Davenport Cemetery sits back by some old mills and ranch houses on a lonely road with is wrought iron gates and white stone wall. It is the largest and one of the only cemeteries in the town of Davenport Florida. A house nearby has a local legend that it is haunted. The oldest stones line the back of the cemetery but for the most part the cemetery is very new. I seen a few later 1800s burials but alot of the graves are just simply worn. The cemetery is called Davenport Evergreen Cemetery and honestly it never ceases to amaze me how many states and counties have at least one to two Evergreen Cemeteries its very common. Doing further research it shows that the earliest structure in the town was built in 1909 so any earlier graves were probably pioneers of the town itself. A set of tracks that runs near the graveyard called the South Florida Railroad established in 1883 and had two daily trains that would go a half of mile north of downtown. They would not stop unless they were flagged down. Another major site that ran through near the cemetery was the Old Dixie Highway which you can read about below. So a lot of history surrounds this little cemetery and it is quite large due to the railroad and Dixie highway that brought in many outsiders. © By Lord Rick Approximately an hour before this investigation I was hiking at a preserve when a car came through and I went to dive in a field. My feet became entangled by some vines on the way down a sharp plant with thorns very small ones cut my throat and chin. It bled and stung shortly and when I wrapped up Davenport Cemetery I went home ate a snack and went to bed. Then a day or two later I felt like I was sick with fevers, intense pain going into my shoulder and neck area. I just got over a cold so I had no idea at the time thought it was this other disorder where your saliva gland swells up which technically time and eating right can cause it to go down. It can also be caused by colds so I did not think anything of it a few weeks ago. Well a few days later after this happened I went to NJ it grew a little had a golf ball on the side of my face but the cold kept it at bay until I got back and the Florida heat caused the bacteria to grow at an enormous rate. My neck and chin area became filled with fluid and I took herbal remedies which did not work. I went to the ER and they gave me antibiotics which neutralized the growth. But by then I remained weak from my body trying to fight this and going up to NJ hiking. After almost 3 weeks I was able to drain the area that was enlarged using Epsom salt on gauze pads causing the skin to crack. After spending hours draining it I was left with two hard lumps could be dead cell tissue or necrosis which means I would need plastic surgery possible. Then a member told me about icthammol sort of a salve and antibiotic. It was not on the shelf I had to purchase it behind the counter. I been putting that around it and the two growths have shrunken and my area where the infection was is not noticeable actually its gone and the pain has gone down 10 times less. I am doing better but I am left very weak from weeks of fevers, hypertension, dizziness, flu like symptoms etc etc without having it taken care of it is life threatening. So this is my story but with a story comes a lesson or moral. First off and foremost for all the other adventurers always clean your cuts after an investigation especially here in FL many plants are poisonous or have bacteria on them. A scratch, cut, spider bite etc can lead to cellulitis which is deadly if not treated. I am a product of this I had it in my neck and chin causing my throat area to swell and yes I could have died. As to date March 9th 2007 I am almost cured but I am very weak very tired, fatigued etc I still have two small lumps probably in about two days the hardening from those should go away completely with a little soreness. Being a paranormal investigator has its dangers and it always upsets me when I see all these other amateurs such as kids or people who steal places off our site and think they can be me half the reason that we are now a pay site. Nobody can be me and even the stupidest little things like a thorn scratch can cause death. I am lucky that plant could have had flesh eating bacteria I could have lost my entire jaw and face. My point is that for those that enjoy our site if you decide to venture out into the unknown be aware of what's happening clean your cuts at all times and take care of yourself after each excursion.
