The guided tour will take you through the grounds of what was the NV State Orphans Asylum built in the 1870s a fire in 1902 burnt it down. It was renovated and rebuilt as the dormitories were very large Victorian buildings with a cupola. In 1963 it was all taken down and in its places cottages were built leaving behind empty patches of grass where the annexes once stood. Today not much remains but a park in its place an a very old Gymnasium built out of sandstone which dates back to the 1800's.
It looks like since my boys could not get into the gymnasium they made it right outside of it. Remember when we were kids even running and rolling was entertainment. Anyhow this native sandstone building is the oldest on the premises considering all the rest of them were torn down. For years after the orphanage closed the Boys & Girls club utilized this old gym.

One of the only reminders of the old NV State Orphans Asylum is Marker 72 which goes into the history of the grounds. As the orphanage in Virginia City grew the state legislature build this one in Carson City. In 1902 it burnt down was rebuilt and by 1963 not 1863 which I misread due to a distraction cottages were implemented in its place.Eventually the site was used by DCF and most of the history had been erased with the exception of the old stone gymnasium.

As much as id like to blame our hopscotch tirade and contest on being possessed. I was more compelled to show my kids that I still have it in me. Of course they decided to outdo me to show me that not only do they master video games but a game that is three times older then me lol. You will never see anyone complete this course in this fast of a time I was quite taken!

Some cottages had fencing around their entry ways and foyers. We utilized them by locking ourselves in an area where we could partake in cage fights and arm wrestling. If you want a good laugh of some Lord Rick wrestlmania with his kids then this clip will be sure to make you smile. Even though the Orphanage has long since been closed we really learned to utilize the grounds.
This racket and handball court is in fairly deplorable shape however standing on top as if I was refereeing a game gave me a sense that for that moment I was king. Not only that but it overlooks the entire grounds for the orphanage itself. My son Jarrod proposed that instead of using balls we would use pebbles to hit our targets in turned out a tie everyone wins!

Back when I was a kid we had to make up our own events in this case we invented Golf Ball Shot Put, Fence Hurdling and even traditional branch fencing. I have to say that this was the highlight of my adventure utilizing whatever we could find on the grounds to hold our own VERY Special Olympian challenges lol. Although I finished last in hurdling it must had been me to busy producing to give a shit.
Just over 50 years ago these buildings and its asphalt were not existent. As a matter in fact the giant cotton woods you see in this video grew on the old ranch and that is about all that is left to prove it once existed. This exploration runs across the street from the orphanage however its buildings did play some part in it such as the old school which now serves as a center which stores some of the remnants removed from Sunny Acres.

The orphanage offered the orphans an opportunity to get involved with athletics such as tennis, basketball, miniature golf and this fitness station we made use of ourselves. Watch as Jarrod's swings and climbs like a money meanwhile my beer gut prevents me from even doing a few chin ups. Looks like I need to stop getting the munchies late at night lol.
A storm was brewing over the high sierras the skies were dark rain started to come down and our team was wrapping things on up. Our grand finale to our first exploration of the grounds is this driving tour where I offroad through the grounds and along them to show our viewers what Sunny Acres looks like when your mobile. The locals consider the place an eye sore that is why many buildings no longer stand but this my friends is true American History!

This is some video clips from our night investigation of the old NV State Children's Home. Today most of the stone and Victorian structures are gone with an exception to the old gym, cottages and a few other buildings which are now part of a park. Unfortunately the footage is a little dark but it gives you the element of surprise as we visit the various sites with a little bit of parody as my son and I ghost busts the property for our second time on Xmas eve. At the end of a video I integrated some of our apparition and entity photos we captured on this investigation and do hope our viewers enjoy this special night addition of the old orphans asylum.
