During my production preservation project on the history of Williams Station I encountered five hunters who approached me with immediate hostility as you will come to find out from this clip I have compiled. Now keep in mind this is a public state park people come here to camp, picnic, hike, metal detect and hunt all proceeds go to the state park.  After I worked hard to trudge through the mud they came rolling on in showing signs of hostility. They are wanted for questioning in regards to unlawful imprisonment, harassment, assault and terroristic threats directed towards me. I was not interrupting their hunt they just decided not to share the land with another fellow Nevadan thus humiliating me and taking away my freedom therefore I want to bring these men to justice and my goal is to clean up the trash in the Lake Lahontan area literally! This documentary is a detailed encounter with these hunters all the way from video footage, sound clips, photos and lastly a personal long segment which talks about my encounter with the hunters and the dark history that surrounds the area starting at the 13:55 time stamp. This area was once under an ancient sea later the white man came into the area built Williams Station which such stations became issues for the local natives though the station was burned and raided in a massacre. Later on this would lead to the Paiute Indian Wars and eventually a battle would be fought near the grounds of where these hunters stood. Later in 1881 the station being built once again would be called Honey Lake Smiths Station and a man killed an Irishman at this location who was rebuilding it for no reason and never was arrested then later came the dam in 1911 where everything was lost to nature. Today murder and death continues to occur in this area. The question is would I become another victim of the negativity that surrounds this area and become one with all the other tragedies that seem to be part of this land? Nothing would stop me from journeying where I had to go not guns, lawlessness or even hostile hunters who made a very serious mistake. If you know who these hunters are we believe them to be from Fallon, Fernley, Silver Springs, Dayton, Stage Coach or Winnemucca areas of Nevada. After profiling them I am certain that some of them may be stationed or work at the Fallon Naval Base or are ex military. Help us find them because if we do not god help anyone else who might encounter this group may not be as lucky as I was no matter I stood my ground as hunting here is a privilege and we must make sure that incidents like these do not happen in the future we have an obligation to make sure that the wild west does not become lawless and final conclusion to my experience with them is they were either poaching or dumb hicks. Lets get these guys afterall they give every other hunter a bad name this is not the 1800s! Since we base everything off of reality please remember this video is for mature audiences only!

We are sorry some of the footage is poor one of the hunters slung mud on my cam therefore to do the interview it was skipping, not focusing and recording as sharp as it should. So this is all I was able to put together and salvage from the incident no less its very incriminating evidence gone public to help find them.
Lake Lahontan at one time was a very large sea if you were to view it 12 thousand years ago it would look like an ocean as it extended into parts of NE California, Southern Oregon along with a good sized portion of the Great Basin here in Nevada in the Endoheic Pleistocene period. I read somewhere that it extended 8,500 square miles and centralized around the Carson Sink. I have not seen the sink but we have not done much work with it however the sink is near two relevant locations one being Stillwater Nevada where a ghost town was built the other being the Cave Of The Red Haired Giants which the lake nearly came up to there den. As you during this time period giants roamed Northern Nevada when the natives came to the area they clashed.

The lake was nearly a 1000' deep with its deepest location at Pyramid Lake and even covered the Black Rock Desert during the last ice age and was considered to be the largest lakes in North America. But rather I always viewed it as a sea due to its size and the closer you get to ground zero the more sea salt you will find. Many of the peaks in NV looked like small islands surrounded by water it must had been a million dollar view! They had these creatures that dwelled in these waters as large as school buses called Iichthyosaurs which below I have posted a photo of one so you can see how this region went from massive creatures to dry land where men literally murdered one another.

Sadly this sea would begin to try up about 9,000 years ago therefore it broke apart into many lakes leaving behind only wetlands and salt in the great basin. But those lakes were a part of the Black Rock Desert, Carson and Humboldt Sink. Today what is left of Lahontan is Pyramid, Walker and Winnemucca Lake which are also appearing to dry up. Also due to receding waters their was also honey lake which was eventually was dammed off to create a 73 mile shoreline lake and reservoir which today is called Lake Lahontan. When the lake water receded it also left behing many wetlands in the area which the ancient natives utilized.

However when Honey Lake did exist and the Carson River flowed through the region many Pony Express and Overland Stations were built so that they could have accessbility to the water. When the waters begin to recde that is when the natives migrated here to build villages off of these smaller lakes such as the Paiute tribe. Also Lahontan Cuttrhroat trout became abundant in these waters which fed off of suckers and chub. The subspecies is still well alive today in parts of NV particularly the new Lake Lahontan area that was formed once the reservoir/lake fills up once again.  I have eaten cutthroat trout and I will say that its a pretty tasty fish with a little butter, lemon and some spices that is good eating my friends much better then a greasy goose on the table right? :)

During the end of the 1850's and early 1860's the white man moved into the region building out of native stone Overland, Telegraph and Pony Express Stations. Such stations were similar to an oasis in the desert for travelers who wished to make there journey over the sierras. While one station was directed at corralling horses for the riders who delivered mail the Overland stations were more like a stage stop where pioneers could rest their horses and tired bodies for the night. In turn on the Northwest back of the Carson River tree brothers from Maine decided to operate and have one built. These brothers names were James O. Williams which was the older brother who seemed to be in charge while you had two younger brothers named David and Oscar.

