Finally a two year trip in the making was achieved this past weekend as we conquered Potosi Mtn and its tunnel system within. The reason for my trip was simple Potosi is not only the site of a TWA wreck but its also one of the last big beast of the Spring Mountain range. The caves and mines underneath the mountain were rumored to go for miles so with careful planning and preparation we decided to take this place to a whole new level.

The reason behind me investigating the place is not just for things that go bump in the night but the historical aspect of it well. You must understand that this place is very prestigious to the Las Vegas area since the Mormons settled in the valley and started to mine lead, silver and zinc. I always wondered myself where this mine was located as perhaps if mining did not occur the city of Las Vegas in the 1800's may never have thrived. But the Mormons who settled here found ways to survive even if that meant climbing to the peak of Potosi and mining the area to stimulate growth.

Not only that but my mind was racing when I was told that its possible in the 1700's that the Spaniards and Native American people already inhibited this mine perhaps making me wonder if some of these were natural cavern systems that had been designed into a much more intricate miming system. Were not talking a few tunnels but a location above 6000 ft that held mining tracks, chutes, shafts, equipment a century old, chambers, cobble stone tunnels, wood tunnels, rooms with beams of wood holding it up etc.

I spent allot of time prepping for this trip we bought all new lights and some equipment for the trip. All the little trips we made in previous months were to prep us for this location. A location that is mixed with desert life and foliage from the Toiyabe national forest. Its almost a world of its own looks nothing like being in southern Nevada.

I spent a long time trying to recruit others for the trip unfortunately out of dozens of responses none of them really peaked my interest. When it comes to the paranormal everybody gives me the same lines I always wanted to do this...the stuff fascinates me....how much are you going to pay me etc etc this trip was nothing more then for the glory and the fact that we could have the opportunity to explore such a hidden jewel. We had some folks back out or they called me after we already left Saturday morning everybody wants to be an explorer dont they from their computers...and couches...but admiring it and living to do it are two separate things my friends.

Little did Tammy and I know that our trip throughout the day would have many obstacles we would have to overcome. By the time we made it near the peak and into the tunnels we would be getting blasted with snow.....low mean looking clouds....high winds....and taking a chance at possibly spending our entire night up here. We ended up not getting home till after midnight and keep in mind we left early in the morning so yeah we covered ALLOT of territory here.

As always right now most of our trips are morning trips that last all day going into the night and so we made sure we had plenty of food, drinks, dinner and of course a tall cup of coffee. I took Tammy and I the scenic route into Potosi which cuts into Red Rock canyon.....so pretty with the snow on the peaks. It was like looking at a painted scenic photo as we enjoyed some music......coffee....and were very excited to go inside the mountain and explore.

We turned down a rugged dirt road the location had many no trespassing signs saying do not get off the road and do not even stop. My concern was for the residents living in a local cabin who have been known to shoot there guns or point them at anybody traversing to close to their property. Hell maybe they got a good pot stash growing who knows but the only thing I cared about is the mountain and its secrets held within.

What seems like a nice picnic in the woods can change into a fight for survival on any exploration and so our adventure would begin here.

Mount Potosi & Mine

As we went a few miles down the road the entire area was being pelted with snow. Their was no sunshine it was very gloomy out.....the peaks had clouds around them....fog was oozing along the road.....this looked like to me a one way trip at first. I was a little excited about the snow as some of you know I was raised in Buffalo. I learned how to survive in extreme temperatures, snow, storms and things. I also learned how to drive extremely well on it with or without chains or treads lol.

We made our way for miles as we went deeper in the forest and foliage increased to a point where the road was just narrow enough for our car. We seen the cabin in the middle of nowhere and right away I turned to my left and up a pretty rugged road with the car. I had to drive extremely close to a drop off since their were holes and rocks that would have immobilized the vehicle.

Tammy was very scared because the road up to Potosi can be a little rough and well one wrong turn...hitting a rock the wrong way....driving in a hole could easily immobilize the vehicle. When we could go no further I cut to my right in this big open area with these odd rock formations. I actually parked right in front of them and below me was a valley with more mountains in front of us and dirt roads.

Tammy and I right away heard gun shots guess some guys on the other side of the valley over near some mountains were just firing their shot guns. It was pretty apparent that many people liked to come up here just to fire guns since we found many shot gun shells on our journey.

