Lake Tahoe is an area that was inhabited for many centuries by the Washo Tribe then eventually the early pioneers and miners came to the area to reap its benefits. The Lake Tahoe areas lumber was used as a prime source of lumber to build many of the homes, towns and mines found throughout the area. The lumber could be brought on down into the Carson Valley where then it could be dispersed to places such as Virginia City or the state capital.

Amazingly despite all the logging down in this region the forest has reclaimed the area giving enthusiast like myself the breath taking views you see today. Tahoe perhaps may just be the winter sports capital of the country. Generally the area has snow all year around making it a great place to ski, snowboard, boat, biking, hike and even swim in its cool waters.  But its also a place for celebrities for example Diana Ross and one of the band members from Metallica resides near Tahoe. I have to say I do not blame them its an area that offers allot of beauty and outdoor activities.  Its also one of the most photographed areas of the United States believe it or not as millions visit here yearly.

The name Tahoe derives from Native American Culture which means "Big Water" or "Deep Water" then some scholars claims it means "Water In High Place" or "Edge Of Lake". Regardless of that when the white man came to the area they named this lake a variety of things. For example it was called Sierra Lake, Mountain Lake, Maheon Lake, Tula Tulia and even Lake Bigler to honor the 3rd governor of Ca. The name however Lake Tahoe stuck around for most but no matter the name this is one of the deepest and largest alpine lakes in the world.

When the gold rush occurred many of those miners and pioneers went east ending up around the Tahoe basin region. John Fremont in the 1840's was the first person of European decent to explore this lake. After a flood of pioneers from the west a series of roads, pipelines, flumes and railroads were built to keep up with the demand of local mining towns such as Carson City and Virginia City. As much as 70 million board feet of wood was harvested per year in the region. Millions of gallons of water was also harvested near the lake so that it could travel via pipelines and flumes to nearby towns. The entire native forest that surrounded the lake was eventually cut down till it was bare.

Their were saw mills surrounding the hillsides of the lake which eventually these operations brought in tourism. People would come from all over just to see these sites call it curiosity one word led to another and soon Tahoe experienced a boom. In the later 1800's it became a resort city as the milling stopped and tourist flocked on in. Its kind of what we do visiting all these historic and abandoned sites. Nobody really pays mind to them but once we visit them they become destinations for other adventurers.

In the early 1900's The Tahoe Preserve was established by the federal government which basically set this area aside as the Tahoe National Forest. The area went from horses to steamboats to eventually automobiles. People began to build large estates while others came here to enjoy the cool mountain air during the hot summers. After WWII agriculture and business came to the area. Just as on the NV side there is plazas, businesses, hotels and casinos. It almost is a miniature Las Vegas built right along the east shore of lake. In the 1960's the winter Olympics came to Squaw Valley here which also had allot to do with the boom that took place in the later half of the 1900's.

My interest with Lake Tahoe started many years ago when I read tales about Bigfoot, Lake Monsters and even preserved bodies said to be chained to the bottom of this icy lake. Now I live within minutes of the lake and think to myself every time I am up here how lucky I am and how amazing this location truly is. Despite the thousands of people who live up here surrounding the entire lake is a series of vast mountains most of them are snow capped all year long and the hiking up here is breathtaking. The Paranormal & Ghost Society will be working with this area in years to come and I honestly do not think our viewers will be the least bit disappointed with all the projects we have going on.

Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in North America at 1645ft and the 16th in the entire world. It is about 22 miles long and 12 miles wide. It has around 72 miles of shoreline and I know because I drove one day around the entire lake with my kids. Their is about 190 square miles on the lake itself with many breathtaking bays, inlets and rocky shorelines.