This station had a corral, general store, stage coach station and saloon where gambling did take place often. Honestly it was one of the finer stations in this region therefore many pioneers who traveled across Nevada sought out this station because eventually it also had a hotel. I am not sure how true this is but apparently some of the white men operating such stations were harassing some of the local natives maybe as much to say they tried shooting the Indians whenever they came close to the station. While at the same time I believe the Paiutes came to Williams Station to trade and generally the squaws/wives of the warriors were sent in to pick up goods.

It is rumored that some of the women within the tribe were sexually assaulted maybe even raped or coaxed into having sex while they were trading at the station while the other rumor is two women were held hostage while the men abused them sexually. I have no idea if this is true or not but something had to spark anger between the Paiutes and the Williams Station operators. Supposedly this pissed them off lets just be honest if your daughter was raped or wife what would you do back in those times? Lets face it when these stations were built these owners claimed the land building ranches and trying to push the Indians further away into the wilderness.

The Chief Captain Soo ordered his warriors or a small band of the best to make the eight mile trek across the desert near the camel mountain range all the way to the honey lake area. The mission at first was to kill the owner the problem was is that J.O. Williams was not even at the station when the raid occurred. He was actually camping up the river but his brothers did end up being killed. It was a travesty as the station was raided for all its good then Oscar & David Williams, John Fleming, Samuel Sullivan and Dutch Phil were killed in the attack. In addition they tried to destroy Buckman's station but the owner was not there and it was burned down in addition to Williams Station. There was allot of anger between the natives and the white man I think what it came down to is they decided enough is enough afterall they were being mistreated wouldnt you get tired of your tribe being abused think about it? Times were different back then the west was lawless and it was dangerous to live in such stations. Williams Station was burned down the natives waited till 3 maybe 4 AM then after raiding the station they burned it and more then likely based on historical facts the men did get burned alive.

Really there is three stories in all you heard two that the natives were fed up with how the white man treated them with the building of such stations. But then you have the trading post story about the Williams boys raping the squaws but like I said I really do not know. I do not know if the natives were sick of the stations claiming land that belonged to Paitues for thousands of years or if their squaws were violated maybe they felt retliation was neccesary. After the attack is when I believe they burned Buckman's Station not sure though if it happened before or after. If it happened before then these obviously were acts of anger and frustration towards the white man claiming Indian territory.  Although they did not have hostility towards all pioneers in the area the ranch of C.M. Davis was ignored and untouched nearby. After they burned the station passing the Davis ranch they came across another farm of W.H. Bloomfield who tried to be a peace keeper and told them to not commit anymore similar acts. I think Bloomfield was very aware of the fact that this sort of hostility could lead to war afterall during the time of the Civil War we also had a militia in nearby California.  After the burning paranoia ran rampant as even Virginia City erected a cannon to protect itself from any attacks which was built on top of Tunnel #4 on a hill where the Virginia & Truckee Railroad Pass through to protect the Comstock Lode!

The third myth about what really happened to the station is also a possibility as three gamblers may have came to the stations saloon to play poker with the Williams brothers. Its possible they lost or felt they were being cheated thus robbing their money back and anything of value in turn they more then likely murdered everyone burning the station to hide any evidence. Perhaps in turn the Indians were accused of doing it but nobody knows for certain. What I do know is that many of the stations I have visited had gun ports so that in raids they could point a rifle out the window and shoot at the bands attacking for additive protection. The west was wild men sometimes lost fortunes and they killed for it out of greed. Its very possible that the Paiutes did not burn Williams Station. However we know that other stations were burned and attacked sadly many owners of them died. Just across from Williams Station a few miles away is Hawes Station which I believe remained untouched and escaped a similar fate.

No matter what occurred a major Ormsby would gather a militia of men and this would eventually result in the Paiute Indian Wars or as some called it the Pyramid Lake Wars. They wanted to avenge the deaths at Williams Station and other burnings of other Overland Stations where there owners had been killed. As the war begin the Indians also organized their warriors to burn or raid these stone stations found throughout northern Nevada as they were built so that emigrants could make the journey westward.