We had some pretty heavy back packs for this trip......I was wearing layers of clothing as our friend Steve told me the day before they were expecting snow up here so I definitely prepared for the worst. I spent a good portion of my time mapping this place out what sucked is my compass broke so I had a little trouble finding the mine. I knew where it was at but finding an easy path to it without spending a days journey hiking would be the obstacle.

Tammy and I hiked down into this deep wash nearby it was some stone foundations perhaps from the old 99 mine which appeared to be imploded. I had to remember what the satellite map showed of the area and we had been looking for this open area that had trails that split off left and right.  I found a small cave didn't check it out but its one of these holes barely big enough to crawl in where it leads hard to say maybe its a secret passage into the Potosi mine you never know.

As we hiked down into the wash the walls became steeper and harder to hike through so I basically took us out of it and we started to climb to the peak of a mountain to our left. It was very steep and what made it hard is that it was snowing harder and harder. By the time we reached the peak the view was amazing we seen the little cabin a mile out in front of us.......the car way off in the distance.....and in our sites was the Mt. Potosi Peak with some clouds surrounding it.

We went down the mountain on the other side since we discovered an old overgrown road and across from the same wash we were in. When I reached the bottom and onto the road we seen a rabbit and could not believe we just climbed this mountain considering how much snow accumulated within that hour.

We found some areas that matched the satellite map or similarities thus we decided to take a trail which dead ended so we ended up on this other peak with very odd rock formations. I followed those formations along a ridge which led me to more rock formations. The sun was coming out the clouds broke apart and patches of blue graced the Spring Mountains. I was so excited that we might see some good weather and the snow was melting rather fast. When I reached the end of this ridge I came around the back side of these rocks and found one of southern Nevada's most famous caves called the Pinnacle. Basically in simple terms its a 120 foot hole leading down into a series of small chambers.  Without repelling gear their is no way to get down into these caves so we took our photos then made our way back down to the dirt road below.

Tammy prior to this thought she heard a scream I did not hear it but later in my exploration I thought I spotted what appeared to be a large feline mountain lion running across the valley below us. Most people who come up here bring guns.

At this point it was already almost 1pm we had already been hiking for almost 5 hours I couldn't believe that this much time had passed. We ended up right back where we started not once but 3 times trying to find the right path which would take us to the Potosi Mine. Unlike most mines that sit in the bottom of a hill, mountain or on the side....Potosi mine sat 6, 258 feet above so there was some amount of challenge to get to it then explore it also.

We went further down the road and came to a wash where the sign split the trail on off I should have taken the left trail but according to my maps they both run parallel so I figured if we took it then we could just cut right up to the mines. My plan actually worked but we had our work cut out for us.

Tammy was in allot of pain her hamstrings were giving her problems and knees. The medicine I gave her seemed to help her a little. The air was thin and at this point we probably already hiked a few miles up some very steep grades for hundreds of feet. Some of it was rock climbing others were just narrow trails cutting through the brush.

We reached a sign that had many bullet holes in it and we took the trail to the right...which basically takes you up halfway up the mountain....then cuts you over along a steep grade. Below us to our right we could see the various roads which ran through the valley...then on the other side of us we could seen various peaks of the spring mountains. It was gorgeous.....and a family was in the valley with there kids just exploring below us.

I followed this massive mountain....the peak to it was to my left but it was a steep climb. I knew on the other side of that peak was the mines. But I wanted Tammy to save her energy because I knew our day had only just begun. After we lost sight of the trail....I decided to take us down the mountain and head down to this road which looked like it went between two mountains. It was a pass of some kind and I knew if we took that it would probably lead us up to the Mines.

I made my way down the mountain....over a wash....and to this old rusted truck. The view was so scenic it left me breathless. The storm was over the mountains to the south.....their was a huge valley of desert in front of me....and then I had mountains to the east and west of me covered partially in snow with forest. I mean honestly Id rather be here exploring anyday then to be stuck home on the couch.

I got way ahead of Tammy little did I know she was behind a blind spot where I could not see her and she hit her head and everything went dizzy. It doesn't take much in these mountains to lose footing its very dangerous to ascend or descend on any mountains surrounding Las Vegas let alone any of the mountain ranges around Nevada.

