Dutch Flat Chinese Cemetery
 
When we started hiking in the woods we found the site of where old China town resided in Dutch Flat. Of course today their is nothing but old telephone poles, meadows and trees. I took the boys down a hill to this area in the woods which was fenced off its very easy to miss because the cemetery itself is buried in heavy foliage.
 
This area beyond the fence had about 100 grave sites some very spread out by themselves all scattered within the woods. Unlike the German Cemetery this burial ground is covered in allot of forest. You have moss growing on the stones, overgrown brush and many of the graves are leaning against trees.
 
The story with this cemetery is that many of the bodies were exhumed and brought back to China. So its not an oddity to see grave stones tilted, tipped over, laying on the ground etc. However I will say the Chinese were not treated right in Dutch Flat and it appears maybe some of the locals really abused this little hidden place and it still goes on today unfortunately.
 
I seen quite a few monument bases but no monuments while some graves were cracked in half or just simply vandalized. There was also a wooden fence with a fancy wooden grave marker all hand carved that was in pieces. It was really bad and I could feel more energy present back here then the German cemetery. If you want to know it was very unsettling not because it was the woods its just that nearly every grave we came across were in ruins including some in two of the family plots I found. So there kind of is a sad feeling when you wander the grave sites.
 
Even though the Chinese were buried here most of them had American names which I found a bit odd considering the German cemetery was the opposite. We would take EVP's, photos and even use the Ovilus at times. I did see a few spikes on the EMF at times probably more often then the German Cemetery which is separated by woods and a dirt road but they really are not to far apart just segregated.
 
I would have to say we spent awhile here more so then the German cemetery trying to read nearly every stone. I remember one of the graves had an old bottle of wine sitting by it empty. Everything here just seemed so forgotten and desolate it made me actually a bit sad. Although I try not to let my emotions interfere with my work this place really had effected me the rest of my day.
 
I get the feeling that their are many missing stones or unmarked burials here and with all the foliage its pretty hard to find all the graves so I did the best I could with this place. I think more so then looking for ghosts its purpose of being added to our site is to preserve what is left so others can use it as a historical reference. There was one grave that stood out from the rest it had a bottle of wine dating back to 1983 in tact. But this was one of the only graves with momentous besides a few newer headstones that had fake flowers. Its obvious that many of the interments here are neglected and Id probably guess that only a few people a year visit this woodsy site. 
 
After our investigation we would get back into the truck then head downhill to downtown where Dutch Flat still remains preserved today. The graveyards overlooks downtown or at least what is left of it considering this is a semi ghost town it went from over a 1000 residents to probably a 100 people no less without the emigrants who built this town their would be no town period so it was nice to honor the dearly departed. The Chinese played a huge role in the mining that took place here so the pioneer cemetery is really all that is left of China town.
 
I really think our viewers will grow to like the cemeteries on our website eventually the are very historical and beautiful in their own way. Everything that we do is done for a good cause and it was a good experience for Sue so she could understand these burial grounds in the wild west and how segregation was very common when it came to German and Chinese miners.