The lake was formed when earthquakes occurred and volcanoes erupted. You had the Carson Range to the east and the Sierra Range to the west. When they ranges shifted up or down it caused the forming of the Lake Tahoe basin which retains the lake. Eventually when snow, ice and glaciers melted it seeped down into the basin it formed the lake. There are today three fault lines underneath Lake Tahoe which could generate a deadly tsunami on the lake since the water has nowhere to go. A lake may not have formed here however in ancient times a natural dam was formed due to erupting volcano's somewhat trapping the water. Glaciers sculptured the land around Lake Tahoe as they moved southward while water ran off the mountains that were formed millions of years ago forming this monolithic lake you see today. Lake Tahoe is fed from over 60 plus tributaries while the nearby Truckee River is its only outlet. If it were not for the river this lake may have been much deeper then what it is today.

There are allot of myths surrounding the lake so it is important to know what is true and what is not. I have spent countless hours reading about the lake and honestly you cannot always believe what you hear. Some of the myths behind the lake are half truths so lets talk a bit about them.

First off the rumor that Lake Tahoe has not been mapped out this is false although very few been to the bottom in 2003 a survey was done of the bottom using sonar. I do not believe anything strange was found however algae was discovered growing at its dark depths and tree stumps were found off of Glenbrook meaning that this lake at one time may have been much more shallow over a century ago when the loggers came to the area.

The rumor about preserved dead bodies being found at the bottom is just that a myth. Their is no concrete evidence to support this claim which others claim Jaques Cousteau stated. These are mere words put in another mans mouth about how he did an expedition and stated that what is down at the bottom of the lake is horrifying. It is true that the mafia and other murderers dumped bodies in the lake years ago. However due despite the frigid temperatures here between the large fish, crawfish and bacteria no body would be able to sustain itself for decades without decomposition setting on in. Now it is true that Cousteau's grandson Phillip in April of 2002 visited the bottom however this quote "The World Is Not Ready For What Is Down There" is over exaggerated. More then likely if any bodies are ever retrieved from this lake they would probably be skeletons that are laying on the bottom. Those might includes those from the Washo tribe or possible a Chinese woodcutter. I do not find it impossible that bodies are down at the bottom however if there are the world needs to know. It is possible with the lack of oxygen and cold temps that a body could stay preserved longer then other lakes but eventually nature would consume it back into the earth. On occasion Phillip visits the Lake Tahoe area to do lectures I would definitely be interested in talking with him in the future as well as anyone else who may have had something strange occur out here. Afterall we are a paranormal site so explorations and investigations is what we religiously do.

Although allot of the locals claim their is an underwater graveyard of old mobsters suspended at the bottom the only truth to all of this is that once a body sinks to the bottom it may never rise again. This could be due to the fact that the gases are not released or it might just be that a few unlucky victims spent there last moments in a pair of concrete shoes.

The bottomless myth was started by a journalist in NV and politician named Sam Davis who made claims that there was a hole in the bottom of the lake that connected to the Comstock Lode. This may have been theorized based on the fact that many of the mines in the Comstock faced flooding. The story went onto to say that his partner was murdered at Lake Tahoe and later was found inside one the Comstock Mines called Savage Sump. That goes with all the tales shared overtime of bodies rising to the surface at Pyramid Lake. Some theorize that this hole connects to the lake via underground river. However when looking at all the facts Tahoe drains into the Truckee River thus which drains into Pyramid Lake so its possible the bodies were just carried downstream. The fact is the lake isn't bottomless however it is fact that there probably are some underwater caves. Afterall volcanoes once surrounded the sierras and some of them have some pretty intricate lava tubes or what we call today caverns.

Despite all these myths it is a fact that at the bottom of Tahoe "The Comet" and the S.S. Tahoe did sink in this lake. Some divers have gone down to check out the S.S. Tahoe which only sits about 300ft down. Of course very few are not afraid to swim in the lake however very few are afraid to swim out in the deeper areas. I had a friend tell me who swam out in the middle of the lake that its one of the scariest things to experience. You almost feel as if something at anytime could swim up and swim off with you down to its dark depths. It might be just a feeling however I have learned that something feelings turn out to be true. Although the beaches during the summer are packed as others swim in its crystal clear waters I would not recommend going to far out into the deep.