Tammy and I took a break at the rusty truck....then decided to take this road which looked btw like an old mining road with large stones and boulders surrounding it. The road was rugged but eventually it curved around the mountain we were just hiking on and ended at this ravine. Above us very high up we could see these cliffs and what appeared to be a few holes in them.  I looked more carefully and seen near the cliffs piles upon piles of fine gravel, rocks and debris. Its the one thing you always look for when your mine hunting since back in the day they would dig the tunnels...then dump the debris right outside the mine itself.

Tammy and I readied ourselves it would be one hell of a climb we had a ravine to our right....then a very rugged steep climb to our left which was basically the same mountain we were just on only on the opposite side of it.

Tammy was in allot of pain so I took her the easiest way possible no large rocks....just little run offs that went up the side of the mountain. The higher we went the more debris we started to see such as parts of mine carts, machinery, rusted tin cans and tnt boxes etc etc. I honestly must say I seen more debris along the ravine and slope then any mining or ghost town site.

Hundreds of feet above I sited what looked like a road with a cobble stone bridge. It looked so small and Tammy was like I say another 3 hours till we get to those cliffs. I cut the time down to perhaps an hour if we kept ascending upward. The canyon to the top of the cliffs was getting rougher I found this old knife with a wood handle with a name carved in it.

Along the ravine I found what I believe is the lowest part of the mine an entrance that was very narrow but 7 feet tall. I thought about exploring it but with the storm, winds and snow starting to come in I told Tammy we should get to our destination where we could seek shelter if needed. I will however show the guys where this mine entrance is if we go back out here in a week or two to explore the area further. I do believe that this entrance in the ravine hundreds of feet below is probably part of the mine. I can only imagine if one were to go in here they could look up and see all the shafts above them.

We finally reached the massive debris piles of rocks their was no way to climb this loose gravel and rock so we had to go around them and climb a stone wall onto the mining road. I never felt so happy in my life we were standing on a narrow road overlooking the valley below us.....and level with so many other mountain peaks in the area.

Sadly the sun was starting to go down....the clouds were so thick most of the mountains we could no longer see....snow was coming down....winds increased...and the temp dropped. Tammy was like where do we go next and I had a series of choices. We could follow the cliffs holding on going to a few holes we seen from below one includes an entrance so large  that it looks like a giant cavern.  Tammy pointed out that their were many mine entrances all around us as the area we were in was a U shape composed of 3 separate mountains. On each side within this canyon were various entrances to the Potosi tunnels. Some appeared to be natural cave formations while others you could tell were man made. I stood up on the plateau enjoying my last sight of daylight as we would be soon in nothing but chilling darkness.

I followed the mining road along the cliffs....then we carefully had to cross a pile of rocks and debris that blocked the old road. To our left the cliffs went straight up to the peak of Potosi. Their was no slopes here and if we were to go back and take this other trail we could actually reach an upper level to the mine above higher up in those cliffs.

I figured by entering the main entrance to the mine that everything would connect and I was right it did of course many dangers would lie ahead for us. As Tammy and I came around an outcropping of rocks hidden behind them was a giant entrance to the mine. You could not see it from the valley...or even hiking up the ravine or slope. The piles of debris and fine rocks had blocked the view to the entrance. When we walked up to the main entrance their was a concrete wall which was broken and full of graffiti. Their was allot of graffiti on the cliffs and surrounding the mine. Just as inside the mine I found someone's name and the date 1984 so long before I been here it appeared many others had marked their territories surrounding the mine. My question was is how far would I go because lets face it there are some places in this mine that are almost impossible to get to shafts...pits....etc

When Tammy and I entered the mine we were in a big open area. To our left was a giant room lucky we did not go to it because that room has a crevice so big and deep that it probably goes hundreds of feet down.  Tammy and I stuck to the path taking it down a very wide tunnel which narrowed and split off. To our right was a set of mine cart tracks and to our left a cobble stone tunnel held up by wood beams.

We took the left path which eventually took us into this chamber full of piles of rocks. At this point that chamber had a few tunnels branching off in different directions. We sat right by one of the tunnels on a pile of rocks almost touching the high ceiling within the mine. There were candles Tammy lit them then we had a nice dinner together and of course after I smoked a joint I have to say it was the best one I ever smoked in my life. I never thought we would get to see this place I was so excited that I couldn't wait to finish eating and smoking so I could explore it more.

