When I first came to this region in 2011 one of the first sites I drove by in the middle of winter was Mormon Fort Station and through all of historic Genoa. I could not believe my eyes the trees, hot springs, frozen over lakes and historic sites. It has always been an area I wanted to work with however we just never have gotten around to working with this area as much till the past couple of years.

In the past couple of years we investigated Genoa Historic and Mottsville Cemeteries. Just as we did an expedition into the higher sierras by climbing up through the Sierra Canyon and standing atop of Genoa Peak which actually overlooks all of Genoa and Mottsville. Genoa being one of Nevada's oldest settlements the fort grounds are certainly very intriguing.

Mormon Fort Station came to be in 1850 between many sites being abandoned, raided, rebuilt and even destroyed by fires somehow it grew into an entire town as of today. But the early wild western history associated with this region is amazing all the way from the emigrant California Trail to the Pony Express and ancient native history dating back as far as 10,000 years ago thus finally being able to visit here and share my experiences with all of you is truly wonderful.

I did try to bring you Mormon Fort Station in October of 2013 and I guess they shut down therefore nobody responded to my request to investigate it. So we would give it another shot as I prefer the fall the town is full of maples and many other trees which look prettier in the Autumn. Except since this location shuts down Mid October later in the month is a bit more beautiful even if the inside of the forts walls are inaccessible.

I wanted to make this a family investigation even during the day the ghost never leave a place they are there. When I arrived I put on my cape and top hat during October we do wear costumes so that way we can make it more fun for our viewers to follow our journeys. But since we have also a large following of younger generation viewing we also want there learning experience to be a fun one at times too.

Tammy was embarrassed as locals were eyeballing me I am not sure why I mean top hats in this region are common to see maybe its the black cape either way Lord Rick or Count Rick I do have to fit the part lol. I really do not care what others think we are who we are the good things that come out of a place like this are invaluable to schools, other paranormal groups and even our viewers.

We first went in to investigate the museum not before stopping at the Snowshoe Thompson statue which he is one of my inspirations when I moved to the Sierras. I have always had great respect for a man who never wanted anybodies but and risked his own life to help others for a living. That is the true meaning of a human being believe me so I pay my respects with sites associated with him in the region.

I met with one of the museum curators or guides for the state she tried to educate me on the natives but I kind of did not continue the conversation because I already am highly aware of the Native American History which surrounds the site of this fort trust me. I could actually be a tour guide here or educate the guides because I understand that Genoa is one of the most relevant historic sites in early wild western history in regards to Nevada.

As far as our EMF detectors well they were broke all of ours seem to break during an investigation. Although I will say that I had gotten allot of high readings off many of the old historical artifacts while outside in the fenced in area we had gotten nothing so its very possible that maybe some of these objects have energy of the past associated with them.

Some of the things I seen were butter churners, an old piano, lanterns, farming tools, wagons, guns, swords, plates, artifacts of the Washoe tribe such as baskets, time pieces, ledgers and the list goes on and on. If you want to see more of them I strongly encourage you watch our youtube videos and on our site you take a look at the pictures. These artifacts are some of the last remnants of the wild west that includes the saddle we seen all the way to the pelts of a black bear and mountain lion.

There are also many pictures of historic figures in relation to the region I only collected a few photos and clips for our site. But I remember seeing Snowshoe Thompson's Skis with a photo of himself who is just buried with his family down the road from the fort which we investigated a couple years prior to this with our team. Just as a photo of Eliza Mott an old sewing machine nearby and even a safe. Eliza is buried at another cemetery nearby called the Mottsville Cemetery which we also investigated. She was the first woman to pioneer to this region and have a child in the Carson Valley.

What caught me as most strange here is not just the grinding rock inside of the fort which can be easily overlooked but the giant hairy bear gloves made by a pioneer figure called "Hank" Monk also stage coach driver. It reminded me of something that someone in today's times might use to hoax bigfoot in the woods with lol.  Just some real primitive survival gear of its day.

It was a pleasant October day honestly in the high 70's most of the maples in the area have not changed yet while other trees were turning reds and yellows. The town is not bustling so its rather quiet to walk around here as the fort is a park also with picnic benches within the walls and outside of them to in the nice shade.

There was allot of nature I found here flowers growing everywhere even in full bloom in October. I seen many squirrels an eagle and while driving in earlier some deer. Of course Jarrod was peeping through the woods through the forts walls and holes when he seen a doe and her fawn.

It turned out after I took some photos in the woods that it was an entire family which included a buck, doe and her two fawns. The one fawn was under a fruit tree with the buck while the doe was with her other fawn that seemed to have a liking for us. It put its nose within a couple feet of us and well to look a wild deer in the face is a rare experience.

I seen deer at night all around the fort dozens of them but to see them twice in one day around the fort and to get some of the photos I had gotten really was an awesome experience. I mean besides the history here the wildlife and scenic Carson Range of the sierras is breathtaking so I wanted to bring those elements into this investigation.

I mainly did EVP sessions here it only takes a few good EVP to prove that a place is haunted afterall even though this fort is a replica part of it is extremely old along with the land its on. The Californian trail ran right through the middle of the fort which crossed over into the high sierras and we have crossed it ourselves higher up in the mountains so everything we are doing really connects to eachother.

The wagons that are out in the fort itself along with the log flume and even stone wheels are remnants of the past or a part of early pioneer history. I hope they stay preserved not much is left but to see them was a real treat for those who are history buffs.

