More then often my second home is the wilderness and so during my years of living near the high sierras I am always learning about offbeat locations that I can explore. In this case I read about an area that had five lakes all separated by a matter of a few hundred feet within the boundaries of the Granite Chief Wilderness. I have posted a map above for those who want to hike here you will have this great information which will make your hike allot easier perhaps even safer. For those that are viewing the red circles these are the two areas we focused our expedition on which was the Five Lakes and Whiskey Creek region which resides in the NW sector of this expanse.

The lakes reside at about 7400' while you start off your jaunt from the Alpine Meadows Ski Resort making your ascension through Jeffrey Pines and White Firs. The climb itself is rather steep its about 2.5 miles to get to the lakes while if your feeling really adventurous you can leave the five lakes area and head up to Whiskey Creek. The sole purpose of the expedition is to kind of introduce to an area of the sierras we have not worked much with so in a way this was an expedition that was like being a kid in a candy store especially for our team who has great admiration for nature.

Whiskey Creek also contains an old Basque Sheepherders Camp which contains a roofed oven, storage shed and a bunkhouse. It is a historical remote camp unfortunately during expedition one the ranger was turning around hikers due to cubs. So we never really finished our first expedition the way it was meant to be and that is fine. Considering the Desolation Wilderness to the south resides near the Granite Chief Wilderness this region has been home to more Bigfoot strangeness then almost anywhere in North America. Not to mention that this wilderness resides just above the NW region of Lake Tahoe California.

Granite is produced within the volcanic process as its compressed by the heat then expelled or forced out of that volcano. The pyramids were constructed of granite because it is one of the strongest rocks in the world. It is found in abundance within the Granite Chief Wilderness as many peaks are covered in massive amounts of this type of rock while in the forest are rocks the size of Volkswagens. All of them could have either been thrown out from the volcanoes then later moved or broken up from glacier movements in the last ice age which carved out these canyons you currently see.

As you ascend out of the forest you began to come across huckleberry oaks and shrubs. You will see plenty of lizards including some wild flowers which are quite rare which liven up the trail as butterflies are in abundance here. Once you cross into the Granite Chief Wilderness you will enter a Red Fir forest. If you search for wild flowers your going to find mule ears, corn lilies, daisies, asters, paint brush, delphinium, yarrows, lupines and pennyroyals. If you been following my journeys you would see that I been documenting all forms of nature per expedition to log it for scientific purposes. Sometimes all we find is nature other times we find that bigfoot lives among it; however I feel that the Five Lakes region has far to many people such as backpackers for something to remain elusive here. That does not mean this creature does not pass through the area as their is a million places for something to hide in this dense wilderness. A wilderness that we only grazed the NE corner of which does not even compare to its other 25 thousand acres.

In 1984 this region was designated as a wilderness area because of its natural beauty, primitive location, pristine nature and non motorized recreational opportunities. The wilderness area is part of the Tahoe National Forest it borders the NW side of Tahoe while to its south is a sister wilderness area. Although the peaks found within this wilderness are only around 9k the beautiful Pacific Crest Trail cuts right through the heart of this region. In between the peaks are an expanse of beautiful valley meadows and plenty of volcanic rock formations.

Although the lakes are close together keep in mind most of the paths to them are hard to find some are just animal paths others do not lead to the lakes at all. Yes you can get lost as Tammy did find a lost little girl and she only was 100' off the trail so it gets real remote very quickly back here. I have to admit I did hear some tree banging it is possible that my little wilderness jaunt could have stirred up something.

Not to mention the fact that just on the other side to the north of the Granite Chief Wilderness closer to the lakes is Squaw Valley over a ridge. This is the same valley that the Winter Olympics were held in 1961 taking on the name Olympic Valley and Resort. You can see Squaw Valley from one of the peaks we climbed on our first expedition. So our viewers are really getting something special out of this update not so much Bigfoot evidence but you are seeing Bigfoot Country and experience a little bit of what the Olympians seen when they came to this region to compete.

The views of Squaw, Scott, Ward and Twin Peaks dominant the area. To the south one can see the Crystal Mountain Range which serves as a border for the neighboring Desolation Wilderness nearby and the very beautiful Maggie's Peaks. It is extremely primitive afterall their was a hut which was removed and rebuilt elsewhere because the forestry wanted to keep this location as natural as they possibly can. For me going out and performing the best I can every expedition allows me to weed out the less intense bigfoot areas while other regions might contain more evidence that we can follow up on. No less these journeys play a big part of the work we do and they are meant to be shared with the world. That is why we are so thorough with what we do but also give you a birds eye view of the locations we do our research at.

PGS is not just a paranormal group were an adventure group that takes on all sorts of beautiful locations like these so take it all in and always remember to show your support for the hard work that we do. Just like any wilderness their is always many dangerous that lurk like during our first expedition were two momma bears and her cubs just a short distance from that area. I also heard about some large cougars which roam this area as their are many rocky dens found within the granite.

I would not trade the work that we do this area has it all beauty, adventure, history, strangeness, lore and primitive places no man has been to. This is what we work for to experience the things not everyone gets to do by living life not through a TV screen but experiencing it through our explorations. The Five Lakes area can get a bit busy unless you dare enter the wilderness and leave the trail at the lakes. However keep in mind the hike up to the lakes is all private property if you leave the trail itself. I have not figured out why perhaps due to ski resort boundaries no less this allows a creature like Bigfoot to remain hidden out of site because very few people ever cross those borders. I will say that I commend the fact that so many senior citizens hike on this trail its at times challenging and so I really think its a great sight to see others enjoying all that the sierras have to offer particularly in this area. It is the type of place that once you delve deeper into it you really hate leaving to go home.
