Ill explain further in this report. Tammy and I entered this unmarked dirt road as a matter in fact all the roads had no signs period. Our gas was low and as I went deeper into the Searchlight wilderness the fuel light had come on. Based on the mapping all we had to do was find dirt roads that led us towards a mountain range we could see shadowed below the moon. The first mine we would visit would be the Good Hope mine. This actually was just the next hill across from the Duplex Mine we could have probably hiked to it. But we managed to find a dirt road that pulled right on up to the mine pretty nice actually. I was surprised to have found this place its sort of hidden and the road we went down was over grown as brush scraped the car. I noticed the back roads in search light were somewhat rough but fairly well used. Their was only a few giant stones in the road....but the roads were narrow....and constantly went up and down like a roller coaster. I knew we had found a mine area because as I looked out the window I seen concrete foundations.....rusted sheets of metal and debris scattered all around the road. I also noticed some railroad ties on the side of the hill and ruins to a mill. I was very excited about this place perhaps because this was not just a mine but the site where minerals were processed an actual mill site. Tammy and I worked pretty hard to climb to the top of the mill. It was pretty quiet out here and dark. I could see all the stars out and we begin to climb the concrete foundations up the side of the hill. We found the site of a stone cabin or house foundation where the fireplace still stood pretty cool. I climbed along some wood beams made it to the other side while Tammy crawled under all the debris saying she found rat droppings. Rats in the desert are pretty common around mines my buddy seen one bigger then a cat one night and well I see them but not to often. It looked like a bomb hit the mill site their wasn't much left just the concrete....wood and sheet metal. I seen a few rusted cans and TNT boxes. It was pretty fun climbing around the mill ruins. When I reached the top I looked down at Tammy below. She went off exploring on her own just as I did. Their wasn't really much of a paranormal presence here. The mine above the mill was collapsed with wood beams protruding out from it. When I stood on top of it I noticed to sets of concrete foundations which had circular imprints. This probably was the site of the water tanks or towers. Nearby I found part of a water tank all mangled probably from years of wind elements. I also found a small tunnel....pipe line......and another foundation with a fireplace. This area had to be a mining camp. The railroad that once went here didn't last for a long time but it lasted long enough to play a part in the mining that took place here. We did not stay to long but we noticed a washer out near the mill. We noticed allot of appliances out this way as if the locals came out here just to dump their non working washers. There was a road which would have led us to two other mines but the car would not be able to handle it so I figured I would take a better dirt road on in. This just led to the fun even more lol. As we packed it up the temperature really dropped my hands were so cold it was time for a nice hot cup of coffee. We packed it up then away we went off roading. Its a real strange place because the roads back here are maze like and I had a map in my head about what the dirt roads looked like on google. It was obvious that in the desert here were small communities often 10 to 20 trailers but on well used dirt roads while the dirt roads we took we used to stay away from the residences. We took this one dirt road for a few miles it was pretty cool until it crossed a giant pit that's when I had to make a 20 point turn where another road led us to some power house. Past the powerhouse the road split a few different directions again I wanted to head towards the mountains where the mines were located. We took this road for a pretty long time gas was below empty and our luck was running out fast. I drove right up to these giant gates it said no trespassing...this place was a little foreboding. It was surrounding by a giant fence....with trailers...trucks....cars....mining equipment.....parts.....bricks etc. I actually followed the fencing around with the car not even a road really just driving into the desert. We came up on a trailer with large trucks I quickly turned the car around got out of there. The two mines we needed were either still in operation....or on private property....or they were owned by this community/company. Its really hard to say because according to maps the mines were within a 1 mile hike of Good Hope....while this fenced in area doesn't show up on any maps. I do think that its possible that this company still mines the mine we were looking for or we were completely off by a couple miles and ended up here. Ill probably have to come out here during the day so I can hike around because if I am correct their is one hell of a mine back here allot of avid adventurers often explore. Being that some of the roads were washed out....more then likely we got turned around. I spent a good hour just driving down dirt roads in the darkness. On occasion we passed a trailer or two some appeared to be vacant but its hard to say. I had fun off roading back here a few times we hit the bottom of the car while one time we took a wash that looked like a road and well its one of these things if you do not keep the car rolling you will get stuck. I had to abort the search for the other two mines based on the fact we seen mining equipment behind a fence....while one of the roads we probably needed to park on and hike in would be better for a day hike. That is one thing about night hiking for mines they are so damn hard to seen until you are right up on them. Tammy and I at this point were on a race to get to a gas station. We had multiple dirt roads with only one or two ways out to the paved road. If we made one wrong turn......or ended up on another dead end dirt road this would be it we would be out of gas in some not so friendly territory. We did make it out of here though and to a gas station considering we put on almost 20 miles on empty we really lucked out. Rule of thumb never go off roading into the desert without a full tank. Even though our trip would take us a few miles to the hills on a dirt road...we had to take multiple dirt roads just to get there because in the desert some roads become treacherous while other roads lead to trailers in the middle of the desert. I am not greedy if our team stays in Vegas for a bit longer will return to Search Light to bring you guys more mines and historical sites. Here is the scary part of the investigation. I went to turn onto the road we hiked down where we heard that dog barking and growling. Well when we passed by that same house this very large 200lb all black dog started to chase the car. Of course you know me and I thought about grabbing the video camera. This dog was running so fast that when I started to speed up he wasn't letting down. He started to close the gab between him and me. My window was open my arm was hanging out I was chilling. I didn't expect Kujo to get ready to bite my arm off. But the goddamn dog was running showing me his teeth and I swear it on my left nut this dogs right eye was watching me as he was running as I just seen the white around it. Tammy was yelling at me to put the window up and good thing I did because the dog was getting ready to jump in the window. I could see him trying to catch up to my window and getting ready to leap. You have to understand that being a paranormal investigator is dangerous keep in mind that same dog we walked past an hour prior to this incident. At the gas station we picked up some big cups of coffee. The lady who worked at Terribles was really nice probably local to the area. She said hi to me like 5 times while in the gas station. Where else can you get that type of customer service. But seriously we needed that cup of coffee it was getting very cold and Tammy was shivering most of the night. I didn't mind it to much just that my hands were like ice the entire night. We decided to call it a night we were going to head on out to Cottonwood Cove....but I had in my head other plans like perhaps a stop at the Pittsburgh.....and Black Mountain. Those were just extras if we seen them or noticed them along the way.
