For awhile I been wanting to go high up above Robb Canyon as most investigators focus on the park where haunting's are said to take place very few realize that perhaps the ghost that haunt the lower part of the canyon may also haunt the mountains above it.

As I have explained in our prologue at one time a boom town use to reside higher up above the canyon in the Peavine Mountains. The Peavines are a range that runs along the western edge of Reno and is part of the sierras. If you were to follow Robb Canyon you could make your way up into the Peavines and eventually into the Sierra Nevada's not to far from where the town site use to be.

Today not much remains of the town as a matter in fact its kind of hard to find but the old wagon roads above Robb Canyon are still in great shape from back in the towns mining days. I do want to find the town site but our second trip out this way would focus more on just getting the Peavine experience above Reno.

Tammy and I went to the Great Basin Brewery the food is really good and so are the brews. Sometimes while adventuring I enjoy local culture such as beer, music and food. I am not your typical paranormal investigator I like to integrate the culture and food into our experiences if possible.

I had sampled six different beers and we had some pretty large meals. I had sweet chili Thai wings, Jalapeno won tons, tri tip marinated in their stout, red mashed potatoes, squash, broccoli, zucchini and ichthyosaur bread. After a nice meal like this its nice to get in that jeep and head up into the mountains. As my grandma use to say eat eat it could be your last meal so if it was mine id at least dye on a full belly!

Finding entrances into the Peavine Mountains is a bit tricky you have to understand that Reno is growing rapidly. This is a major city in Northern Nevada its not as small or wholesome as it was many years ago. With that being said many millionaires are buying up property in this range to build large estates and mansions which overlook the city of Reno below. Therefore in order to get to the area I was going you have to drive through ritzy residential neighborhoods and even in some gated communities. Many lawyers, doctors, politicians and casino owners have built their estates on the sides of this range.

Believe me when I say it Reno has some of the most beautiful estates in the country up in the mountains. Its a very lush valley full of trees, flowers, ponds, streams etc. The further you go up into this range the less high desert it becomes until you hit the national forest high above Robb Canyon and the city. Some of the mansions have big wrought iron gates, gardens everywhere, ponds and private drives. Other ones are built on various foothills of the Peavines overlooking the city its pretty nice. But it also says something that where a town once existed today is being consumed by the growth of Reno Nevada.

Its kind of a maze back here not even sure I can tell others how to get up into this range other then to keep climbing through the ritzy residential neighborhoods above Reno until you find a dead end street that has a dirt road climbing higher into the range. I happened to go behind some mansions and found a series of dirt roads which led me above Reno.

I cant say I was directly above Robb Canyon but I was not far from it either. This range is very relevant as at one time it boasted a town which was booming around the same time Reno was developing into a city. The natives for over a 1000 years would come up to where we were at to hunt deer. This area is very abundant with deer because they often come down off the Peavines and down to the Truckee River below to graze.

Some people theorize that their are numerous native American burial grounds found in the Peavines and Robb Canyon. The natives would often take Robb Canyon into the Peavines then they would spread out in different directions to hunt and gather things for their villages such as pine nuts or furs.

I spent sometime offroading up in the range most of them are old wagon roads that go in all sorts of different directions. Some of the roads were in really bad shape with large rocks, washed out gullies, ditches, drop offs, dips etc etc nothing out of the ordinary for older mining district roads here in Nevada.

I eventually took a road that kind of skirts the edge of the Peavines overlooking all of downtown Reno. Where I pulled my jeep off on a hillside facing the city. I did hike around a little but not enough to see everything the range has many gems. But above me a few hundred feet was a peak with a ton of nice rock formations. From Reno if you look at the range you would think its just all brown and rocks but this is not the case. Its very green up here and there are patches of forested areas!

I did do some photography of the valley below its very scenic as you can see the high desert mountains off to the east then to the north a massive peak. Below the city of Reno is completely covered in trees you cant even really see most of the houses because the valley floor is very lush. This is a river valley so its one of Nevada's gems that at times seems like your not in the desert at all.

I burned one up here took a few short clips one overlooking the city another offroading out of here and a final video of some statue of an infant climbing the side of this wall at this estate. Tammy pointed out the statue and we both thought that was a bit out of the ordinary perhaps creepy to some extent. Even though were a paranormal group were also into finding the strange even if it does have an explanation so we can share it with our viewers.

I would have loved to find the ghost town because maybe the ghost that are supposedly said to haunt lower Robb Canyon may actually not be of the homeless who were said to have died here but in reality ghost of the miners who traversed this canyon from Reno to Peavine. Peavine was the name of the town that was up here. I would love to find it but very little remains besides the old wagon roads which I drove on and some mine tailings. But then again their might be other things hidden in the more woodsy areas.

I was not to far from the top of the range these roads technically go all the way up some are steep some are dangerous so you need a jeep or four wheel drive vehicle that can handle this type of terrain. No less its a good area to hike as well. If you were to go on top of the range you will come across a huge canyon or valley rather on the other side which is heavily forested. This is because your heading up into the sierras. Also on the other side of the range it was still very snow covered its not hard to figure this out when your so close to Mount Rose which was only a few miles from our location. Mt. Rose is completely covered in snow right now and here we are mid May!

People have no idea who live in Reno how easy it is to go up into this wilderness. Reno and the Peavines are two entirely different worlds. If you were to make it on top of the range there are great views of Lake Tahoe from here as well as the city of Reno. I did not go that high but I did go easily 1500' above the city to take in some great views and try to see if I could view Robb Canyon from up above. Its a rugged wilderness and it gets very remote extremely fast just something to keep in mind if your looking to escape the city.

No less it puts the region into perspective as canyons begin at the valley floor in the city and eventually top off in the Peavine range. Maybe someday ill get to the ghost town site but more or less id love to do a night portion investigation of Robb Canyon especially the supposedly haunted park which we visited last year ago during the day. I want to work with other groups on these projects maybe do some projects in the Peavines a year or two from now so if you see this and are interested feel free to email me.

Peace,
Lord Rick

Sure its not paranormal but its a creepy little find of an infant statue climbing the wall towards a window. I see it as art but its very strange art no less and not to far away from where we were at in the Peavine Mountains. Sometimes in my journeys we come across many oddities and this just happens to be one of them. I mean the home is on the edge of the wilderness above Reno and definitely caught our eye as we were leaving the Peavine Mountains. It just kind of throws you off a little some might find it creepy others bizarre but no less it became part of our journeys.