When the militia was formed they took volunteers from Virginia City, Silver City, Gold Hill, Carson City and even Genoa. Major Ormsby gathered around 105 men who would help fight this war. I also read that Ormsby called for help in California asking help from a John C. Hays who arrived in Carson City or organize a regiment. Some soldiers were brought up from Fort Alcatraz following a Captain Joseph Stewart. The problem was that Ormsby and Hays did not wait for Captain Stewart's men which led to their demise because the need for revenge was to great.
Ormsby's men were headed northbound towards Pyramid Lake where they were ambushed and 46 were killed including Major Ormsby who was a very key figure in Carson City. While this war was ensuing the tribe split off burning 7 other stations and killing anybody in them but this would not be the last of the killing.  I believe that when the Captain Stewart arrived he stationed his men and self at Fort Churchill as the war escalated.

I felt that once Nevada reached statehood Major Ormsby would have been a governor or s major contributor to our government as even the county and local farms were named after him prior to his death. I found this place in the Carson Welsh Cemetery although is not buried here now at one time he was therefore it is a relevant site since this is one of the oldest cemeteries in the stte of Nevada.

The Station was rebuilt again this time they called it either Big Bend or The Honey Lake Station taken over mainly by the Ravenscroft family along with two ranchers. They also had in 1863 a retail dealer in liquor and he was also a hotel keeper. This became a major stage station a few years after the attack but you see the wars would not be over as Fort Churchill would grow and house a few hundred soldiers just miles away from the Honey Lake Williams Station. Bands of soldiers who had cannons, guns and a very well trained army kept the Indians at bay from the  further burning of anymore stations. Little battles did occur believe it or not a battle would ensue at Williams Station where men on both sides died. Just make sure you click on the Forts link so that you can read and in depth history also see how the fort looks today.

Hays did play a role in the war as he marched from Carson City to Williams Station with his men where he encountered 150 Paiute warriors surrounding the station and as I said a battle did ensue. Rumor has it two soldiers and six Paiutes were killed. However from doing some research I have heard that number is that in fact many men on both sides have perished thus death was not uncommon at this location therefore its possible that the ghosts of these soldiers and warriors may haunt the honey lake area.  When the battle was won at Williams Station the soldiers from the fort including some of Captain Stewart's men pushed the Paiutes back to Pyramid Lake and they defeated them as the war was over. What it came down to is that the Army had guns, cannons and they really out numbered the Paiutes.

Technically where we journey I take you as close as I can to the station not that much is left afterall when the dam was built and the lake flooded this basin it really did not leave much left of the station as of today. You might see a few volcanic rocks as they were the material used in the construction of such stations, fence post, cut down trees etc etc. I heard there is a foundation somewhere on the hill where honey lake is today I did not find it as my historical project was cut short by five hostile hunters who shot at me then try to imprison me from leaving the area so I managed to risk my life to get our viewers what I could get of the station and the general site. When the fort was built it was the only and the largest military base in Nevada at the time perhaps the only one of its kind which eventually led to many other bases for example Area 51 which I been too.

The Williams Station area is a tragic place and let me explain first you had the murder in 1860 of the men who operated it being burned alive. Then later during the Paiute Wars some milita men were killed in a battle near the station. Then in 1881 a WM. Gephard shot and killed an Irishman out of racial profiling who was helping build what would be called the Honey Lake Smiths Station. Strangely Gephard never was arrested or went to jail for his crimes. It would appear the station was built at least three times I cannot say it was built at the same location therefore when I hiked out on the dry lake beds I went to a general area to gather EVP's, Video and Photography. I feel that this is cursed ground think about how awful the deaths that occurred here.  You have to wonder if the massacre in 1860 had some ripple effect since after the incident death after death has occurred. One must wonder if the natives being driven off these lands somehow put a curse on them towards the white man. One may never know but it some a theory to consider!

Also deaths never seems to stop occurring here either I have read countless stories about murders, drowning's, strange deaths and bodies dumped within the lake and state park.  Its a historic place but its also a place where evils have been committed and it still goes on as I encountered five hunters who threatened and assaulted me. We have audio recordings and video footage of this because its either one of two things these individuals are just brainless hicks or their are unseen negative energies which might have an effect on individuals who might not be aware of this nor the stations dark  history the same area the hunters were hiking at so again cursed ground be careful here!

Also understand that some of the individuals who visit this state park are shooting guns randomly putting hikers as well as picnickers at risk. During my journey at Lahontan woman came up missing and was possibly murdered here therefore I posted the article since she went missing in early December around the same time I was hiking here at first though I thought maybe these hunters were involved but this was not the case.  I did post missing information through social media in hopes to find the girl for a friend who has another friend who knew her so it is very sad. When I found out that three individuals in the region dumped her body in Lahontan I was devastated especially when the article said Lake Lahontan. You always wish you could do something more but Lahontan its turning into a lawless region with 73 miles of shoreline and not enough law enforcement people are using the area to commit crimes like the murder of Alea Clark which I posted a copy of the article below for our viewers to read.

