This old wagon road switchbacks all the way up into the ghost town of Michigan Bluff. There are parts of the road with huge drop-offs but the views and seclusion are amazing. There are a few ways to enter into the town this however is the back road on in and we wouldn't have it any other way!
This pet cemetery resides just outside of town. Many of the markers are missing while others are just a stone or two to mark where the locals buried their pets. There is a horses grave or was at one time in the area as well who was given the name of "Old Joe" who was tragically murdered only to be honored by the residents a century ago.

At one time this town boasted 3000 residents today very little remains with the exception of the local cemetery and a few historic homes. There are residents that live here but not many. Upon entering the town I was greeted by this beautiful white horse which I spent more time with then actually investigating the paranormal lol. The Western Trail cuts through town which meanders all the way to Last Chance and Deadwood. At one time this town was plagued by tragedy as fire burned it down in the 1850s followed by a massive landslide that brought down the entire original town site into the abyss of the Great Foresthill Divide a canyon formed by the American River. Gold was mined in this town as tunnels ran underground bringing in profits in the 1800s of 100k per month! One of the most amazing structures which is no longer standing was the Phoenix Hotel sadly things have quieted down but this was a true place during the Gold Rush which symbolized the wild west in the high sierras!
This cemetery perhaps is Michigan Bluffs greatest historical sites as it serves as a reminder of the Masons which built and mined this town at one time. The cemetery sits up on a hill its rather woodsy here and it appears I also made a new friend while filming this video. This burial ground was erected in the 1850s some of the interments met tragic ends. There is an old story passed around about one of the guest here whose coffin went over a cliff in the Foresthill Divide. It was later retrieved and buried within this cemetery. It truly is an amazing place!