Tammy thought she heard something in the mine but ill let her write it out in her report on this location. I didn't feel anything ghostly, demonic or paranormal here. But the place was extremely foreboding and intimidating. You could spend a good amount of time going down a narrow tunnel only to find out it is a dead end while other times when you reached the end of a tunnel it would split off into more tunnels or rooms.

Many of the tunnels were tall enough to walk around in while some you had to crawl on your hands and knees The problem was that some tunnels piles of stone/gravel were blocking the way so you had to crawl over them and into new chambers. Many of the tunnels twisted and turned while in one of the chambers it led us down into a tunnel that had a set of tracks which we followed.

Eventually that led us into some tunnels with allot of graffiti....one way led to giant pit with a wood plank that crossed it. I started to cross the plank and continue down the tunnel but then figured that I could find another tunnel that would lead me around never did find it so perhaps this led to another part of the mine.

We found many shafts going up to the upper level one of them had a steep ladder going up into a hole. The ladder was missing a few wood slats and was not very sturdy. I did climb it about half way up had Tammy take a photo but I know a much safer way to get to the upper level of the mine from the outside so I figured I would save this for a second trip here.

One of the shafts going up had a rope to climb....while this other shaft going down had these wood platforms every 30 feet down till you could no longer see nothing but darkness. I actually found a tunnel that went down to another lower level the problem is that when I took it down it veered to the right and their was allot of loose rock. I could feel myself slipping and just 12 feet away was a giant pit of darkness. Even if I made it to the wood platform it was only held up by a few wood beams so I left it alone.

Tammy and I found some old drums from the past stacked up in this one chamber while another one had these mine cart tracks with wood ties still in tact. Some of the tunnels had warnings like death awaits......or no exit.....or dead end.....or strange symbols. I seen many Nazi symbols on the walls....while the star of David was on the wall in another chamber and even an upside down cross. The place at times had a creepy feeling to it. I never knew what was around each corner or turn.

There was a place I climbed up into and whenever I came to the dangerous areas I had Tammy stay back for safety purposes. But I found a room with little graffiti that I climbed up into. In the room behind me was a pit to what looked like hell it was endless....while in front of the tunnels to move deeper into the mine was this square hole made out of wood logs.  It had a little slope going down into it so I had to slowly work my way towards it without sliding down into the hole. Upon looking into it the square frame covered a hole that seemed bottomless. I threw a rock down there never heard it hit the bottom which could mean that the pit could go hundreds of feet down maybe even a 1000 feet down who knows right? But this appeared to be one of the oldest areas of the mine.

In front of the hole was a tunnel held up by wood logs on both sides of the walls. I was going to go down that tunnel but the problem was is that I would either have to run and jump over the shaft....or go around it hoping that the slick loose gravel would not cause me to fall down this hole so I turned back. I was fascinated with the find and can only imagine that some of the other entrances along the cliff might lead to the backside of this location. It appeared as if the entire mine was connected whether it was shafts going up....or pits going down...or just chambers leading to other tunnel systems.

Strangely some parts of the mine were ice cold maybe because some of them shafts to the upper levels led to the outside so cool air was flowing through but other parts of the mine were very warm to a point where I was sweating.  Tammy and I found this one tunnel with these old ore chutes. We had to squeeze tightly pass them and well prior to that I had hit my head really good because honestly tall guys and mines do not work out to well lol. The first time I hit my head it knocked me on the ground I was dazed Tammy was asking me things I made a joke was laughing about it. I was like where am I hahaha.:)

There was this one area we went where Tammy and I thought we heard something in the mine. I know I heard it to but I was in the middle of moving around and talking. Maybe it was a ghost who knows but I didn't get any bad feelings here like the mines up in Goodsprings which are actually adjacent to Mount Potosi where we encountered that demon a year ago. As I was telling Tammy this is just what it is a straight up historical mine with allot of history to it.