I also feel that the state park and rangers need to do something to put up a plaque or marker where the station resides to help educate the public a little further that way we can try to prevent such another incident from occurring with hunters who might be hunting around these ruins. They can perhaps make it off limits to the hunters in the future so that when historical people like myself come across the station we can feel safer.

I wanted to talk a bit about Mark Twains or as some know him as Samuel Clemens who visited this very Overland Station! I am sure you will it very intriguing as these are his words so continue on. I guess he was riding via stagecoach for a couple days on the way to Ragtown and eventually Unionville which was a 100 if not more miles of a trek through the Nevadan wilderness. When he arrived he referred to it as "Smiths Honey Lake Smith's Station" so we have to assume that it was rebuilt in the early 1860's and even after the raid it still was not safe as the burning of such stations continued. As you know Twain lived in some of the ghost towns we have adventured at and yes he stayed at the station. He recalled seeing a two story log cabin on a small hill in a vast basin which today is where the reservoir is. He remembers it being crowded as when the sun came out over 20 hay wagons arrived and without any room they camped outside. He said the winds were very high here I believe winter here in the 1800's was much more severe and this area did get its fair share of snow even though its high desert. Near the house was corrals or stables built with sun dried bricks and another building probably the saloon maybe the hotel. While maybe it could have been the small trading post or general store its hard to say but this station was well furnished and a bit more classy then other ones found along the overland route. Twain felt the place was to crowded but then again as an author this gave him something to write and talk about.

I believe the station was operated till about 1911 by a James O. Sullivan along the Carson River. I read that this was called station 150 as station 149 is in the Carson Sink while station 151 is in hooten wells. For example when the Pony Express Routes were formed and stations were built every 35 miles one was built. It spread throughout northern Nevada near every ghost town and so today less then half of these stations exist. When the Lahontan Reservoir was formed in 1911 it eradicated the station on the knoll of course at the time it probably was just a bunch of crumbling rocks and piles of wood thus the station today is spread all over the muddy bottom today. In 1992 drought hit the region hard and I guess the ruins were visible. In December 2015 once again the knoll the station sat on was exposed due to three mild winters the river is running very low therefore the reservoir or basin was bone dry with a few pools of water and the river trickling through it just a few feet wide its very strange. But it could be another century before the ruins or site gets exposed not that much remains but what I have found on my journey which is not much due to some hostile hunters I came across. But I did what I could do and risked my life doing it for our viewers so that high schools can learn a very relevant part of American History and even colleges will be able to use this knowledge to learn about one of the only wars fought out west. I understand that the natives and white men fought here out west but wars battles, militias marching, burning, murder, raids, ambushes and a station that kept bouncing back is truly strange.

I have seen photos other ghost town hunters have taken and where the station stood was a sand bar or small knoll where nothing remained. I believe I hiked over the knoll and see what looked like a wall of stones while I found a few fence post since the Overland Station need to raise cattle or livestock for food while having an area where pioneers could bunk up there horses at for the night. It was stations like these that made the wild west it was dangerous being a caretaker of such a location. Sometimes outlaws would rob these places, Indians would raid you then kill you after they took your horses or guns and then you had the wilderness which was deadly. You would have extremely hot summers, rattle snakes, drought and you were so secluded that you had to count on other stations and wagons to provide you with supplies which sometimes were attacked. Life was not fun operating such a station it was a rugged life and many young men died trying.

In 1911 when the dam was created the area was turned into a state park for picnickers, hikers, hunters and even people who metal detect on its sandy beaches. Personally things look bad below the dam are hundreds of tires and trash that is not being cleaned up. I have seen warnings not to eat the fish from here due to high mercury content. Their are lawless individuals who come out here to deal drugs as Silver Springs has a huge meth and crack problem. Yes I read the paper and watch the news its the truth. People are out here shooting guns off and plants are growing on the lake bed which at one time was part of an ancient sea its sad seeing it vanish before my eyes. Murders and drowning's are very common here as the reservoir in the Spring does fill up just with each passing year less and less. The Carson River then flows through it the same way it did in the 1800's just not as fierce as the station was built on a knoll next to the river so the horses and those staying here had a water source. Allot of times the pioneers would hunt for their food such as geese and duck so yes I am okay with someone hunting here because they did it in the 1800's. I also believe in respecting one another outdoors. Some folks are here for remnants of Williams Station others to honor the deceased Paiutes from the local tribe at Pyramid Lake and others might be hiking.

