This limestone quarry belongs to one of the cement plants located adjacent across the Stanislaus River just down the road. Such plants and quarries are extremely common surrounding the Vallecito region. The region was referred to as "Murphy's Old Diggings" in 1849's when the Murphy Brothers mined the region for gold. They eventually moved on just a few miles down the road to what is known as the town of Murphy's today. I guess the brothers did not find the Vallecito region to be profitable so when the moved on other miners moved on in. The name Vallecito means "Little Valley" in Spanish!

In 1852 rich gold deposits were discovered here fairly close to the center of town. On the outskirts of town their were many limestone cliffs which also later we used in the production of concrete. Such concrete could be used to build up many of the local towns of Sonora, Angels Camp and Vallecito. In 1854 a post office was established and believe it or not it still operates today.

The town was originally called Vallicita and later it was changed to Vallecito in 1940. They also had an old bell that was cast at Troy NY in 1853 which was purchased from a ship with funds and contributions from the towns folk. They would hang it on a large oak tree which would be used to gather the settlers. In 1939 severe winds blew the old tree down.

The region that surrounds such quarries such as the one you see in the photos throughout our updates was once home to the Miwok Indians. Its a very scenic, secluded and woodsy area in the lower sierras of the Californian side. When the gold ran out allot of the immigrants worked at mining limestone which would be used to produce cement. Such cement today can be seen all over smaller towns in the region.

This quarry once houses buildings and other structures today its merely used for locals to hike down into the pit just to shoot of their guns. It is three tiers high with the upper tier overlooking the Stanislaus River. The cement plant is also visible from the cliffs which can be very dangerous so if you decide to go stay away stay alive trust me the entire place is crumbling.

My entire reasoning behind visiting the quarry was to investigate the plant which turned out to not be so abandoned so instead we decided to climb down into the pit and bring you a rather scenic exploration. Life is much different up and around Vallecito as the cattle roam free and their are areas around here man has never even set foot on seriously./ Which makes it the element of surprise when it comes to dealing with any paranormal in the region. This region has actually been plagued over the years by strange flying triangles and being how secluded of an area it is I definitely was hoping to catch a glimpse of one.

If I didn't catch a glimpse of something strange I knew that I would enjoy the stellar views of the river and woodsy mountains that grace the area. Quarries like these are a reminder of what once was. They are often said to be paranormal hotspots just as places where people go to commit acts of sin. We wanted to give our viewers a taste of something new and refreshing. No matter where we go or what it is we are exploring their is always something unique we can share with our fans.