Tammy was really digging the mine so was I.  I could sit here for hours telling you about the place. What I noticed about this mine is that everything a mine could possibly have this place had. The mine had a wide variety of sites mine tracks, mine cars, tunnels, shafts, wood beams, cobble stone walls, chambers, rooms etc etc

At this point we had seen most of the main mine if I were to see more of the place I would have to come back with gear or visit other entrances surrounding the main entrance. That way I could see if some of those other tunnels connected to some of the harder to reach places. We went down this one tunnel which was hidden behind a pile of rocks which led us to a crystal tunnel all shimmering. This area still was being mined apparently by the locals. You could see flat head screw driver stab marks in the quartz and crystals. I remember finding this giant rock loaded with chunks of silver I did put it down just was a pretty cool find.

Nearing the end of the journey Tammy and I found many tunnels that connected to other places we already been so we basically seen the central part of the mine. There was an area that you had to hunch down well I under estimated it and hit my head very hard. It hit hard enough that Tammy heard a loud thud and of course I fell to the ground. This time I was joking I hit my head so hard I became woozy.....and some of my memory faded. Next I felt blood running under my hat but when later Tammy examined my head we found no blood so apparently what I felt is the blood underneath my skin rushing to the knot I just made on my head. Just for future reference you should always wear hard hats in mines I prefer not to but that's just me I know the consequences but its no different then hitting your head in your own kitchen when your not paying attention so wtf right?:)

Tammy was really worried about me because we were extremely far from the car we were not even out of the mine and well if I had cut my head open I could have bled to death. At this point I was ignoring that this even happened and I continued to take photos.....Tammy took EVPs for a few hours in the mine....I did some videos....all the pits to hell I got close to and took photos of so that others who browse our site can get a real perspective on the dangers of mines.

We decided that it would be time to go and we took a different way out the problem was the exit was blocked with a chain link fence. There was a way to climb up to the upper right hand side the problem was if you slipped you would roll into a crevice that who knows how deep it went. I followed the crevice and it was about 10 to 15 feet across by almost 50 feet long. It appeared to go a few hundred feet down but maybe deeper considering my light would not break the darkness of this pit. We had no way to cross it so we had to climb all the way up these rocks...out of the chamber....and take a tunnel all the way around to the main entrance and out.

Based on the fact that one of the shafts I threw a rock in and never heard it hit the bottom I can only speculate the fact that yes their might be miles of tunnels within this place if you were to include the shafts that go straight up or straight down then yes. Where some of those other risky tunnels lead could be other exits out of the mine perhaps....or even to other levels/stories within.

When Tammy and I exited the mine the fresh air felt great but at this point their was a couple inches of snow on the ground. Everything was draped with snow including the trees....cliffs...rocks....drop offs etc. Tammy was crying out of fear for me because I still was having a hard time walking straight after I hit my head. My vision was impaired on and off.....and I was having a hard time trying to readjust myself to hiking back to the car.

We had no signal on the cell phone even more so it kept coming on inside the mine on its own which bothered me a little because the battery was completely drained. There was nobody to help us except for us to work together to get back to the car.

The first obstacle would be getting off the mountain the second would be trying to get a vehicle with no traction through the snowy rugged road and out of the mountains. Something that Tammy voiced concern over during our second break within the mines. She mentioned how the car may not make it out of here if there is snow on the roads. I at the time would only take things one step at a time. I find out that taking little steps during my investigations help complete my goals.  I had stayed ahead of Tammy then told her to follow my tracks I made in the snow and down the mountain. I paved the way for my Tammy because she was having a hard time seeing where to go.

My job basically is to teach others how to climb, hike, survive and take people out to locations getting them in safe and getting them out alive. When we came out of the mine I had to take a few moments to think this threw. We had allot of snow it was dark but light enough to a point where we didn't need flashlights. I could see the trail the scary thing about it was it ran along the edge of a steep drop off. Some parts of the trail were so narrow that we had to hug the brush otherwise if we fell we would end up sliding down hundreds of feet possibly hitting rocks below or trees.

We had it off the narrow part of the trail as it follow the top of the mountain around to a giant canyon. This is the canyon that has a deep wash but it also has cliffs built into it. Tammy and I no longer had a trail to follow it was just a steep mountain thousands of feet up with allot of foliage covered in snow.

We would have no choice but to become human sleds and get off the mountain using our bodies. The mountain was so steep we couldn't stand in most of the areas we were descending at. Our lights wouldn't reach no more then a hundred feet out in front of us and everytime we looked in front of us we realized that we had cliffs....drop offs....slopes that could lead to death.....and giant rocks all around us. We took it very very slow using anything we could hold onto to get off the ridge and mountain.