Also Lake Lahontan and the dam were built to help irrigate the ranches and farms in Stillwater Nevada. While water was abundant due to the Carson River and many wetlands the Native Paiute did not have water rights. They were put on reservations with 60 acre lots however ranchers locally complained because they wanted more water and land. Thus the government told the natives on the reservation they could give up there land for 10 acre lots and get water from Lahontan or they could keep the 60 acre lot being banned from water rights. The land was no good without water you could not grave cattle, horses or even having drinking water therefore the natives were forced not once but twice off their land. You can imagine that this had caused hostiltities for many years especially in the 1800's when ranchers during that time period could not rely on the dam because it had not been built left thus they merely diverted water from the Carson River and the wetlands in the region onto their farms. Without the founding of Stillwater some speculate that Lake Lahontan would have never came to be thus Williams Station would nave never went underwater to begin with.

The real question left is why is this grassy knoll a place of tragedy over 150 years of it? Could the land be cursed? Haunted? Negative? A place perhaps that so many evil deeds have been done by men filled with greed may have tainted the land with their very own blood. Willl that ever change is truly the question we should ask! This is a very strange place ranging from murders, horrible deaths, deadly accidents and even a battle. It is becoming lawless and even the rangers are having difficulty covering the 73 miles of shoreline. It is to bad that those who explore, journey, hunt and want to preserve history could not help one another. That is the way it should be perhaps if things played out differently this land would not be tainted by the blood of innocent lives lost forever. One must also wonder did the Paiutes start this war or were they framed so that a war would ensue to clear out the natives in the region to pave the way for towns like Fallon, Silver Springs, Dayton, Fernley, Carson City our state capitol and many other cities that today are bustling? If you close your eyes and take a step back into the past nobody won this war. People died over land while some fought for a justified reason and we may never know if the Paiutes burned Williams Station or this was a government conspiracy to expand into Utah Territory so that we could eventually claim Nevada as an American state during the Civil War! We may never have that answer but one thing is certain the ghosts of the past haunt the dry lake beds and these dark waters still awaiting answers and lives cut short over war, greed, murder, loss, pain, justice and revenge. Will Williams Station find peace or will death continue to consume what is left of this ancient sea basin? Perhaps it is not the land that is evil but maybe humans are the problem afterall we cannot blame the station or the lake we can only blame those responsible for their own actions. If the Williams brothers did kidnap and rape two innocent squaws I agree they deserve to hang for that crime I agree but war ensured one that should not have happened and one that will be remembered as one of the only but most major wars between Native Americans and the white settlers who volunteered to fight along with the Army to over power a tribe that today has been forced to remain in Pyramid Lake and the Black Rock desert areas we had no interest in due to the harshness of the desert. Brothers died the longterm effects of the war are still felt today!

Pyramid Lake War

The Pyramid Lake War of 1860 was the single greatest confrontation between American Indians and whites in Nevada's history. It was caused by the onrush of thousands of settlers to the Washoe country, lured by reports of valuable silver and gold deposits on the Comstock, combined with the lack of any effective organized government in the area. By the spring of 1860, the often unruly influx of Euro-Americans approximately equaled the Northern Paiute population in the area, impinging on their scarce resources and food supply. Incidents between the whites and Native Americans in the nearby Honey Lake area heightened tensions.

Consequently, in May 1860, a large band of Paiute Indians, along with allied Bannocks and Shoshones, met near Pyramid Lake for the annual fish run and to discuss options. The great majority of the leaders advocated war without, however, suggesting any specific course of action. Only Numanga of the Pyramid band foresaw the futility of the effort, advising against war, declaring that if there were a confrontation, "They will come like the sand in a whirlwind and drive you from your homes. You will be forced among the barren rocks of the north, where your ponies will die; where you will see the women and old men starve, and listen to the cries of your children for food."

Meanwhile, events outpaced the debate. Two brothers at Williams Station, a stage and grog stop on the Carson River, had kidnapped two American Indian sisters of about twelve years of age, molested and then hidden them. When members of their tribe discovered this, an enraged group of warriors, including the girls' father, rescued them, while in the process killing two of the Williams brothers, along with three other whites, and burning the station. When the news reached the tribal enclave at Pyramid Lake it sealed the case for war, upon which Numanga reportedly and regretfully said, "There is no longer any use for counsel; we must prepare for war."

When news of the carnage at Williams Station reached the Comstock settlements, it was immediately determined that the Indians had to be taught a lesson. The settlers perceived the non-aggressive Paiutes as mere "digger," and the prevailing mood was that the punishment would be easily administered. The universal feeling was that the venture would be a joy ride to victory over a passive enemy. Four detachments of men, totaling 105, were organized from Virginia City, Silver City, Carson City, and Genoa. Since no effective government existed in the area, this was very much a vigilante, squatter effort. Perhaps inevitably, there was no recognized, uniform command of the group, although Major William Ormsby attempted to fill that function.

It hardly turned out that way. On May 12, 1860, Numanga's army lured the motley force into a trap on the banks of the Truckee River southeast of Pyramid Lake. An estimated seventy of the white combatants died, but were it not for the advancing darkness which gave cover to the fleeing troops, probably everyone would have been killed. Major Ormsby himself was slain. This engagement resulted in the loss of more Euro-American lives than had been the case for any Native American-white confrontation for the previous sixty-nine years. It was a stunning surprise.

