The
Blue Hole
I heard a lot of urban legends about this place I still wanted to visit it
even a lot of the locals do not know how to get here. Adam told me he knew
where it was and he did not people can refer to my message board on
myspace as proof however I have a photo of a local taking us in his pick
up to show us where it was.
Anyhow we started off roading again this time the road was not icy or had
water rather it had very large bumps Andrew's head was hitting the ceiling
sorry buddy wear your seat belt when I am off roading its as simple as
that.
I had some directions from someone how to find it unfortunately they were
from the wrong end of the woods so we hiked on a goose chase down a mile
trail past a marsh and into a wide open area with a old bridge. We met a
guy in a jeep he was with his son cool guy he told us he has spent years
looking for it but he said that is the mystery of it trying to find where
its located. The guy gave us some points of interest.
Eventually we just followed the GPS we started to realize this area was
mainly for hunters their were ribbons on the trees. I wanted to hike us to
the left hand side on our way back because their was on the maps I studied
a small pond which we never found but it was a cool hike as we walked on
rocks and tree logs over a bog.
We found a set of small tree limbs half broken and half sawed I got a
photo not sure if a hunter did it to mark his own path or what but it was
odd to see one limb broke and one cleanly sawed. Adam climbed also an old
wooden ladder up in a tree I told him it was not a good idea every piece
of wood was hanging by rusted nails and sure enough one started to break.
I think that some people expect our investigations to be a giant
playground but the fact remains is you could fall break your neck and die
in the woods. That is why I have rules set in place I do not want to be
responsible for someone else's stupidity you don't climb homemade wood
ladders high up in a tree that are held with one rusted nail.
We did make it back to the truck and a guy tried to go to the Blue hole
and turned around right where we were hiking. We talked to the guy he said
the road was washed out of course to me it did not matter cause we were on
foot and less then a mile away. The guy had us hop in his pick up he gave
us a ride back to the truck and we followed him a back way into the Blue
Hole the road back here was bad but I followed him so if he got stuck I
could pull him out vice versa.
He left us and we thanked him for showing us. Their it was just like the
websites a clear water oval shaped spring. Their was a washed out bridge
near by and a giant hill we also found it looked awesome for off roading
but did not know how to get back there. On the trail to the blue hole was
a shoe and we also found some clothing.
The blue hole was NOT bottomless and if they got a crane back here I do
not know how cause it was a narrow overgrown road. We did walk around it
took some photos of one another as proof. A lot of Jersey Devil sightings
take place here or stories nonetheless its famous to the Pine Barrens
area. Their also was a chimney near the side of the road so maybe at time
something existed out here by the Blue Hole.
We did leave to one of the greatest ghost towns and cemeteries in the pine
barrens perhaps in the state of Jersey. On the way up here we
stopped at this gas station that had a sub shop I ordered another Philly
lol. But this time they had a computer where you can chose what you want
on it. That would be about the last meal we would eat before heading deep
into the pine barrens.
We started off visiting Pleasant Hills Cemetery along the Batso and
Mullicka River.
