Robb Canyon/Rainbow Ridge Park

Reno NV

When you arrive its pretty shocking to find out that this is more or less not much of a canyon. Granted a creek flows through it there are areas the canyon gets 50' deep but nothing in comparison to actually canyons that have thousand foot cliffs and traverse for miles in this regionn such as the Peavine Mtns.

Rather this canyon starts near a place above the small canyon called Rainbow Ridge Park. On the opposite of the canyon is a bike and walking trail. It might takes you a half of mile if your luck its not very large and most of the canyons floor is full of sage brush People tell me to check it out all the time and so for them I did however I prefer places like the Red House that resides at over 7k up in the sierras in a deep dark forest over a city park surrounded by homes.

I seen allot of jack rabbits and a few exotic birds which would not stay still long enough for me to photograph. But we would start on the eastern edge of the canyon following it westward. At times I would leave the dirt trail and go down near the creek which was flowing but not very much. Therefore allot of green algae can be found in water pools or areas the water is just not moving.

This canyon has a dark story you see in the  70's a serial killer killed four homeless people. Three men and one woman burying them somewhere near where the park is today. Back then the canyon had no housing around it or this park so its a more cent developed area in NW Reno.

I seen allot of kids playing, laughing, a man snake catching, people on bikes and even women jogging. I also seen on a sign that Tammy pointed out that said haunted. Of course there would be you have so many websites about Robb Canyon when technically the portion that is haunted is not even close to Robb Drive.

But its a well known spot it has been on the news and television that still does not make it a haunted site. Allot of kids party here at night screams, objects being thrown, strange noises etc could just be locals chilling or living in the homes on the edge of the canyon.

Sure people have gotten EVP and even some other sorts of evidence but the question is how much of it can be explained? My hope is by visiting here I can cover the rich extensive history of the creek, canyon and the tragedy of the murders that took place here. I heard other stories to about homeless people who hung themselves and just allot of urban legends. The strange tree has been taken down or so they say I found a few older trees growing near the creek.

I kind of was disappointed I expected to hike up into the canyon and look for the strange. Not along it on a bike path with little kids on swings. I realize allot of paranormal groups go out here and some of them really let there imagination take hold based on what others have said.

Therefore ill be fair so the day portion of Robb Canyon is done the night portion I will do when I can find team members because like I said there are ass hats that cause trouble such as gangs, punks, thieves etc and yes they do hold you at gun point and that does not even go without say of the women who been victimized jogging in Reno city parks so I have to be prepared to come back to this place.

At the canyons deepest point it might get a 100' down from the top of the houses that line the top of the canyon. One thing I found strange as that if you look westward following Robb Canyon you can see a huge opening in the Pea Vine Mountains which supposedly contained many mining districts including a ghost town. Although today not much remains this may be a better location to take our journey too in the future.

So really the rumor is Rob Canyon does continue up into the Pea Vines of the sierras in Reno. We shall see I am going to look into maybe hiking back here or offroading so I can find the ghost town and mining sites there. Maybe then I can get the Robb Canyon I really am looking for granted its very scenic from the park of those mountains I want to be in them because I feel there would be more activity ghost wise at the mining sites not so much the park.

I am not saying this is not a haunted site I may have gotten some EVP but my EMF was dead the entire time I had more EMF spikes at the Hebrew Cemetery down the road seriously! Everyone comes here at night but I am going to give our viewers a look at this location during the day with photos and a film because all the other groups do this place at night hoping for thrills. The truth is that if this place is haunted then during the day we should be able to maybe capture some of the homeless who were murdered here right? In theory we shall see if this place holds up to its haunting's or history perhaps a bit of both!

On the way back on my hike I had went down to the creek I found some small paths that led me down there to an area where the water was rushing. Unfortunately I stepped in deep mud my new shoes I had gotten for hiking submerged in mud not even three days old lol. My pants had mud on them to so do not think I am afraid to get dirty if I go back screw the bike trail were hiking right along that muddy creek. Their was a genlemen also catching snakes along the creek although I did not see them I can imagine they need to go since children play in the canyon.

Tammy and I think the place has to much hype there are to many blogs, websites and kids trying to come here to stir up the dead. Some of them litter and party also not investigate. The cops are use to night visitors here therefore they have asked others not to leave littler behind.

Also in the canyon I found an old rusty powerbox pretty cool if you like old rusty things which I do. Other then that I seen litter I also heard allot of noise which makes it harder to look for the strange with so many people around but its important to show you this place during the day and at night. The mountains in the day are scenic you can go a few miles away right up into the national forest and hopefully I can find the ghost town or other historic sites further up into the mountains that might be connected to this canyon. As I know the ancient natives used it as a hunting and travel route for nearly thousands of years so its definitely old!