Then we get to Tessie a cousin of the Nessie or as some call it the Lochness Monster. My main interest with this lake is the cryptid that has been seen here for over a century. I am certain the Washo people believed in this creature and I heard they offered sacrifices to it up at a place called Cave Rock which is a location that we explored and visited.

Lets look at the fact the only other thing that might be large in this lake are its sturgeon which rarely ever come to the surface and can grow over 10' in length. I remember an episode of River Monsters which I am a fan of and Jeremy Wade called these creatures dinosaurs. Maybe this is what is lurking within this lake after all we are open to all possibilities. But then when you look at the local Indian legends and the fact that each year almost a dozen sightings occur it leaves you speculating that perhaps it is not a sturgeon considering all the reports describe a 60' long serpent like creature. Although sturgeon get large it is a fact that they do not get sixty plus feet.

So since we can almost weed out the Sturgeon theory their are other possibilities of it being Plesiosaur, Ichthyosaur or a Mosasaur that survived. I would not say its out of the realm of possibility considering that at the top of some mountain tops fossils of these creatures have been discovered which includes the ghost town of Berlin which I toured the entire fossilized remains of an Ichthyosaur which looks like a giant whale. Other experts say that the lake was formed in the last ice age long after these creatures went extinct so it is not possible. But since most of this area at one time was underwater their is evidence to show these creatures once swam right over the very lakes I now hike around. Others feel that this is not anything prehistoric but rather a very large undiscovered eel nonetheless getting in the water with such a creature may not be the best idea.

Although sightings have continued since the 1800's there are a few famous ones that ring a bell. For example in the 1950's two police officers who were off duty reported seeing a black hump rise out of the water and keeping up with the 60mph speed of their boat. Just as in 2004 a bartender photographed a black hump taken out over the lake from the Tahoe Queen a restored steamboat that holds dinner parties, dances and live entertainment. I have also read stories of of others seeing this creature chasing schools of fish causing them to rapidly jump out of the water.

Then there is the question of why it has not been found yet well its a large body of water with allot of underground nooks and crannies. Even though the lake was composed of a basin others forget that in that basin are hills....rock formations....canyons and such. This creature could spend years remaining elusive by staying at the bottom and nobody would ever know a thing. Even if you had sonar it still would not detect a creature living in an underwater cave. We have to take into considering that lake monsters are said to have been sighted all over the world. For example Lake Champlain's " Champ, Lake Erie's "Bessie, Lake Okanagan's "Ogopogo", Chesapeake Bay's "Chessie", Lake Windemere's "Bownessie" and so many more I could name.

Aside from all of this Bigfoot sightings surrounding Tahoe have taken place for over a century as well leaving this lake to be named one of the top crytid viewing spots in the country. Surrounding Lake Tahoe are many smaller alpine lakes all which have had some amount of Bigfoot Sightings to have taken place in the region. I would not rule Sasquatch out considering Tahoe borders a vast wilderness from every angle.  There are places in this region that nobody has stepped foot on in centuries so with that in mind who knows what paranormal secrets lay awaiting to be discovered here.

Although these myths are fun and intriguing one thing is for certain is that its the mysteries that keep others including myself searching. You never know what you might find or see as sightings are rare yet random events. We have to be careful what we say is real and not real. The first time I visited Tahoe their was these black rocks that would only appear between a few waves. At first I thought I was filming Tessie's humps only to examine the humps further to find out they were just smooth rocks. So its hard to say what reports are genuine and what are over exaggerations. Whether or not this is a real creature strange sightings continue to take place up in the region and our team will be right there to investigate it!

According to Washoe legends and lore their appears to be allot of strange phenemona when it comes to the Lake Tahoe region. I quoted this from the website I am sure our paranormal enthusiast will really find this intriguing.

