The Crystal Basin was formed by many active volcanoes millions of years ago. Eventually during the last ice age glaciers carved out its basins leaving behind over 100 lakes in what today is part of the Desolation Wilderness in the Eldorado National Forest. At one time the Maidu, Miwoks and Washo traded with one another as they peacefully thrived in this basin which is over 64,000 acres of rugged wilderness. Eventually when the Europeans arrived they used this basin for dairy cattle to grave in its high meadows. Eventually many of those meadows were turned into reservoirs and the dams were used to create hydro electricity for the city of Sacramento. Today this basin contains many historical sites, streams, lakes, rivers and is home to the famous Rubicon Trail. Our journey will take us through the heart of the Crystal Basin all the way to Loon Lake one of the most prestigious bodies of water found in the region which is overshadowed by Devils Peak the very beast we would conquer. - -	Located at the top of Robb Peak at nearly 7k this is one of the most beautiful vista points in the heart of the Crystal Basin. The peak contains a cabin where often people will rent to camp up here. Between the butterflies and great views our first journey above the basin will take us down a narrow forested road. Eventually we will summit Robb Peak which overlooks the entire region therefore you will nothing but 360 degrees including an old fire tower which has been in operation since the 1930's. After our journey at the top of Robb Peak we meet up with Christina George with P.P.R.S. and park up at the top of Loon Dam near the entrance to the historic Rubicon Trail. This jeep trail has been in use since ancient times first by the natives then stage coaches and in the 1950's became a popular road for four wheeling extremist. People come from all over the world to journey on this trail to see some of the Crystal Basins best kept gems. What would we encounter tomorrow as the sun was setting we were ready to conquer it all! The sun would go down we would share some campfire tales and hope tomorrow would bring something stellar!

In the mid 1800's when ranchers first came to the area they called what is now known today as Loon Lake by the names of Lake Bisbee, Horseshoe, Bigsby, Pleasant and Bixley Lakes. When other reservoirs were built in the region this lake was expanded and two dams were built in the 1960's. Our journey would take us along the primitive shoreline where we captured an odd vocalization and smelled a fowl odor. We also filmed a strange phenomena in the clouds of a chemtrail that looks like a spinal cord as it enters a cloud and disappears with no object present. Most of our journey would take us along the primitive shoreline of old Lake Bisbee which views of Guide and Devils Peak off in distance. We would also push through the cool waters which would eventually put us right onto the Rubicon Trail north of the lake. We were on our way to journeying to the summit of Devils Peak! What did we witness on this blazing summer day and what would we find on our quest for the truth?	The Rubicon Trail each year is visited by offroad extremist worldwide. In ancient times it was a trading route for the Miwok, Washo and Maidu tribes who settled in the basin to hunt, fish and gather. The trail eventually was used as a stage route which led from Georgetown to the Tahoma in Lake Tahoe. We were happy to be journeying along this historic route and along the way we made many friends with jeepers like ourselves. The Rubicon is full of challenges such as massive boulders, granite shelves, pools of water and rugged terrain which travels over 20 miles in the Crystal Basin back country. Offroaders have been adventuring on this trail since WWII however the first automobile physically took on this trail in 1908 from then on it became a Mecca for outdoor enthusiast whether it was by vehicle or on foot. Our goal was to take the Rubicon on foot till we stood in front of Devils Peak more or less an extinct volcano with no trails other then the will to climb along its rugged cliffs.

Devils Peak stands at about 6'600' in elevation as it took on the name of the Crystal Basin which in the 1800's was called Devil's Valley. The peak is very primitive their are no trails and the Rubicon Historic Trail does skirt around the bottom of the mountains rugged 500' cliffs. Their are allot of strange tales surrounding this peak although it was not named after hell but rather because today it is an extinct volcano or rather volcanic vent that at one time had erupted massively bringing an inferno below which is known as Loon Lake today. The peak is full of heavy foliage although as you get to the summit its rather bare except for a small clearing near the summit surrounded by woods where we had a bigfoot encounter at. From the peaks summit one can take in great views of Pyramid Peak, Rockbound, Buck Island, Spider and Loon Lake. Also behind the peak is great views of Guide Peak and a massive canyon where the Rubicon River flows. This peak has some of the best views and vista points of the region. I clipped together portions of our climb and our descent it was not an easy trek but no less it felt like a victory to have reached the top where we would have dinner and I would drink ale on top of the world! If your looking for a bigfoot hotspot that involves rock scrambling, remoteness and great views then I give this peak a 10!	This small clip is nothing special just journeying alone at night in the Eldorado Forest near Loon Lake. As you can see the forest here is very overgrown many trees are down and rocks are everywhere brought here by glaciers in the last ice age. It is important to investigate at dusk if you are looking for these Bigfoot like creatures being that the species tend to be nocturnal. I did not do allot of filming because even with a good light its pitch black and this forest is quite easy to get lost in especially when your not on any trails like me. What did I experience at night while hiking in the forest? I seen two large eyes shine back at me that were taller then me peering out from a tree and I had a stone thrown at me. Was it Bigfoot? I do not know maybe something followed me from Devil's Peak could it have been the same creature I encountered near the summit? The Crystal Basin is full of strange happenings and stories about Bigfoot anything could be lurking in the darkness! Would I dare to find out? This night expedition was a great way to end our day on the Rubicon and Devils Peak. Although exhaustion was truly setting in I had gotten to experience something not everyone gets to do which is to take on the Crystal Basin in the darkness in hopes I would not become one of the missing!

It was our final day in the Crystal Basin at Loon Lake therefore we decided to hit the Rubicon Hiking Trail which graces the western shoreline of the shoreline. My cam had broke therefore I had to use an older model its not the best quality sorry but some film is better then none at all right? By the time this trek would be done we would have completely journeyed around Loon Lake to its entirety. The trek will take us up to the Buck-Loon Tunnel with vista points of old Pleasant Lake which was absorbed into Loon Lake. Eventually climbing up into the Desolation Wilderness on the western flanks of Devils Peak where we would grace the southern shores of Spider Lake which has a very overgrown muddy shoreline where we would search for any strange Bigfoot tracks. It begin to rain so I did not do allot of filming but in between my son skips rocks and even builds a shelter to keep dry. We did meet up with a couple who asked me about Devils Peak did not film that but they were kayaking when it begin to rain. Their are Bigfoot reports back in this area its extremely remote almost to quiet with allot of large rock formations and the woods is very lush. Their is also allot of hidden ponds and to find this lake is a big difficult it is sort of hidden. You can view the lake from the top of Devil's Summit in part 5 of this series!