At one point we came to some cliffs.....so then I had to follow the edge of the canyon down sometimes sliding as much as 12 feet down. We had to hug rocks....a few times Tammy went down I caught her from going off the mountain....one time I fell grabbed a tree that saved my life as well. It took us a couple hours to get off the mountain....you have to understand that the trees and brush almost grow sideways and here we were ants on a snowy hill. I took us slowly down the mountain on our asses and backs. It seemed to work because every 12 to 20 feet was a tier or flat area we could stand and take a break at. What was scary about the whole situation is that you could never seen the drop offs till you were right up on them so we had to take some measures while sliding but it still was the safest and most feasible decision at the moment. Tammy was like I want to go home as fast as possible so I granted her wish and I took us the shortest route back possible. Luckily this was not a place of many cactuses I only found one under the snow and it got me pretty good but can you imagine if their was many in abundance such as those barrel cactuses which can penetrate bone and shoes? OUCH! lol

Far away I could see the location our car was at the roads were full of snow but you could see them with the naked eye. I equipped my red head lamp to give the snow a red soft light so that I could free up my arms a little more. I must say this probably was the funnest part of the trip I remember we came up to this smooth rock covered in snow and Tammy was like now what. I told her watch what I am going to do and follow me exactly. I slide down it catching myself at the end in some brush. If I slipped It meant for Tammy to take a different route. I was no glad at this point to do our final slide into the wash where a sign said caution no trespassing lol.

When we arrived at the car I looked back to see the beast we just came down from totally an amazing exit we made. Tammy says its crazy.....but that is what we are an extreme paranormal adventure group. Doesn't matter how we do it as long as it gets done. I could swing like Tarzan all the way down as long as everybody gets home safe that's what matters.

The car was covered in snow......all the windows....hood...trunk...etc Tammy was shivering like crazy and cold. I had her go in the car to warm it up while I took a bedroom slipper I had and cleaned the entire car off. I must say that I did not start to feel cold till my last few hundred feet to the car my toes and shoes became wet and full of snow. But when I cleaned off the car my hand got so much ice and snow on it that I could not feel it for awhile. My gloves were already wet so I had taken them off prior to cleaning off the car.

I slowly backed out of this giant open area the tires were barely moving.....and as I turned around to get back on the road I had realized I had to go up a steep grade. The car refused to move it did not want to go I gave it gas a few times. Tammy was worried telling me Rick I told you I have no traction and we might get stuck here. All I could think of is a hot pizza and smoking some herb....so I stepped on the gas jolting the wheel left and right super fast....the car starting fish tailing and I climbed out of this gully we were in and onto the dirt road.

As I went down the road I had to take the car along a drop off....due to the fact their was a giant rock slab in the road. I was not sure how I would pull this one off and we almost went over the edge the car was sliding like crazy but I kept it steady enough and we made it back in front of the cabin. The lights were on someone was home and well the local isn't to keen on visitors and yes he carries a nice big gun. So I didn't waste no time I went past his place but ended up taking this rugged canyon road the car was fish tailing....there was these stone layers covered in snow I had climbed them giving the car gas we were fish tailing I had allot of trouble keeping the car from spinning out of control and off into the woods or off the road. Sadly when the brush started to consume the car on both sides we realized it wasn't the main road. I had to make a three point turn on this little rocky road covered in snow yeah ummm almost got stuck....but again another miracle.

I gassed it hard off the private road made a quick left at the cabin again passing this guys place for the 3rd time spinning my tires throwing up snow. The roads in front of the cabin are maze like some of them are meant for trucks only while some snow covered are literally impossible to drive on. After going in circles down a few roads we found the main road out. Now keep in mind the main road out of Potosi is very rugged.....sometimes very very narrow....and with snow its even worst. I could not believe that I got the car to climb the grade it did with the snow....and rugged road but we did it tires spinning....car sliding all over it was very difficult and not once could I even take a break otherwise we may have gotten stuck up in the pass in freezing temps.

