Off roading to Tempiute Ghost town and mine. Its in Alien country...roads very dark...lots of rocks...and holes....to the sides of us are foundations....and then up ahead is the mine which is a good 1 mile hike in the middle of a canyon. Its a spooky place.

Standing at the entrance of Tempiute Mine its dark but I am using it for the audio as I am interviewing before we enter into this unknown mine. The mine takes a strange twist as it goes very very deep felt like it was endless as we climbed, crawled, and made our way to the final chambers. Its not a great video but you can put some imagination to the suspense as we are in the middle of seclusion standing at this entrance to a hole on the side of a mountain.

 

 

This is a massive mine in fact years ago back in 2008 we did the hike in and explored most of the mine. Even though there is easily over a mile of tunnels I explored I later found out about a giant shaft explorers like to repel down in Tempiute Mountain. We were not equipped for that but we did enter the silver tunnels. Along the hike there was some stone miner cabins and a very large debris field of rusty cans. I hurt myself on this trek slid and fell alone the mine dump. This is a cool place its close to Groom Lake so great for UFO watching. The lost tapes were from my 8mm film I had digitized and I forgot about having the footage as short as it is so I figured id share it with all of you. Silver was first discovered in the area in 1865. In 1868, additional silver lodes were found near the settlement. A mining district was established, but mining was difficult, due to insufficient water supplies. Water had to be transported by mules from springs, 12 miles (19 km) away. The settlement had a population of fifty miners in 1870. When the stamp-mill in nearby Crescent was shut down in 1871, mining in Tempiute was abandoned.[2] The post office was named Tem Piute from February 1879 until January 1881 and then again from June 1882 until January 1883. Tungsten ore was discovered nearby in 1916, but large-scale mining did not begin for another twenty years. The Lincoln Mines Company initiated mining operations in Tempiute in 1940, after building a mill. The mines were productive until the end of World War II, but declined in the next five years. After the price of tungsten rose in 1950, the mining camp was reestablished when the Wah Chang Trading Company, a New York-based tungsten importer and trading company, incorporated the entire mining district as the Black Rock Mining Company.[4] From 1950—1956, Tempiute had a population of 700, and a school. The post Office was opened as Tempiute in February 1953 and closed in October 1957.[3] During its most productive years, the Lincoln mine was one of the nation's primary producers of tungsten. When the price of tungsten declined in 1957, the mill was closed and the town was soon abandoned.
