Dutch Flat California
 
Our first stop would be at the community center which boast an old caboose and even a piece of hydraulic mining equipment. I believe the community center use to be the court house maybe even a school but many of the old buildings have been re purposed.
 
Downtown was quaint its the type of place where the locals wave at you and dogs come up to you to be patted on the head. We would go past the community center where we parked near the old lodges one of them being Masonic dating back to the 1850's. We met a lady who owns the town dog like she said he should be mayor he greets everybody and sits right downtown.
 
Downtown has a bit of a wild western feeling with its old shops and wood buildings. There was an old hotel its rumored to be haunted the owner was making breakfast so we ended up not investigating it like we had planned. One of the locals told me that sometimes the Inn owner will let people in but when she is not busy and it was still morning so we just decided to walk old downtown so I could do a documentary on this old mining town.
 
Surrounding downtown is allot of old wood historical homes some quaint others much larger who probably belonged to Masonic lodge members and big tycoons who mined the area. You even see one of the last remnants of Chinatown and a few stone foundations up on the hillsides. Many of the old wood homes at one time were businesses or general stores now residents.
 
One of the shops a lady with a couple dogs came out to talk with us. She was a really friendly local took out her BW scrap book to show us old news articles and photos of the town. She told us about the history of some of the sites and which locations are haunted. That is the one thing I enjoy about the work we do here at PGS is getting to meet new friendly faces and to sit down have a friendly chat about anything or everything.
 
It was helpful to have the shop owners incite on the town she gave me historical information I never knew. I record all my investigations now so ill have to go back listen to some of her tales then try to integrate that into our website because this is a really great gold rush town and one of the earlier ones that began so lots of history.
 
We would head down the hilly street visiting the old bakery and store. This was known as the Justus Henry Runckel Bakery and Home which today current residents live in. However a sign still resides on the outside like many of the properties found in Dutch Flat to help educate others on the towns history.
 
We would head to a place called The Hearse House which actually has a fire wagon and old hearse wagon inside. So do you see the connection this wagon had brought the coffins up to the hill that overlooks the town site for burial? Everything we do here at PGS has some sort of connection that is how we conduct our work so that you get our case files in thorough detail and get to see how one thing may have led to the next. We could not get into the carriage house but we did take photos through the windows and they came out really awesome!
 
Downtown their was also a cobble stone house and this little red house not sure what they were used for in the 1800's. Their were also allot of roses and other flowers blooming along the streets of downtown. I took photos because I know how much you guys love the work I do with nature because we must including the living along with the dead in every investigation we do regardless!
 
One of our last stops after walking around the old hotel was the general store which has the old safe inside and a historical plaque. I guess the building was used prior to a general store for other things in the middle of the 1800's. Their was an old Indian wood carved statue inside along with a wood plaque that talked about how the building was erected using nearby sandstone. The employees gave me some incite on the ghost that haunt the store and hotel across the street really great people to talk with which definitely will warrant a second trip because its a great place to go if your into old history and preserved towns. They also told me at night allot of strange things happen when the down screeches to a halt.
 
Near this old craft shop was a plaque which commemorates the entire town and near that an old fire bell. I can see why this town needed one I mean fires did occur one of them destroyed all of old China Town like I said earlier in my report the Chinese were often mistreated here by the Germans. However do not get me wrong I am partially German so from a historical aspect this is a great place but for the Chinese 150 years ago it just was not.
 
We were going to stop at the museum but it was closed so instead we went to the old trading post and post office. Just a small little white wood building downtown but no less it was very historic considering how many years it has remained opened the entire town is perhaps one giant museum in itself.
 
We did a little hiking beyond downtown to since Urban Exploration is something we combine with our work we found this massive old stone building, perhaps an old stable and even a couple old water tanks used back in the mining days. Their is allot to see just beyond the tree line downtown as some of the historic sites do reside in the woods so we had a ton of fun just looking around taking pictures and EVP's.
 
When we left the town I tried to take us into the woods to find this lake which also is historic I eventually did not find it but would find another body of water nearby where I could pull off to take photos. It would appear more of the residents today all own cabins in the woods its very secluded lots of nature just residing around a few thousand feet as you go up into the high sierras.
 
It was a splendid time the boys sat with dogs we got to see most of the town and spent a good half of our day in Dutch Flat talking to locals. Id like to go back sometime and see more out here its an entirely new region we never worked with before and now I live much closer to it so that warrants another visit. The people who live here are friendly I really enjoy the work we do because it makes it so worthwhile when you can meet others who share a slice of their own history in connection with such a great place so I give it a 10!
 
Our next destination would be more trying as we would take on the old Donner Lake Railroad Tunnels deeper up into the high sierras where their is snow, cliffs and remoteness.

This could be a fluke hell it might not be nothing at all but if I were to speculate I would say there is a ghostly face peering out the window at us. Sue took the photo we have the original enlargement which is 5 times larger then the resized picture which allowed me to study the window to see if anything was looking back at us. The detail in this anomaly or face cannot just be coincidence believe it or not this picture was taken at the old hotel which dates back to 1852 and according to the locals is haunted by numerous ghosts. Could this have been one of them?