We took the main road for about 6 miles the scary thing is that most of the holes were covered in with snow.....if we hit one of those holes that would mean us getting stuck regardless or bottoming out the car. There was two areas along this road that really put allot of pressure on me one area had deep grooves....another area went up hill and had really bad rugged terrain like large rocks and stones. The car was bouncing.....we were fishtailing for a couple miles....at one point the car was sliding left and right.......and I just kept gassing it trying to keep the wheel steady from hitting a tree or us spinning out of control. Tammy was grabbing onto to me saying oh my god. I just kept focusing hard to keep the car on the road and to get us out of this place. I told Tammy to not worry afterall I am a Buffalonian were use to driving in 9 feet of snow haha so wtf is a couple inches right?

Eventually the road widened to two car lengths and we were pretty clear out of the woods minus the fact that the last two miles most of it was down hill. Now the final obstacle......the snow threw up ice around the break pads thus I had no brakes. We were flying down the hill I turned a snowy bend at like 50 mph lol....I couldn't stop was pumping and applying gentle pressure on the brakes. I felt like a pilot trying to land a plane without landing gear lol.

I thought to myself what more could go wrong in one day we got lost, hit our heads, almost fell down a pit to hell, made it off icy cliffs.....got the car out of Potosi and now our brakes are failing. Which meant without brakes I would end up on the highway possibly smashing into oncoming traffic.

With some luck I got my brakes back and we made it to the main road where I stopped the car for a little bit and we got the cell phone out of the back. I had tears of joy or I knew that it was party time now that I seen a paved road. I almost wanted to kiss that road but instead I decided that I could share this great exploration with all of you threw the photos taken on the expedition which I will say their are many scenic ones....and some pretty awesome mine photos of the pits...shafts...tunnels and other cool finds.

I am hoping to return again to do the tunnel I found in the ravine.....and do another couple entrances surrounding the main one. I found out as of today the other large entrance is another large part of this mine maybe they connect at some of the tunnels we turned around at due to holes that were shafts leading to lower levels.

One thing is for sure mines like these are rare not only that but this is the type of place you talk about at college or read about in books. Its not just a tunnel or a couple rooms but its the largest mine I have ever visited perhaps one of the most deadly to in the sense that their are shafts.....allot of climbing....its easy to get lost....not to mention its a hell of a climb to the peak almost of Potosi alone.

Is the mine haunted well will find out once we review the hours of EVPs.....photos....and evidence we collected from our trip. I do plan on possibly returning to the location sometime this month again with Tammy hopefully Steve as well so we can explore some other areas. It should be interesting to see other levels...entrances....and tunnels.  Tammy and I are feeling pretty good we had a few bumps and bruises but even she agreed it was well worth the exploration.

Tammy slept on the way home and this is for anybody who joins my team. I want you to understand that I treat everybody as equals everybody goes through the motions and tribulations on our investigations. We all go together we all leave together and Tammy has done very very well probably better then most men who join my team. I don't treat anybody any different one hand helps another which allows us to accomplish many of the recent projects we have achieved like Spirit Mountain.......French Mtn Peak......and Potosi!

I had a good time just sitting inside deep within the mine candles lit...toking up.....eating dinner....and climbing through tunnels for hours. We covered allot of this location and I am sure much more remains to be seen perhaps even some higher paranormal areas within the mine in some of the older tunnels.

Nobody knows the actual age of the mine some say the Indians were using this place as caves then the Spaniards came along started mining....and eventually the Mormons in the 1800's where they mined the location which of course led to the expansion of Las Vegas and other travelers in the area who built this city.

I am expecting a much larger group our second excursion here and even a more detailed exploration into some of the lower levels which I estimate are 500 ft below the main entrance....and another two large entrances Tammy and I did not have time to traverse through yet.

In my opinion its a strange place allot of dust...sometimes you can feel breeze pass by you....other rooms are hot some are very cold. Its a cool place and honestly out of almost all Urban Explorations I have ever done outdoors or concerning mines this place is my favorite. Its secluded....high up....hard to get to....and there is no way you could see all the tunnels within a day. Rumor has it their are miles of tunnels maybe this myth holds some truth but one thing is for sure where their is history their is mystery.

We should have this expedition on our site sometime in April and Tammy will have her report on the location as well on her thoughts and some of the things she seen and heard. As I said in the subject just AWESOME!!!

This ectoplasm seems to be diverted into two masses which appear to be taking on some form. This was taken on the mountain side of Potosi a half mile from the mine itself.