My experience was very shortlived I just not impressed this is simply to easy of a place just to walk along a bike trail looking for ghosts. Sometimes being a paranormal investigator we know that we have to rock climb, cliff climb, hike, get muddy, explore etc to get to the truth but this place does not offer much of that. It offers a desert creek surrounded by allot of homes and a city park.

Will see in the future what transpires fro this location I may just put an article up and leave it as is. I do not want to ruin peoples fun but its just an easy ghosthunters haven without overstepping boundaries. As a paranormal investigator its those boundaries I step over that allow me to get the things I do on film. So for many other ghost teams most of them stood at the park then declared the place haunted because they heard human activity from nearby homes and probably thought it was ghostly more then likely.

I did not mind the little nature trail it even split off and went up to the park. There was a tunnel but it was full of water and well it goes under the road for awhile but the water is much deeper in it. I do not know the exact location where the murder victims were found if I could find this out it might narrow the investigation down a little to an area we can take readings and EVP's at.

I do not think its a spooky place as a matter in fact being sensitive I felt nothing but peace here. I did not feel ghost or being watched or anything strange as I pushed through mud and brush near some of the trees in the canyon. Will it be the same at night when things quiet down? It might not be sometimes its a right time and place. Maybe if someone were to visit the site the night of the murders that might be interesting.

Despite the canyon being a homeless camp for Reno back in the 70s today its changed its now consumed by city life and you can see to the west through the canyon the expressway. Therefore you can hear the trucks and the vehicles on it so its not a quiet canyon anymore so my eye and bet is going up into those mountains. I have never been up in the sierras of the Reno Valley before or its canyons. They are massive though compared to the Carson Range to the south so who knows what we might find if we were to explore them might be something to get my son on board with this Spring.

Anyhow we left Robb Canyon nothing exciting but I still took film, photos and EVP here. I need more and so ill be keeping an eye out on this site to monitor its activity. I know one thing it is a must type of location to have on our site as many of the locals of Reno know about it and say its one of the most haunted. But in my opinion its one of the most tragic these homeless people struggle to survive only to have there lives cut short because someone does not want them in there city that is sad. So if anything will do this case and get it on our site to remember them.

After Robb Canyon Tammy and I drove to lower Franktown which we been to upper Franktown during our Hobart Reservoir addition to our site. The upper worked with timber while the lower area below the sierras farmed or raised livestock for the Comstock.

I had my eyes dead set on visiting the pioneer cemetery till these six homes put up a gate on there road so you cant even get to the place. Even if you try to walk around the gate you run into everyone's yards or ranch lands some of those ranches were the first in the Washoe Valley region while other homes are new and the owners decided hey lets put a gate up here which anybody can walk around so they myswell leave it open during the day so ghost towning enthusiast can at least visit Franktown Cemetery which contains the lumberman who timbered the Carson Range for the Comstock Lodes Mines. .

No less it was a pretty drive lots of cattle, horses, beautiful snow capped peaks, lush forest and back roads all below the Hobart and rim of the Carson Range. I took some photos of some older ranches those would be used to add to our Hobart addition to our site so others can see that not much of Franktown exist anymore. This really was not an investigation more like doing research to see what was left of this ghost town.

I seen some old ranches, sheds, fencing etc but the cemetery is truly the last historic remnant or earliest one of this town. So after awhile we just drove up into the sierras I smoked a fat bowl in the woods sat back relaxed tried to finish off the day on a good note. I also parked up near where you hike up to the Hobart and trust me its not just a hike its a hell of a climb on foot which we did. To see Franktown driving through its pretty scenic routes was a pretty cool way to finish the day off besides the fact that we were no longer in the city.

Tsmmy and I had free play at our local casino when we nearly had arrived home. We used it and it bought us some candy bars along with two latte's with the money we won. We are not greedy trust me even 20 dollars for us is a win that covers our coffees and gas for the day. All in all we brought you two more great locations and I have hundreds more up my sleeve so expect things to really get going the next two weekends maybe three lots of research trips all the way to serious expeditions.

A sign within the canyon is found with the words haunted across from it as you can see the hype the canyon has gotten has led to the park being defaced.

I did do some birding in Robb Canyon unfortunately due to all the people most of the birds never stay still long enough for you to photograph them. However I did accidentally capture this possible ghostly man up in the tree looking down at me which I really thought was odd. It might just be a fluke or tree bark but no less very strange. When I took this photo I was trying to photograph a Stellar Jay and it flew off thus the picture of just the tree itself.

Brunch before the big investigation if the haunts are good the food is look at them ham steaks!