The survivors skedaddled as rapidly as possible back to the settlements, where panic now prevailed. A makeshift, homemade wooden cannon was improvised in Gold Hill which, in the only time it was used, blew up on itself. In Virginia City, an unfinished stone hotel became an impromptu fort. The mines completely shut down and many settlers fled the area. Since typically the settlers belittled the Northern Paiutes as fighters, and perhaps remembering the recent notorious Mountain Meadows Massacre, many ascribed the disaster to the hidden hand of Mormonism—the general feeling, as reported in a letter by Alf Doten, was that the Paiutes should be utterly exterminated and "the old arch traitor Brigham Young hanged."

A telegraph to California resulted in the arrival of 544 volunteer soldiers from California and the Washoe Country under the capable leadership of Colonel John Coffee Hays. They were joined by 207 regulars of the United States army, led by Captain Joseph Stewart. This was probably a superior force to what the Native Americans could muster. On June 2, 1860, the Paiute and white forces met in a second battle, fought near where the previous one had occurred. For safety's sake, American Indian women and children had been hustled off to the Black Rock Desert. After three hours of fierce fighting, the battle seemed a draw. Only three whites were killed, and the number of Native American losses was unknown, but probably light. Although the battle had been closely fought, the Paiute forces slipped away that night, leaving the strategic victory in the hands of the whites.

Thus the Comstock area was put solidly under Euro-American control, and never again would Native American forces be able to muster any effective resistance to white population incursions.

The Station resides up on a sand bar which use to be a grassy knoll nothing remains but if you study the knoll from above which I do not have photos of you can see an outline of where the station use to reside. Anything else around it might be considered a part of the station since it had other buildings nearby, fence post and debris from it may have been scattered when the dam was flooded. The mark is just an approximate area although based on other peoples photos I found its fairly close to where the tree stumps are in abundance surrounding the knoll itself where I came across the hunters or at least within a 100' to 120' of them.

Its amazing how you can see on this map old Ragtown which today is a ghost town that nothing really remains. You can also see Gold Hill and Virginia City along with Sugar Loaf Mtn. which we climbed to the top and investigated its mill. You can see Uniontown which is where Mark Twain lived for awhile and we have to assume on his way to Virginia City he probably stated at the Honey Lake Smiths Station which previously was named Williams Station prior to its burning. You can also see Carson City on the map and the old Immigrant road and this map would be something people in the 1800's would go off of when traversing this region of Nevada. As you can see on the map they call it Honey Lake Smiths then below it put the Williams Old Station. While others named it after Big Bed because the river takes a very sharp turn near where the station was located.

Inquiry into teen's death at Lake Lahontan continues
1:47 AM, Jul. 13, 2011  |
By Betty Aleck and Ben Miller
SILVER SPRINGS--Lyon County Sheriff's Office investigators are continuing their inquiry into the death of a Sun Valley teenager who was found by his uncle intoxicated and unconscious on Beach 5 at Lake Lahontan.

Kyle Johnston, 14, died last Tuesday morning, July 5, at Renown Regional Medical Center.

"The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation and we're trying to find out where the alcohol came from," said LCSO Capt. Albert Torres, who added that when medics arrived at the scene Johnston had a blood alcohol level of 0.40, which is five times the legal limit for adult intoxication in Nevada (0.08).

The teen went into cardiac arrest, but was later revived by law enforcement and then transported by CareFlight to Renown, where he was placed on life support, Torres said.

The LCSO captain added the LCSO believes that Johnston died of alcohol poisoning, but authorities are waiting for toxicology tests from the Washoe County Medical Examiners office to verify that assumption.

"We've made initial contact with people at the campsite and have gone back several times to talk to people who were camping up and down that beach," said Torres.

Deputy Martin Dues reported the teen was seen going from campsite to campsite where parties were taking place.

A friend of Johnston's said doctors at Renown believe the Sparks Middle School student was given Everclear at a bonfire at Lake Lahontan.

Johnston, who was with his uncle at the lake, went to a campsite about three sites away from his own on July 2, said Jorge Torres, 14.

The uncle didn't know that Johnston had left the site, Jorge Torres said. The rest of Johnston's family had left the lake, but Johnston asked to say behind with his uncle, Jorge Torres told the Reno Gazette Journal.

Everclear can be either 75.5 percent or 95 percent alcohol, according to the website of Luxco, the company that manufactures the drink.

Jorge Torres said he met Johnston at Sparks Middle School in October of last year. He described Johnston as a loyal and funny friend who enjoyed playing Hacky Sack during recess.

"He was a good friend," he said. "He would be there for you if you needed any help."