I do not know if the area is haunted but I have some good theories as to why it might be so for me I had to know. I did not expect any ghost to jump out at me in broad daylight but I have to admit the museum has an energy about it its rather strange. Maybe it is all the old B&W portraits or the fact that they show photos of when the great fire occurred or even perhaps its the fact that some of them belonged to the dearly departed.

We did have a nice picnic with subs, homemade pumpkin bread with powdered sugar, snacks and drinks it was so peaceful hearing the birds. Genoa square is across the street so people are coming and going from the shops. Our lunch was really nice I mean we took our time with the Fort Station spent a few hours not only investigating and covering the history but as a family breaking bread.

I took the time to read the plaques including all about the various emigrant trails, early pioneer life and all about Genoa. So I understand it quite well and we will have an amazing write up on our site for those who really want to delve into history.

I had also had gotten to pet the mountain lion and black bear pelts which was really awesome. I mean Genoa sits up in the foothills of the sierras 5k so the wild life in the region is very abundant along with the ranches, lakes, tributaries etc. As a matter in fact near the fort was a ranch with dozens of cattle seeking shade under some trees with nice views to go with it all that to me is the life.

I am not sure I will return again I might just because I want to see the museum continue to stay open so that others can enjoy all the treasures it holds. I mean prior to the Fort Station there was nothing out here but a town grew it was one the first in all of NV as this frontier was wild and vast it still is today if that gives you any idea of what it means to be an explorer of this region.

I also seen allot of Native American History such as Mortars and Pestles, baskets and on the grounds a grinding rock. Behind the fort is rather woodsy that is where the deer stay during the day eating off the fruit trees which seem to be everywhere around the site of the fort itself. I was even surprised to see a few butterflies and even dragonflies landing on some of the plant life in October here pretty cool stuff.

This was a great way to kick off October for our team/group and a very huge part of this regions history so I think we hit our goals as to what we set off to do. The walls today within the fort are probably not as high as they were many years ago when you had to have such a place to protect the early settlers which the first being the Mormons who made this area part of Utah Territory nearly almost taking over the entire west at first.

I wanted to make this fun so many students, schools and people will benefit from our investigation and documentary from this project. It may help draw in more folks to the museum so that it never closes and continues to grow just as it will give others the chance to really see what the wild west was about. Nevada seen its first European man in 1848 after the gold rush it sparked thousands of emigrants who passed right through where the present day fort and oldest home supposedly in NV stands today. We will have to see what comes of this investigation I took photos of the upstair window and did some EVP sessions so either way I feel will find something strange.
Namaste,
Lord Rick
PGS Founder

Pretty creepy gloves eh? Aside from chasing the paranormal I enjoy oddities and fortean type of phenomena as well. This here is not either but it still is unique I mean imagine if this man wore bear skin and bear gloves how eerie that might be to see this guy running around the sierras. Maybe just maybe some of those Bigfoot reports around Genoa were because of Hank Monk just something to consider. No less this oddity is what it is some very warm gloves that could make some great odd tracks in the snow or mud lol.

We found this large rock just randomly residing within the fort which suggest that it was originally here which is scenerio A. while scenerio B. It was put here by the curators since it was to large to house inside the museum. The Genoa area is lush full of lakes, tributaries and the Carson River. Thus any berries, seeds, pine nuts etc could be ground using a secondary rock. The hand motion or grinding of what some today would call a Pestle would continue to burrow a hole within rocks like these which might take years to even decades. One can envision a native American woman grinding up various remedies while kneeling down at this rock its rather fascinating and perhaps allot of energy surrounds it today. The ancient Washoe did use grinding rocks perhaps for berries, pine and grass nuts thus the hole you see before you. Since the museum houses these artifacts most were donated or found in the area thus these are signs that in the cooler months an ancient village may have resided nearby.

The museum of the fort houses some of the most historical artifacts in direct relation to the early pioneers who came here seeking prosperity. Among some of those oddities is a set of man bear gloves can you imagine seeing a person dressed up in this hairy gig in the woods? Some of the historical artifacts found here like old butter churners, plates, piano, ledge etc are some of the true treasures of western pioneer history that includes the creepy portraits. The only thing that is not creepy is that cute girl to the left in the beginning of the video and I am sure even she has a few ghost stories of her own to share. Imagine how many of these items have energy connected to them all the way from the Native American artifacts to what some of the early Pioneers brought with them out west.

This grinding rock symbolized that Genoa during the cooler months was home to the ancient Washoe tribe who would grind pine nuts, berries and other seeds which would eventually erode the rock creating this hole from years of grinding. After we found the rock my son Jarrod takes me in the museum to show me Snow Shoe Thompson's Skis. Thompson was a hero delivering mail, medical supplies and other necessities traversing the sierras and sometimes even rescuing pioneers from the brutal high sierras.

For lunch we had subs, snacks and homemade pumpkin bread. I am really big on dining outdoors especially during our investigations we will break for lunch or dinner breaking bread. I guess in this video I get a bit to excited with seeing the yummy pumpkin bread and getting so stoked I even had to flash the cape. You have to have some good eats when your exploring its just PGS tradition.

Fruit is very abundant in Genoa so are many ranches but there are many passes and canyons that go up into the higher sierras. So it would make sense that Bigfoot would come down off the Carson Range elusively to get his hands on some of this fruit if it means his survival. Below are two more images showing deer which are also abundant in the area and could sustain a Sasquatch.
