The Alton National Cemetery may just be one of the most beautifully historic burial grounds in the entire Midwest. But its also rumored to be one of the most haunted as well. We had just left the McPike Mansion down the road and were moving on to take a stroll here which produced some really great content for our viewers. What I can tell you is your going to get a bit of everything on a journey that took years in the making!

Rumor has it the first burial that took place was 1812 making this burial ground the third oldest in the state. The cemetery has an extension civil war section while most of the interments are folks who lived in many of the old mansions seen today still standing in Alton. Tales of a lady in black and that of an abolitionist are said to haunt this national cemetery among many other strange stories.

I am going to give our viewers the grand tour enjoy it for what it is because this is a really beautiful place full of nature, history, plaques and even ghosts. But rather then the super serious type of videos I put on some historical locations this one has a bit of a humorous spin and you wont catch it all unless you view the entire reel so we hope you enjoy this one of a kind classic Lord Rick Cemetery exploration.

Their is also footage of driving in Alton and some good EMF activity on film. Their is so much to see here so let me give you a Birdseye view of a cemetery that was formed due to tragedies like the smallpox outbreak and Civil War which lead to its growth. There really is no place like this cemetery in the country so its worth a gander. You could spend hours exploring this place and still not see it all!

I did make one mistake so I am correcting it now that the Confederate Prison was not on the cemetery grounds although it was not far down the road at the time. When Smallpox hit the prison it killed over 1,500 Confederate soldiers in the area while many of the Union Soldiers who were recovering in local hospitals. While their may be many historical cemeteries and sites surrounding this national cemetery Alton is truly the best of them all in regards to its historical diversity. Towards the end of the video is a gallery with some music definitely a nice edition others can appreciate for years to come!
