Old Iron Town

This place actually sits on the other side of the mountains of Silver Reef although a good 50 mile run as I went further up into Utah. Its strange but their was hardly anybody out on the highway and the evening hours were starting to kick on in.

The boys wanted to go swimming after this so I could not waste time had to get here and get them back to the hotel prior to the pool being closed.

It was a nice ride up here very scenic as we followed the entire mountain range to our left. One area had a mountain that looked like a stack of disorderly pancakes.

We pulled down a road for a few miles into a valley nothing out here but a few big homes on the hill sides. When we pulled up to the gates of old Iron Town you could see a giant charcoal kiln.

To our right was also a lake which on the backside of the town has a creek that drains into it. Their are some pit mines from where the ore was extracted. Even some of the mountains had a very irony type of color to them.

Within the town we found a grinder.....chimney.....kiln ruins....and a few other foundations. The site is well maintained with descriptions and plaques. Their is many little trails allot of nature and a small wooded area that is fenced in.

Its the type of place you can let the kids loose to go play and while Tammy used the restroom I was inside one of the kilns. We were the only ones up here the weather was much more chilly. It was very quiet here their were ducks on the lake it was nice here.

I did not find the rails that ran up near the town but it had them at one time. I did take the kids into the woods on some small nature trails. Their was some odd little hills of rock surrounded by trees. I sat on a log to relax for awhile we sent the kids on a hunt to find these fruits growing on some brush.

Of course my kids ate some of the fruits my one son said it tasted like sugar. I took a photo of the fruit not sure what it is really but everything within Iron Town is fairly safe and kid friendly. I just expected to see people here it was nice to just sit on some of the foundations by the lake and enjoy the sun starting to set.

I thought this was a really great exploration if anything some of you will enjoy the photos and learn about this little treasure up in the UT mountains. Their also was some iron bin of some kid.....and remains of a small stone cabin.

We spent awhile here then I had about a 60 mile drive back to the hotel. I did make it in time to get the kids swimming. They had a blast diving in the water together......but then when they got out they ran to our room prancing everytime the wind blew lol.

It was a pretty nice time first time I ever visited a charcoal kiln in the middle of nowhere. I had to get ready after pool time to tour Saint George a very pretty historic city in southern UT.

Although some paranormal groups would say this green glow is something of the supernatural instead let me give our viewers a very important part of advice when ghost hunting. Taking photos into the sun can cause light refraction. In this case one can see the rays of the sun which represent narrow bands of light. If you study the green glow which we have at many times soon one can see the same pattern of light rays. The refracted color may be green as opposed to the white light the sun is directly giving on off. Never take photos in the sun also ladies enjoy the flowers Tammy picked them lol.
