I have to say that last night was probably one of the biggest investigations we will have in the state of Florida for the year of 2007. I been wanting to for the longest time do some investigations in the Gainesville area. Its an area with a lot of history of course the home of the Florida Gators and one of the biggest college towns in the country. I tried to mix up the night with woods, cemeteries, plantations and ghost towns. I think that it is an area in FL that deserves a lot of attention only problem is the route and distance prohibits us from visiting this place as often as I would like too.

It was a very wicked night crescent moon was out covered in evil looking clouds. Normally we leave later at night but this time we headed out during the day to get here. I had made myself a nice steak for dinner and had it all to myself lol. I think Andrew by the end of the night was pretty astounded how far we drove. He said hey Rick you put enough miles on the truck to drive to Atlanta and that we did as we drove to a variety of locations from the evening till the morning.

We visited some very interesting places each one with a tale to be told and various levels of activity. Those places were the Boulware Springs Waterworks, The Haile Plantation, Devil's Millhopper, Newmansville Ghosttown Cemetery, and the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic Farmstead. We stopped at the gas station loaded up on drinks, Jason brought soda, and everybody contributed to the trip. Then we headed on off cutting through the heart of Ocala National Forest. Good thing I changed my directions cause the road I was supposed to take was a sugar sand coated road. Going threw the forest here can be very annoying if your stuck back here its like doom no houses, no gas stations and no tow trucks so I ended up getting deterred to take a longer way but we still made it to Gainesville in good time.

It was nice having Jason back on board since he was out of town I am sure he was happy to get back into things. When your away from these sort of adventures we do like it or not it gets to be a weekly routine. Our team we have even agrees with me these adventures I give are priceless each time we go out its a different story but in the end its all about living life I would not trade my experiences for the world. I will say that at each place visited we experienced some pretty amazing things I got my wish for this trip!

We missed our turn off which took us a half hour out of the way and for awhile I was racing a freight train. I did get ahead of it and found out we were heading north east and overshot Gainesville. So quickly I did a U-Turn and I made it across the tracks oh yeah I beat the train right in front of the cops haha. Actually the arms were coming down and I just made it past but the funny thing was that Jason was sound asleep snoring so I figured the train horn would wake him up from his slumber it did not apparently nothing can wake that man I swear it lol. Sorry Jason now and then we all need a little rush!

Anyhow the first place we started off was the Water Works which has the old Gainesville Hawthorne Trail cutting right into the heart of this historical place.

Boulware Springs Waterworks

When we arrived here the first thing we all had to freaking do was take a leak I did not care if cars were driving by its the truth. When you drive to Gainesville restrooms are very far and a few between Its redneck central out this way. Their was a couple women talking on the porch they were watching us but with luck they minded their own business which is abnormal for people in such residential areas.

We cut down this very large hill through a forest onto this road. The road led us to this structure very old with wooden doors. I will have history on it when I do the prologue write up. We followed the stairs and walkway around till we found a giant pool of water which looked very deep. This could be the springs itself but not sure.

We walked around the building a little and at times I thought I felt or seen something in the large clear windows. The windows on this place are very large you could actually see inside the building cause the area is all lit up. I felt a lot of energy here it just had a real gloomy feeling mainly residual.

We walked up a hill and I cut down this blocked path which split off in two different ways. We went to the left I did hear something in the woods probably an animal but it was almost to quiet back here. We heard crickets though the whole time hiking.

I got us to the Gainesville Hawthorne Trail it appeared at one time that the trail was an old rail line. That is what they been doing across the state taking all these ghost town railroad lines and paving them into bike trails. We cut to the left and went about a half of mile. It was eerie I would not want to ride my bike on this at night would feel almost over exposed hiking though you got more control to listen to noises, sense smells etc

Their was a brief history at the trail head I did not read it all but I guess it passes threw ghost towns, abandoned places, and plantation lands. If we had more time might be fun to investigate deeper. On our way back I sensed a heavy cold spot it was isolated my theory probably something ghostly lately its very hard to get a good cold spot with Florida being so warm lately.

The guys and I made it back to the waterworks plant and went on the back side. I went over the railing and walked right along the edge of the black pool of darkness. I was stoned so it was just another test for me and I walked right along the edge. To the left of it was a more shallow pool with clear water. I mean apparently what this was that I was looking at was how the water was perhaps purified or processed where you have one pool that is dirty water and the other clean or filtered.

I climbed back up took some more photos then we split the problem was with the investigation is that when you have people sitting on their porch watching you investigate it really takes away from your investigation. Of course on the trail is fairly secluded but I was not in the mood to have my truck towed so it was time to go unfortunately this is not the Kinzua area where you can just park your car hike for two days lol.

We then moved onto the Haile Plantation.