Friends of Johnston's held a memorial at a park in Sun Valley, Jorge Torres said.

State Park Rangers and the LCSO issued a number of citations to teens on charges of minor in possession of an alcoholic beverage during the holiday weekend. Additionally, state park staff turned away about a dozen teens who tried to enter the park without an adult or legal guardian after the curfew hour of 9 p.m.

Curbing underage drinking has been a mission of the Healthy Communities Coalition (HCC) of Lyon and Storey Counties for years, and through their efforts, Lahontan State Park and the LCSO have been the recipients of grant funds to address underage drinking specifically at the lake.

HCC executive director Kristy McGill reported underage drinking at Lake Lahontan has dropped in the last three years. The Healthy Community Coalition has obtained grants through Enforcing Underage Age Drinking Laws to provide additional manpower to provide extra patrol during holidays at the reservoir.

Park staff also handed out 5,000 Camp Watch magnets during Memorial Day and the Fourth of July holidays that encouraged campers to report a party to the LCSO dispatch office.

The nonprofit organization purchased signs that have been placed at Lake Lahontan to remind visitors of state laws concerning underage drinking.

The HCC also distributes phone numbers of the Lahontan State Park office and the LCSO to all Lyon County schools, and to the University of Nevada, Reno, asking students to report teen parties on a tip line, and McGill noted, "Last year, rangers stopped some parties."

McGill added that traditionally, Lake Lahontan has been known as a party designation, but with the drop in minor in possession citations being issued, she is hoping that reputation will change to make the reservoir a "family place."

Individuals with information about this incident are urged to call Deputy Dues at 775-577-5023.

LCSO Captain Albert Torres emphasized the LCSO did not release the name of the Sun Valley teenager, and news outlets had obtained his name independently.

A recent autopsy confirmed that a 6 year old boy (Apollo Fuller) died as a result of a drowning incident in Lake Lahontan, Nevada. The autopsy results showed no signs of foul play, crime or trauma that would indicate causes of death other than the drowning. Apollo was reported missing and then there was a search for him. The boy apparently had disappeared while using or playing on a water trampoline. News report did not detail what safety precautions were in place at the lake for small children like Apollo. There were also sparse details about the size, type, make, and set up of the water trampoline. It is quite a tragedy for the family of Apollo Fuller and his community. Kidnap Suspect Found Dead, Daughters Injured
Updated: Wed 10:11 PM, Jun 23, 2004

By: Associated Press

A man authorities believe shot his wife, beat another woman and took his three teenage daughters hostage early Wednesday was found shot dead hours later at Lake Lahontan.

Walter Nelson Ball Jr., 43, was found at the lake 30 miles east of Carson City soon after an Amber Alert was issued for the missing girls, ages 13, 16 and 19, Lyon County Sheriff’s Capt. Allen Veil said.

Seeing their only chance for survival, one of the three girls fatally shot her sleeping father in the head with the gun he had used to abduct them from their Silver Springs home, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said.

Walter Nelson Ball Jr., 43, who was facing sexual assault charges and had been released on $100,000 bail a week earlier, was found dead in his Jeep Cherokee in a remote area of Lahontan State Park.

Veil said deputies at the scene reported the girls were injured, but the extent or nature of those injuries were not immediately known.

The incident began around 4 a.m. when Ball reportedly went to the family home and shot his wife in the face, Veil said. Another woman believed to be the girls’ grandmother was severely beaten, he said.

The older woman was taken to Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City and was listed in stable condition, the sheriff’s office said.

The wife was flown to Washoe Medical Center in Reno and was in intensive care.

Sheriff’s officials said Ball had recently been arrested for suspicion of sexually assaulting one his daughters and was out on bail.
Third person arrested in connection with murder of Alea Clark

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 02/05/2015 - 8:10pm

UPDATE: A third person has been charged with open murder in the death of Alea Clark, Lyon County authorities said Friday. Patricia Baker, 40, of Silver Springs, has now also been charged with open murder, conspiracy to murder and destroying evidence.

UPDATE: Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil said the body, presumed to be that of Alea Clark, was found Tuesday in the dry lake bed portion of Lake Lahontan State Park. He would not discuss the condition of the body but it is believed to be Clark. A forensic lab has been called. The family of Clark was contacted when the body was discovered, he said.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Nevada Division of Investigation, arrested Ryan Coddington, 36, of Silver Springs and Toni Hardin, 31, of Dayton, on suspicion of open murder in connection with the disappearance of Alea Clark who was reported missing by family members on January 9.

On Feb. 3, human remains were recovered from the Lake Lahontan State Park, which are believed to be that of Alea. The murder investigation continues into more possible accomplices.

Coddington and Hardin will be booked into the Lyon County Jail on open murder, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and other narcotic related offenses. Because of the open murder charge, no bail has been set, said McNeil.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office offers thoughts and prayers continue to be with Alea’s family and friends, according to a Lyon County news release.

