The Mackay Mansion is really one of Virginia Cities best kept secrets. Allot of tourist come down to see this boom town but very few ever stop in the locations that made the boom town grow. Mackay was a rich man he ran the Gould and Curry Mine bringing millions of dollars of revenue.
 
When Tammy and I arrived nobody was around the caretaker will let you in and he has allot of great stories. I do not always investigate these places for its ghost but rather its history and we can preserve it through our website so others can enjoy it for years to come. We want to bring in tourism so that the mansion stays open so when it ends up on our site your going to get allot of bang for your full attention.
 
It snowed the day before so it was pretty cold up here the chickens and a cock was running around following us. Behind the mansion is a gazebo, stage coach house, various statues and even a coop. I seen an old wagon and the view was really great of the VC hills. During my historical tour I was told on a clear day you could see for about 200 miles and so I made sure I captured those scenic shots for our members.
 
Tammy and I started out in the office of Mackay was told that despite the hundreds that owned him he ended up ripping up those promissory notes because the Mackay's were just that wealthy. Our guide was loading wood into the wood stove like I said it was very cold out Virginia City had gotten hit pretty good with snow.
 
I liked the office was able to see a grandfather clock, old phone, lamps, chairs and even the desk that Mackay spent many nights at ripping up those IOU notes.We would take it to the Ingot room which is the room where it served as a vault but you could technically come up to the window and guy ingots from the Mackay's. I was told that he also had 500lb ingots which I never heard of till I spoke to our guide.
 
He is an older man very knowledgeable about the home told me that about 70 percent of everything here is original the other 30 percent was stolen before it was made as a designated historic site. I was also told that the major fire did not burn the mansion down but 75 percent of Virginia City did and allot of great sites were lost.
 
We would visit the parlor which had a huge fire place and luxury furniture. Times were much different back in the day candles and gas lamps were used. The parlor had many old paintings of some of the kids and family members who lived there. Some are a little creepy and silver ware is also found in the parlor which makes it very elaborate. The parlor is much different then what we spend our time in today. I mean today we have televisions, computers, PS3, Xbox and electricity running in our parlors.
 
We moved onto the dining room which is fascinating that president Grant, Mark Twain, Thomas Edison and even Alexander Graham Bell ate in this room. The old china and silverware was amazing that includes the chandelier that hangs over the very long dining room table. During weddings I was told that they do rent out the dining room I am sure eating here would be amazing.
 
Tammy and I took our investigation upstairs which had three bedrooms. The first one was Mackay's room connecting to his wife's bedroom. Then there was a children's room with a rocking horse and a creepy doll in a rocker. One of the things that stood out was the old telephone in Mackay's bedroom and all the luxury furnishings. These bedrooms were night with beautifully handcrafted furnishings and lamps.
 
Also on the second floor was the first indoor restroom in the entire wild west. The bathroom even had its own wood stove to keep you warm on a cold winter night. Going back down the narrow stairwell really had given you a feeling of what life was like back in the day just as roaming the mansions narrow halls.
 
I think that even visiting it a few times you could not see everything in this mansion. There are so many great artifacts and historical pieces that the mansion is more of a living museum where a very wealthy family lived for many years at. The guide told me it is haunted but he has not had any experiences and figured out that Mackay was a pretty decent man. He sounded like the type of guy that Id befriended if I lived during those times because he lived for adventure he was not snobbish and he really had good taste. Allot of the mansion has red interior that includes the velvet couches and chairs.
 
We would finish up our investigation outside of the mansion we walked the grounds. We were told that many of the chickens were recent victims of coyotes, cats and dogs. One of the chickens was missing feathers it obvious he barely got away from some sort of predator.
 
We spent sometime at the gazebo we also looked around the grounds at some of the old wagon wheels and relics of the past. I mean there is just so much to see and absorb it really was a wonderful time. There is also a sketch of the miners on a log flume ride one that went 28 miles they took from the top of Tahoe to the Carson River the guide told us they held the water slide title lol. Id say that would have been one hell of a ride the flumes were used back in the day to haul trees from the high sierras down to the valley to be used in the mines and construction of the mills. Also the building material of most of Virginia Cities structures.
 
Tammy and I went to leave the mansion we ended up getting stuck on a sheet of ice. One of the residents who lives at the mansion helped me out. He pulled out a breaker bar and he also helped me push. People do live in the mansion at least a section of it built on to the side of the home. If it were not for them we would not be able to go anywhere that included Xmas shopping for my kids.
 
When I do Virginia City around the holidays I wear my Santa Beard and I walk all over downtown waving to the kids. I even stopped at the old jail, shooting gallery, suicide cursed table and had a suicide pint of ale. I was a drunk Santa but that is the whole point of experiencing Virginia City is to do it up. See the historical sites, smoke some bud, hike around, take tours, drink beer at the old saloons and ghost hunt. I also stopped at an old hearse wagon in China Town which is a site I always visit every year for fun.
 
I wanted to thank our guide he is a knowledgeable old timer and I gave him a card to our site. All the people who have shown me around Virginia City are gems good genuine boom town folks who care about the history, legends and ghost the same ways we do. Id take this tour again and again you should to the caretaker has allot of great tales and if your looking to learn this would be it. This is one of the finest mansions in the state of NV I have ever done a ghost hunt at and we bring it to all of you!

Something appears to be captured in the mirror we have no idea why this anomaly appeared or even if its ghostly. I have video and other photos where it shows nothing in the mirror except for this one photo. In addition to this photo make sure you check out the EVP's we captured here some of them are really blatant so when you put them together we can form a conclusion that the property is haunted or at least has some level of ghostly activity.
