I mean just getting out of San Fran alone
between that and coming home took me a little over 5 hours and its only a couple
hundred miles drive for me. I was so happy to come home play with my kittens who
all climbed up in my lap and play with my dogs. It was a rough trip for me allot
of things did not go how I planned it and I guess I can look back and learn from
all of this. If anything I learned allot about driving in the Bay area and where
not to go lol.
I am surprised I survived driving through the hood in
Oakland for two hours. I will not do that again I had some guy try to honk me
out into moving traffic and I seen someone else in such a big hurry they parked
up on the train tracks. It was a crazy trip but as long as Tammy and Leona had
gotten to the football game safe I am happy because that was my main priority. I
am sure none of us will forget this trip anytime soon I tried to drive fast
through the city to give everyone a heart attack or adrenaline rush I think I
succeeded at both lol.
I cant dwell on the past but my next trip and future trips
are going to be better. The bay area has some very interesting sites and I still
want to check out the Berkeley mystery walls which might be some forbidden
history. There have been shows about it but I have to hike up into the mountains
and see them for myself so in the future if you are from that area lets smoke,
drink some brews and do some adventuring! I do plan on doing more projects out
there and since the came is gone ill be returning for a second take here.
As far as any media from Purisima for now as it stands its
lost forever although there is a lost cam site where folks have gotten back
there pictures, cards or even cameras months later so you never know. Maybe
someone will do the right thing and realize the reward really is worth more then
the cam itself. It comes down to greed and I seen so much of it on this trip.
For example the pipes burst at the hotel they give us 20 dollars credit on an
overpriced room to begin with. Then they force you to park and pay or you cant
access your hotel. Everybody wants your money more and more and more and you
cant even dine cheap our bill for four adults at TGI Fridays was around 150
dollars!!!
All in all I did manage to salvage most of the trip by
doing explorations at the Sutro Pools, Fort Miley and those very beautiful
cemeteries in Oakland. The next time I go to Purisima ill know where everything
is and all its hidden gems. But I also hope my next visit I am able to locate
the pioneer cemetery. The only thing I have left from my first expedition in the
Purisima woods and ghost town exploration are the EVP's.
Its an eerie little place in the woods vines, dense
forest, ravines etc I cant wait to return again this time ill make sure I glue
the camera to me or something lol. Much more awaits us and remains to be seen!
Something is lurking around the forest of Purisima and I cant wait to find it! I
know much more remains to be seen out here if you have any information about my
camera much appreciated. If you wish to make a donation so we can replace it you
can send them to pondercorp57@yahoo.com at paypal to show your member support. Just remember its
not how much you give its that you are trying to help out. Small donations mean
allot especially if everyone is making an effort to give
one.
It is good to be home in an in my element I cant take the
city much longer so in April ill be returning if I am coming to your state or
region let me know so we can get together and explore. Hopefully our next trip
wont be so chaotic then again cities are unpredictable so ill do my best not to
stay in it. My journey took me along the Pacific Coast to cityscapes in the bay
area and all the way to the forested mountains where ancient trees grew upon a
long forgotten abandoned coastal town. I cannot wait to see what will find next
or where we will go.Were far from done and have plenty of more coastal
adventures coming! Peace,
Lord Rick

Sorry Folks I do not have any photo evidence to share someone hiding up in the woods of Purissima had stolen my camera when I sat it down to clean my cooler. When I returned the empty pickup truck had a middle aged couple honestly both looked methed out. The woman had long curly hair the man had shorter brown hair and a mustache. They fled the scene when I came back to get my camera driving a brownish to beige pick up truck with a white rusty metal utility rack in the back. Assuming the truck was parked in front of the town site for three hours with nobody in site more then likely these individuals live in the area and probably know it well. Its quite possible they live in Redwood City, Half Moon Bay, San Mateo or even Pacifica a short distance away. If anybody has information about what happened to my Nikon P610 Camera you can contact me privately at LordOfThyNight@aol.com I was offering a reward which was worth more then the camera itself because the pictures and video mean so much more to me then the camera itself since the motor was going on it. Someone had purposely kept the camera even though during a couple of my videos I did state our website therefore it would have been quite easy for someone to list it on craigslist or the Half Moon Bay lost n found site or even just to go to our website and hit the contact button. Whoever took it failed to do any of the three rather they just kept my camera and all its contents from our first adventure in Purissima which contained nature shots, strange dens, pictures of the pumpkin ranch, offroading in the Santa Cruz mountains, an animal skull, remnants of the town, pictures of my girlfriend and I etc. We believe these individuals were hiding in the woods watching us and when they seen me leave my camera they grabbed it trying to leave the area when I came back remembering I sat it next to my cooler that I was draining all the water out of. |