Washoe legends tell of several creatures that have special powers and lived in the Washoe territory. “Water Babies” inhabited all bodies of water, and are very powerful, sometimes causing illness or death to a person, but could also be a good omen. Washoe healers visited the sacred Cave Rock where Water Babies lived, to consult with them, bring offerings of respect, and to renew powers.

There was also a man-eating giant that lived in another cave near Cave Rock that preyed on people that were neglecting their duty.

There was a giant man-eating 10 bird named Ong that nested in the middle of Lake Tahoe. Ongwas so large and so powerful that his wing beats could bend the trees when he flew near shore. The legend tells Ong the monster bird of Lake Tahoe. By Richard Servilican that one day a Washoe man was snatched up by Ongand taken to his nest. Luckily, the Washoe was not eaten right away because Onghad another person to eat. The Washoe watched the giant bird eat and noticed that it closed its eyes to chew. The Washoe got an idea. Every time the bird closed its eyes he threw several arrowheads into its open mouth. By nightfall Ongwas very sick. A storm raged through the night, but by morning the monster was dead. The Washoe plucked out one of its massive feathers and used it as a boat to reach the shore. The Washoe say that Ong’s nest remains in Lake Tahoe submerged out of sight.

Tahoe apears to have a long history of strange happenings places like Jobs Peak, Genoa Summit, Kings Canyon, Slide Mountain, Maggies Peak & Cascade Canyon, Flume Trail & Marlette Lake, Emerald Bay, Hobart Reservoir & Red House, Flume Trail & Marlette Lake, Hobart Reservoir and Franktown, Five Lakes Granite Chief Wilderness, Cave Rock, Desolation Wilderness, D.L. Bliss's State Park & Rubicon Trail and even Mt. Tallac appear to be places we have found evidence of the strange which surround this lake. That includes UFOs since a portion of the lake resides in the Sierra Triangle while even our own group has caught UFOs on film over the North side of the lake signifying there might be a USO/UFO alien base at the bottom of its depths so make sure you watch the video below on this page. No matter what beauty can be deceptive and perhaps beyond its crystal clear waters lies an entire different world hidden from the eyes of man or that once was. So please make sure you take the time to watch this video below which validates this fact.

**Watch ONLY on Full Screen or via HD Televisions in a darker setting**

The documentary and compelling footage you are about to see transpired from an incident that occurred from atop of Slide Mountain as heavy fog rolled in from the North Lake Tahoe region around Crystal and Carnelian Bays the deepest parts within this body of water. We highly recommend you watch the video either on an HD television with youtube compatibility or you view it on full screen via youtube. Keep in mind we filmed these objects at over a distance of 14 miles away through a thick layer of fog consuming the Tahoe basin.

The story behind this footage is rather simple a very large gold object rose out of the waters to the NW of Lake Tahoe. It was so bright it blinded me I took the photo only to see it quickly power down break apart in multiple pieces one of them propelled itself thousands of miles of hours through the clouds while smaller portions remained behind scouting the area around Stateline peninsula. This is some of the only UFO footage in the world that does show objects teetering between to regions/states at the very same time one being Nevada on one side this peninsula the other side being California on the other side. Thus the footage is one of a kind and the objects do appear to have an objective as some ascend and descend.

Some of the objects are hard to see but they do flash, strobe and appear randomly over water, trees while others appear to have landed in the woods themselves.  As I continue to film the objects the last few minutes of this film intensify in brightness and the lengths of time they seem to appear.

In theory people with a trained eye perhaps a good UFOLOGIST understands that what we captured here is a very special event and what it is we have here so refrain from rudeness and use this footage to learn about how the inner workings of technologically advanced craft. I referred to it as a UFO battalion because if you closely watch the objects some appear, disappear while others move at such great speeds they can appear within a second or two miles apart.

