I am so sorry that this report is so late never seems to be enough time considering how busy my kids keep me. But last weekend ago I broke in Tammy and took her out to show her what it is The Paranormal & Ghost Society does. I told her we would climb to the top of the Las Vegas Valley. This would be a special place considering their is two like this location in the entire world I felt honored to dig deep into this place.

Tammy and I woke up 6am and headed on off for coffee..doughnuts...then I bought us some food and drinks at the grocery store. We headed on off to the East side of Vegas up towards the French Mountain Range. Its amazing how deceptive these hills are and mountains. One could look at these mountains and say yeah their just a heap of rock. However within the rock lays canyons with trees growing.....caves....valleys and many peaks.

We took a road to our right unfortunately I had mistaken it for the trail.....and we stood right in front of the mountain. I sighted a series of caves to our left. We started to go into a canyon.....and by the minute the climb went from easy to advanced. Originally my plan was to take the trail but it changed quickly as I kept finding more caves. Soon we were a few hundred feet with Vegas facing our backs.

We reached a giant cave entrance or el cove. It was a series of rocks some taller then our waste....some very extreme slants.....at one point we were climbing adjacent to the canyon.....to our left was a cliff...and Tammy and I climbed along side of it......there was no room for error we were so high.

We had to use a switch back routine weaving in and out.....but we made it to our first peak. I could not see past the second peak but I thought that it was our final one based on the fact a few poles.....and some frame sat up on it. At times it was so steep going up the slope we could not see the top. As I looked behind us this would be one of our last views of the Vegas valley for a few hours.

I was taking Tammy and I up the side of the mountain and eventually through them. The climb became very advanced as I cut my own path to the top of the beast. We passed our second peak....and came around the top of it almost.....and slowly I looked off to my right....and spotted a giant canyon around the mountain....and another peak with a series of structures. Tammy thought our trip had ended at the second peak and I pulled her to my side and pointed telling her that is where we are going.

The winds were picking up and although we started our climb off during a gloomy cloudy setting the sun broke loose and was shining in our eyes. Little did I know that in less then an hour that sun would fade and the sky would become very dark. It started to rain down on us......their was a hill we climbed with rock as sharp as glass the same type that cut me up in the sheep mountains a year ago.

When we came around the mountain the climbs we had ahead were advanced....we had to hop to various rocks.....one slip meant a fall that could seriously cause injury....but I took us around another steep canyon just along the edge. We then had a valley to slowly climb down into very steep lose rock at times bigger ones which sometimes rolled to the bottom. I found a copper vain....broke open one of the quartz found pure green copper.

I started to pull ahead of Tammy and I told her I would that way I could map out the safest route. Behind us was this wash....canyon call it what you will but it went for over a mile and was so steep. All we could see is foothills.....behind us as we were working our way into the mountains.

We went down into a valley which took about an hour....and then another hour to climb up to the next peak which we stood on. I spotted off in the distance a very steep dirt trail.....it was horrifying looking as it twisted and turned leading up to the tallest peak on the east side of Vegas.

We climbed some more which took us into a ravine their was plenty of desert life in it and was untouched by man. The canyon took us right to the road which went North...back to the road a bout two miles away and another mile to our right would lead us to the top of French peak.

I explained to Tammy that even though the hike in the mountains was hard work it was worth the photography. I stood in places that are untouched by man. We climbed up to plateaus.....found little caves along the way and to finally see the main trail was refreshing. It would not be to much longer till the sun went down.....the rain was sporadic.

We started our ascension up a road that was so steep.....we had at least a thousand feet to go. It was so steep it was a slow climb. We had almost been hiking for 6 hours just to give you an idea of how much we put into this. We were now back onto doing switch back trails which zig zag inching its way to the top of the peak. Tammy could not go on any further she said her back was giving out and she had blisters.

I felt still pretty good although throughout the trip I had been taking pain medication for my back so I was as high as a kite climbing up this mountain lol. I rubbed Tammy's back.....she said she could not go on and she was in tears. I kept pushing on walking along side of her.......I told her we could do it....we had come to far not to. I did not risk ourselves to come a few hundred feet below the peak.

