Alton National Historic Cemetery

I was so excited to drive to this Cemetery though old Alton its one of the most haunted cities in Illinois even the Midwest. But the real jewel is the national cemetery which holds quite a bit of civil war history and some spooky stories. I did not expect to visit the cemetery in hopes of seeing ghosts but I did want to be part of the history and see it firsthand. I always investigate day or night my locations other times I rather explore them. In this case I wanted to do a little of everything during my hike around this location.
 
We had just left the McPike Mansion I was still in awe over it but as I drove past the haunting historic homes of Alton my adhd sort of took over and pretty soon I was on a new quest. While the cemetery is very large their is just no way to see it all but when I drove past the stone wall I was excited that soon id be inside the gates checking out many of Alton's historic figures.
 
I was amazed at how green, lush and the amount of nature that can be found here. Everything from flowers growing to praying mantis's climbing tombstones. Its full of life so its not just a place for the dearly departed. Its very much a park like setting. When I arrived at the entrance I ran into a cat that looked just like the one at the McPike Mansion. Somehow I think that they are related at first though I thought it was the same cat.
 
That cat stayed with us nearly the entire time while exploring the gravesites. Their was even a vulture at the Lovejoy Monument never a good sign to see honestly. But again this place harbors lots of bird and wildlife which makes it a nice place to soak in nature. Their is a few parts to the cemetery where one can see the river also. The cemetery has quite a few plaques too one on Lincoln, another on Lovejoy who once was an abolished slave who ran a newspaper and even the site of a ghostly little girls grave I visited.
 
We actually found one of the oldest graves here believe it or not it was random trust me. Another site had a cannon attached to a monument.These are just some of the sites I would see while hiking around. Tammy's dad came along and he seemed to enjoy it to. I told him id take him to the war section of the cemetery which is down this hill we were standing on. The civil war section is very well organized dozens of white crosses that you could see in the distance.
 
I ended up taking some EMF readings near the Love Joy Grave but also near the Haskell/Hayner site as well both of which are pretty well known haunted sites. So maybe their is some truth so it hard to tell. While I may have been searching for the strange you could not help notice how much nature was around even for an October day. It was very hot and humid it was as if Fall did not even exist up here at the time even though houses around me had your typical autumn decor.
 
Near the Watson grave I heard some whistling sounded very mild so not easy to hear but what I did hear is something carrying a tune. I mean honestly their was hardly anyone up here maybe one lady who had to go around me and a lonely cat who befriended us.
 
I stayed a couple hours and we had to move on so the local Piasa Cave site which harbors a legend of a giant bird the natives were familiar with. While this cemetery has the potential of being haunted I think its real jewel is the history if you take the time to read some of the epitaphs and plaques. The civil war section is not to shabby either as I been to other cemeteries where graves are merely crumbling but while many graves are damaged most are in good shape considering their age. I am sure this is a super spooky place at night no doubt there!

A little ectoplasm moving around a gravestone across the top of the grass very strange daytime capture and rare! I cant explain the anomaly other then some kind of whispy energy on the move.
This cat stayed with me the entire time around most of the cemetery as I walked around. A very similar looking cat was spotted up at the McPike Mansion a couple miles away. Its hard to know if it has the same bloodlines but I just thought it was a bit strange. Nothing wrong with making a few furry friends along the way.

High EMF Gauss readings were captured at two of the most haunted sites. First one is the Haskell/Hayner Monument. The second is the Lovejoy Monument. I am not the first to capture this kind of thing here or near these sites. I mean I could not get any Gauss readings anywhere but the cemeteries to haunted supposed sites! Also captured this on video if you watch the documentary I filmed.