Clark was last seen in the Dayton area on Jan. 6, 2015.
Researcher: Sand holes can be deadly

CARSON CITY - The weekend death of a vacationer at Lahontan State Park should serve as a sad warning to others who would consider digging in the sand, an expert said Thursday.Dr.

Bradley Maron, a researcher with Harvard Medical School in Massachusetts and author of a 2001 paper on dry-sand hole collapses, said Cody Wright's death Saturday is more common than most people realize.Wright, 17, of Quincy, Calif., died Saturday evening from injuries he sustained when a cave he was digging along the reservoir's shoreline collapsed on him.

The autopsy ruled Wright's cause of death as asphyxia, said Coroner Vernon O. McCarty."Most people believe this is an obscure kind of, once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon. But the reality is quite different. We have documented between 30 and 35 cases between 1997 and 2006 - the majority of which resulted in death," Maron said. His research shows that this type of accident is not reserved for young children. He said the youngest victim he's identified thus far was 5 years old, the oldest was 21.

The distance from the shoreline is not a factor in collapses, nor is the hole size or geographical location. The only common thread among all the incidences was the sand. He said this was the first he'd heard of someone in Nevada dying from a recreational hole collapse."I think for a long time - and rightfully so - the attention in the summer months has been focused on water safety and drowning. However, I think there is also a sense of false security on the beach, parents at that time are more relaxed," he said.Maron said digging holes seems like a harmless pastime."You see quarterly or seasonal magazines with pictures of children digging holes in the sand on their covers," he said. "I think it's dangerous and I think people aren't aware."

According to a report on the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine Web site, the calculated weight of 12 feet of wet sand distributed over the surface area of a 100-pound child's body is greater than 3 tons.Maron said victims die from either aspiration of the sand into their lungs, or compression of their chests so they are unable to take in air. He said irreversible brain damage can occur within three to five minutes of oxygen deprivation.

Education is key, he said, in keeping people safe."If you dig holes they should be knee deep or less. I think the message here is that you are taking a risk when you dig a hole. You might think you have an ability to get out of one if it collapses, but the reality of it is you won't," he said.

Some victims of hole collapses- An 18-year-old man was critically injured on Tasmania's east coast near Binalong Bay in January when he was buried under sand in a hole he'd been digging with his family.- 3-year-old Abbie Livingstone-Nurse suffocated in the sand at a beach near Cornwall, England in August 2005. Her brother Joe, 5, was pulled free from the 5-foot hole they had dug.- Daniel Jones, 21, died on a North Carolina beach in 2000 when an 8-foot hole he had dug caved in as he sat inside it on a beach chair. It took rescuers an hour to recover his body.- Ivan Smith, 13, died in August 2000 in Massachusetts after a 4-foot hole he created with four other children collapsed on him when he jumped inside.
Officials: Fallon-area body is missing mom
Steve Timko RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL

DNA evidence confirmed that a body found last week outside Fallon are the remains of Bertha Anguiano, a Carson City mother missing since Nov. 10, the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office said today.

Churchill county and Carson City authorities met Wednesday and agreed that Carson City will handle any criminal charges related to Anguiano’s death, Churchill Sheriff Richard Ingram said in a statement.

The body was found in the brush about 4 miles from U.S. 50 off a dirt road that begins as Trento Lane. On Sept. 15, a dog brought home part of Anguiano’s arm and hand and the homeowner contacted the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, which found the remains the next morning.

The DNA from the bone recovered by the dog and teeth on the body were compared to DNA belonging to Anguiano and the analysis placed the certainty of a match at 99.98 percent, the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Investigators will need further examination of the remains to determine the cause of death, the sheriff’s office reported.

Investigators believe Anguiano was having an affair with Israel Tellez, who was staying at the Oxbow Motel in Fallon the day she disappeared. Tellez, currently serving time in a Utah prison for pulling a gun on a Utah sheriff’s sergeant taking him into custody on Nov. 21, is a suspect in Anguiano’s disappearance but has not been charged.

Tellez, also known as Juan Carlos Tellez, had left mud in the Fallon motel room where he had been staying, prompting investigators to focus their search for Anguiano’s body around the water at Lahontan State Park between Carson City and Fallon.

Anguiano was last seen Nov. 10 after she dropped a son off at a Carson elementary school.

Later that day, Anguiano’s 3-year-old son was found bloodied and clutching a $1 bill at a Smith’s supermarket in Dayton, 15 miles from the school.

The 3-year-old boy told authorities that a man named Juan hit his mother in the head with a shovel and put her in the back of a truck.

Rest in peace, Bertha.
Prayers for this little one, who apparently witnessed his mother's murder, and prayers for justice.
With love and hope, Lanie