I have included still enhanced images of the objects within the documentary by darkening the objects so that their luminosity could be enhanced prior or after each sighting throughout the video however I did not do this for every object so can you spot all of them?

At the time I filmed this video I did it blindly although I could see the objects flashing, hovering and moving around but in my view finder to my cam they just were not showing up. I was extremely shocked to bring home the footage to actually see we did capture them. This video is better to be watched in a dark room you are more then welcome to download it, scrutinize it and come to your own conclusion.

I believe in theory that what I witnessed is a USO that had risen out of the water then eventually transformed itself into a UFO. It is hard to say what the smaller probes, drones or craft are doing. Could it be possible their is an alien base deep below the depths of Lake Tahoe? YOU DECIDE!

This event was witnessed by four of us which just confirms and backs up our story as to what we are witnessing. Just after the event a strong military presence was found in Tahoe we believe the two are connected somehow.

The highlight of this UFO footage is at the 16:58 time stamp where you see one object to the left strobing, second object in the woods to the right and a third object flashing above the trees on the peninsula. These objects are at least 15 times smaller then the original ship that ascended out of Carnelian Bay.

The early Washoe tribe once dealt with powerful creatures at Lake Tahoe they called the "Water Babies" who were said to cause death and illness. Some said it was a good omen to see them or was it when you seen there craft?  They came from the depths of Tahoe much like the object did. What the ancients seen as power we see in this video advanced technology caught on film. I believe that we have linked the connections to the legends to these objects you see in the film in theory our research has
paved an entirely new way of how our past connects with our future!

Scientist to plunge to floor of Lake Tahoe

The deepest depths of Lake Tahoe may soon be seen for the first time.

Tahoe Deep Blue -- a project involving a scientist, deep water explorer and a videographer -- aims to take a remote operated vehicle 1,645 feet to the bottom of Lake Tahoe in October.

What sits at the bottom of the lake is anybody's guess. At the very least the Tahoe Deep Blue team knows an old steamer, the S.S. Tahoe, sits 300 feet down 1 mile out from Glenbrook Bay. They also believe another steamer, the Comet, was scuttled in the middle of the lake.

But are the bodies of mobsters at the bottom, their feet encased in cement? Or is there a once Virginia City-bound stagecoach somewhere in the lake? Stories abound about what the frigid tomb of Tahoe contains.

"With all the crawfish in Tahoe I don't think we'll find bodies, but you never know," said Charles Goldman, a University of California, Davis professor who founded the Tahoe Research Group. "This unit is by far the most sophisticated I know of in terms of deep exploration. It's equivalent to the kind they used on Titanic."

The exploration project, a nonprofit venture, is scheduled to last about three weeks and happen in the fall when tourist numbers are down and the clarity of Tahoe tends to increase because there is less algae.

The project is estimated to cost about $250,000. Mike Conway, co-owner of K-MTN television at South Lake Tahoe, is in the process of tracking down people interested in financing Tahoe Deep Blue. He will also be in charge of videography.

"A group out of Silicon Valley is coming up (Tuesday)," Conway said. "They may toss in some large amounts (of money). A couple of billionaires have taken some letters of intent already."

Tahoe Deep Blue may become a reality in 2003 because the owner of Deep Seas Systems, Christopher Nicholson, recently became the sole owner of the remote operated vehicle, called a Max Rover, to be used for the project. It is worth about $1.4 million and is equipped with sonar that can detect wood and metal within 1,000 feet.

"It hits metal and it rings like a bell," said Nicholson, who used a remote operated vehicle to shoot video of the S.S. Tahoe in 1994. "The hope is that we can go out and locate unique and interesting sites and come back with an HDTV camera system on an underwater vehicle. That's like being there, looking through a pane of glass."

In 1979, Goldman went down 1,000 feet into Lake Tahoe in a submersible craft near Incline Village.

"It was quite exciting," Goldman said. "We made important discoveries -- that algae can grow in an area one presumed to be in complete darkness."

