The best way to get to Mormon Island is to take a path that takes you up into the ElDorado Hills via bike path. At one time the waters of Folsom Lake ran close to the woods but over the past decade droughts are effecting water levels and much of the remaining woods surrounding the lake are staring to disappear due to urban growth.	When you hike or mountain bike through the hills you will come on over them where you will see the shores of Folsom Lake. Keep in mind that the lake as of Feb. 2014 was 90' to 100' lower this was due to drought and lack of snowfall in the high sierras exposing the gold rush town remnants far below the hills.

Alber pointed out to me that this was an old Spillway of course the boards are gone and it is severely cracked from the elements. The early inhabitants which were miners had redirected the American River into these sleuths which then would be used to harvest the rich gold found along the rivers shoreline.	For nearly 70 years the gold rush town was submerged underwater. Prior to that a fire burnt down most of the settlement. So everything you see or what remains behind is rather co mangled and twisted saturated in a rusty color.

This is just a short clip of a beautiful white crane and some geese up on a hill. Despite the low water levels their are many different birds found along the shoreline of Folsom Lake. However how many of them will be there in future years to come when the water completely vanishes and their is no lake?	When we explored some of the higher sand bars and hills we had gotten quite a few EMF Gauss readings. In theory I think it is plausible to say when the Army Corp Of Engineers began to work on the damn project that they did not manage to find all the grave sites found throughout the settlements which later became submerged leaving the dead to become the forgotten.

This was an area where we had gotten some of our highest paranormal read outs including some of our EVPs found on our paranormal site. If you notice their is allot of shale, broken bricks and other stones that probably at one time served as someones house. It is possible that certain minerals could cause our paranormal equipment to act differently!	At one time this entire dry lake bed was all woods it was the heart of where Bigfoot country use to be. These creatures would come down from the high sierras from the upper American Rivers to perhaps hunt or gather food. When the miners came in they chopped all the forest down and these low waters are creating land bridges to other hills.

The rocks tell a tale about a large city that once existed in where Folsom Lake is today. Some of them are natural others were used to make miner cabins or other businesses. Some of the rocks were used to create messages on the dry lake beds as well.	With all joking aside this is a lovely gesture who ever took the time to put forth this message. You tend to see a few messages on the hill sides that say love or peace etc. I think it is pretty cool but this is the type of thing you will see of an area that sat 70 years underwater.

When the Mormons from Sutters Fort arrived on the banks of the American River they began to cut down these trees for lumber. Today these stumps contain early relics of the town such as bed springs, pieces of metal, glass shards and other artifacts. Imagine if they could talk what would they tell you?	This in an in depth tour of the main town site which sat 70 years submerged under the depths of Folsom Lake. In this very nice piece I talk about the history of the town which had 7 saloons, school, 4 hotels, Dairy Farm, Winery, five merchandise stores, various shops, 3 dry good stores and an express office. The town went from nearly 3000 strong to a few dwindling residents due to a fire burning it down on Mormon Island. Many residents including miners were buried in various settlements during the dam project some of the graves were left to be submerged which is a dark truth. Prior to the Folsom Lake area becoming more urban it did receive some attention from Bigfoot who would come down from the high sierras to gather food here.

You have to be very careful exploring ghost towns in this case one wrong stumble and you could be impaled. Afterall as lake waters began to recede more of the town becomes exposed even basements, ladders and sharp objects.	This area I call the brick yard it contains hundreds of bricks of what could have been a hotel, home or business of some kind. Many of the bricks are embedded in the mud others laying out in the open. It would appear that the town of Mormon Island had brick, wood and stone structures.

It is important to preserve history that is the whole premises behind our Folsom Lake Project. Were here to educate you that yes it is okay to explore the town site but be respectful no metal detecting, treasure hunting, taking artifacts etc. It is these relics of our past that give the town character!	This area has just been recently exposed so it is a bit muddy but their appears to be allot of ruins, foundations and remnants of the past which have been underwater for nearly 70 years. I can imagine if global warming continues to happen that the harbor you see above me will not be able to launch its boats here anymore.

As we start to head south away from the lake their are many mixed feelings left inside of me. I am fascinated by it as much as I am devastated with how poorly it has been treated. Not much remains of the Eldorado Hills and forest which use to heavily surround the southern and eastern lake shore. One thing is for certain these hills at one time were home to a race of giants known as Bigfoot and I was setting off into the wild west on my next big adventure!