When we reached the first peak......behind us up a trail was a station with antennas. Then in front of us was a giant level road....that ran along a cliff. The valley was not far off from being exposed. I got excited pulling way ahead of Tammy. I had reached the summit of French Peak. We were here and Tammy was getting excited. I wanted to show her one of the best views in Las Vegas.

When I found this radio station at the peak....I walked along the summits cliff...then up along side of it. Once I reached the backside of it I could not wait to see the view on the backside of the French Mountain range. Off in the distance was Lake Mead......vast desert...and a giant ridge with the earths crust rising up. I held tightly on the fence leaning over filming and taking photos. I was looking at a drop that would kill any man the back of French Peak was nothing but a giant valley, cliff and vast desert. The rush of hanging from the fence leaning over 3200 feet was beautiful.

I then followed the fence back around Tammy was looking at all of Vegas and I met up with her. We had something to eat, drink and I toked one. That is the best reward of all knowing that when you reach the top you can rest and smoke a joint in mother nature. We were higher then the stratosphere tower however Vegas and the valley was covered in fog....rain....and the view was dismal. However the Mormon Temple was directly below us and the houses looked like ants even the biggest mansions. Tammy fell in love with the view and told me Thank you she said to me you were right it is amazing. We seen Sunrise mountain off in the distance.

We spent about a half hour on top of the peak the cold and rain was starting to become harsh. We started to make our descent back down into a valley. We had odds against us the elements....it was getting dark and the trail was so wet that if one of us fell we would roll. I spent the first thousand feet down on my tippy toes. This was not good on my knee considering downward motion causes allot of pressure on my knee causing it to give out. I was feeling it ill say that much. Tammy looked behind us scared told me she see someone on the road I seen nothing. I knew we were the only ones here but I felt watched for awhile.

We had another mountain to go over when I stood on top the darkness was setting in and all I could see for a couple miles away is a tiny curvy road or rather the pass that separates French Mountain and Sunrise Mountain. The switchbacks were killers here very steep down as we would make our descent into the foothills weaving left and right. I had a good light so we were not entirely in the dark but going downhill was worst then any climb we faced all day.

At this point we had been hiking for almost 10 hours and eventually came to the road. We had another mile hike to the car. As originally we were supposed to take this trail and instead made our own along the mountains then up into the range. Basically all we did is one giant circle but off in the distance my light hit the car just right and I knew that I was not far from drinking hot coco....and some warmth.

We were both very tired but we got some great photographs from this exploration and some interesting shots. I made a few movies to all of it will be available on our site down the road for the public. Tammy found a few cool rocks she found on our hike as well.

The drive home was quiet we were both exhausted as we been climbing all day. Its not an easy feat getting to these peaks but it turned out well since during the day we hiked down into canyons and various peaks...while at night we headed down a rocky road down into the hills.

Along the way we found a few odd caves one had clothing in it.....another one way off on some peak looked like a mountain lion was inside. This was the first time Tammy did anything like this really and she did well. She did all the climbs that I set forth for us and well its a good thing she isn't afraid of heights.

Tomorrow I am taking my sons and Tammy to an Indian cave and a cool hiking trip I will have a nice report for that to. So tomorrow ill be gone at least half of the day hiking and doing more explorations. The cave is a few levels deep the kids should have fun exploring it with me and of course will be on the look out for ghost...and strange objects in the sky.

Tammy made me laugh she said to me my definition of almost there is miles afar but also the fact of how are couple hours excursion turned into an entire day lol. That pretty much sums up the trip and it was a blast. Although ill admit I was pretty scratched up on my hands and my knees were helluva allot hurting for a few days after. Definitely a wonderful 3200 foot view above Las Vegas which makes this adventure priceless! The place reminded me of a giant optical illusion such as a trial would look like it was a drop off when in fact it was just a slope. The desert is just that one big mirage hidden with secrets.