Goldman says in October he hopes to use the Max Rover to study fault lines in the lake, a landslide that took a chunk out of the West Shore and learn more about the movement of sediment particles.

Goldman said it is just a rumor that Jacques Cousteau, the famous underwater explorer, has been beneath the surface of Lake Tahoe. But a relative of Cousteau's did visit the lake at one point, Goldman said.

Dark shapes in the lake: Tahoe Tessie legend remains alive for visitors

TAHOE CITY - Each report of a Tahoe Tessie sighting adds to the mythology of the lake's legendary creature.

The legend is so prevalent that Beth Douglas, of Sacramento, thought Tessie sightings happen every day in Tahoe.

That's why Douglas didn't blink at her friend Ron Talmage's reaction last Friday afternoon to a dark shape undulating at the lake's surface about 100 yards off Tahoe Park Beach.

"Does that look solid to you?" Talmage, of Rocklin, said to Douglas.

When Douglas replied that the shape - with three to five humps along its back - did look solid, Talmage flatly said "Damn, that's Tessie."

"It was so cool," Douglas added. "The way he said it was so calm, I thought it (the Tessie sighting) was an everyday occurrence."

What Talmage and Douglas described was the subject of a talk - "USOs: Unidentified Swimming Objects" - in January 2004 by Dr. Charles Goldman of the UC Davis Tahoe Research Group.

At that lecture, sponsored by the Squaw Valley Institute, Goldman spoke of a conference he held 20 years ago at the University of Nevada, Reno on the subject of USOs. A number of scientists there testified they had seen Tahoe Tessie. All Tessie sightings have one thing in common, said Goldman - no one ever sees the head or tail, only dark objects in the water. To illustrate his point, Goldman decided to conduct a number of experiments. He created a photo of "Tessie" by capturing the splash from rocks thrown in the water. Another photo he uses shows what looks like a series of humps in the lake, which in reality are only waves.

Other theories postulate Tessie could be a large sturgeon.

Despite the speculation, Tessie was no less real for Talmage and Douglas.

"There were no big boats (on the water)," Talmage added. "I thought 'Whoa, this sucker's real.'"

No photographic evidence was obtained.

Mysteries of the deep at Lake Tahoe

If you own a small deep-water submarine -- or know some eccentric big-bucks diver who does -- drop me a line. I'd like to borrow the thing.

Once and for all, I'd like to prove or bust the legends or myths that hide in the depths of Lake Tahoe.

The way this idea came about is that I was told another crazy, unverified story this past week about Tahoe's darkest legend of all. As the story goes, a fisherman snagged something for a moment in the deep water just offshore of the South Shore casinos, but it easily broke free. When he reeled up his line, to his shock, on his hook was the top of a human ear.

This might sound crazy, but in the past 25 years, I've heard different versions of this story at least a dozen times. In one account, a fisherman snags up, gets it loose, and reels up a partial hand where two of the fingers had been lopped off Mafia-style. It is a tale passed around called "The Legend of Three-Fingered Tony."

Many have told me that, if you were to take a submarine down 900 feet just off South Shore, you would see hundreds of bodies suspended in the water, preserved perfectly like an underwater wax museum, most wearing clothes from the 1920s, '30s and '40s.

The legend is that this is where the Mafia killers dumped bodies after executions. Some fishermen even call the spot The Grave. At Tahoe, many locals talk as if everybody knows about this, that there are lots of gangsters down there, wearing pinstriped suits, with sneers on their faces and bullet holes in their foreheads.

This makes sense. It has long been verified that Tahoe is a lake that does not give up its dead. That is because the lake is so deep, with an average depth of 989 feet, and so cold, with the temperature hovering just above freezing. So that prevents the creation of gases that would otherwise bloat and float corpses to the surface as in other waters.

This reality brings bizarre possibilities.

