This is a pull off area on the east side of Las Vegas known as the Frenchman Mountains...or as some call it the Sunrise Peak area. We hiked down an old service road....and eventually to the peak through some canyons....steep walls....etc little did I know that this area would turn into a morning till night hike since we followed the road in...then went up and through the mountain range totaling 4000 feet to where the frenchman's peak is located at.

We are almost at our first peak in the Frenchman Mountain range. We went into a canyon and found a mine...but the higher we went the harder the climb as the area we filmed this at was near the edge of a cliff....and a few caves we found in the area some being nearly impossible to reach. Little did I know that after this video we would have 6 more hours of climbing as we only were on the outskirts of this mountain range and had to climb up then over.

This video I took is at the top of Frenchman Peak often mistaken as Sunrise Mountain Peak. I am standing near the edge of a cliff filming lake Mead off in the distance...a basin below....and the 1.7 billion year old rocks where the earths crust actually rises out of the mountain. Their is only two places like this in the world this being one of the two. I know my elevation was off because at the time we had no plans to hike to the highest peak but actually one at 3000 feet however the need for exploration just kicked in and the view from on top was just that stellar.

Most of the hike home was switch back trails and a very rocky road. From where we filmed this we had about 3 to 4 miles back to the car. Again we miscalculated and had no idea how far we hiked throughout the day. The hike back however was very interesting as we could see nothing but miles of mountains as the sun after this went down. Its hard to believe thrill seekers take their vehicles up this very rugged road. This originally was the way we were supposed to hike in as it cuts right through the middle of the range and out to the main road. The winds are kicking up we just left Frenchman's peak of 4056 feet!