Lake Tahoe, as first theorized by the famed geologist Josiah Whitney, was created by a colossal earthquake where a center block of land collapsed between two faults. It might be possible that another massive earthquake here would disrupt the underwater currents and suddenly float all the suspended corpses to the surface at once.

Another possibility is that the bodies will remain submerged for eons of time, just as the woolly mammoths were preserved in glaciers from the last ice age 14,000 years ago.

Even famed oceanographer Jacques Cousteau is said to have had a brush with something horrific in a deepwater dive in the mid-1970s. "The world isn't ready for what was down there," is the quote most commonly credited. Cousteau never released any photographs or data from the dive, adding to the mystery and legend.

Some believe Cousteau was talking about a Loch Ness monster-like creature that locals call "Tahoe Tessie." Unlikely. But if I could get a loaner sub, maybe I could find out.

Apart from Tahoe's maximum depth of 1,645 feet, another legend is that there is a hole somewhere on the bottom of the lake that is linked to an underground river system that feeds into Pyramid Lake north of Reno. This would explain how drowning victims at Tahoe have floated up at Pyramid. Or would it? Others say it just means that bodies floated over the spillway at north Tahoe could be carried via the Truckee River to Nevada and Pyramid Lake.

So this past week, I went submarine shopping. I found a personal submarine called the Gemini, "the family submarine," available for $845,000, but it would only go 150 feet deep. Plus, my boss said the paper probably wouldn't spring for it. So I went to EBay to see if a better deal was available. Nope.

A little more searching led to the Phoenix, "a 213-foot personal luxury submarine," but it was priced at $78 million. That's a little on the high side.

A Bay Area engineer, Graham Hawkes of San Anselmo, has invented a glider- like submarine that he says is certified to 1,600 feet deep. This could be ideal for Tahoe, but the price is well over $1 million. So I contacted his agency on Friday and suggested Hawkes take me on a demo dive at Tahoe. Together we could solve the legend of Tahoe.

Famous sightings included:

  • San Francisco Chronicle on July 12, 1984, when the paper reported that two women had seen the Lake Tahoe leviathan a month earlier. Tahoe City residents Patsy McKay and Diane Stavarakas were hiking above the west shore when they spotted the creature swimming in the lake. McKay said the beast was about 17 feet long. She watched it closely and saw it surface three times “like a little submarine.” Her companion said that the creature had a humped back, and seemed to surface in a whale-like, lethargic manner. She was also sure that it wasn’t a diver, a log, or a large ripple.
  • June 1982 - a pair of off-duty Reno policemen had also taken a turn with Tessie. Officers Kris Beebe and Jerry Jones were water-skiing in the lake, when an “unusually large” creature swam by them.
  • Mid-80s during a filming of a commercial shoot at Zephyr Cove on the Nevada side of the lake. Where it was spotted by the director Mike Conway and kids. Described as a brown humped beast that caused a wake during the filming.
  • In the Mid-1970s - The Famous oceanographer Jacques Cousteau brought a mini-submarine to the lake, and did several dives in search of the 1,600-foot bottom. He returned to the surface allegedly saying, “The world isn’t ready for what is down there,” and to his death refused to release any pictures or data from the expedition.
Lake Tahoe is also called the graveyard - According to local legend, the 900-foot-deep waters off South ShoreUnderground River: it is believed by some an underground river connects Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake. Some legends describe it as a hole and is located in Carnelian Bay.

Lake Tahoe - is california's largest freshwater lake and one of the deepest in america. A Tahoe Tessie Museum and phone hotline for sightings have been established in Kings Beach on the north shore of the lake. served as a dumping place for Mob victims from the 1920s to the 1950s. Hundreds of gangsters’ corpses are suspended in the depths, they say, preserved from decay and prevented from gas-bloated surfacing by the near-freezing deep waters. So pervasive is this tale that many local fishermen refer to the area as “The Graveyard,” and a Tahoe-boat Mafia execution was featured in the climax of The Godfather Part II.
