MIB

Everybody has heard of the men in black but few ever take into account of who they are and what they are about. I believe they are a government agency that puts fear into the people so they do not talk about certain events. The government just about knows every UFO sighting around the country since they have there own programs. They drive in there big black cars, dressy uniforms, some say they have very white faces. But they have not been known to follow through any of there threats but installing fear into its victims usually is enough. Many people have been visited the next day by them  usually after a major UFO event or someone who may have some sort of great evidence. Perhaps we are all being watched perhaps its all a game. Some have said the MIB are aliens and they do not want to be exposed but if that were the case they would abduct you and erase your memories so we can theorize they are a special agency protecting  nation security. There have been incidences though where people had evidence and have end up getting killed but in most cases they look like accidents is it coincidence or is it a conspiracy. Because of there dark mystery most people do follow threw with there threats since a majority of people are afraid they will get in trouble or be hurt.

The Men-In-Black of Legend

The Men in Black are beings who appear anywhere major UFO sightings take place. They go about threatening people who have claimed to have seen UFOs into not asking about what they witnessed. They wear sunglasses. They wear black suits. They have olive complexions. They drive black mint-condition vintage luxury cars or fly in black helicopters. Some think that they are government agents. Some think that they are alien agents.

The first reported occurrence of Men in Black was traced to Albert K. Bender, the editor of a flying saucer publication called the "Space Review". In the October 1953 issue he placed an announcement stating that he had come across information that would solve the flying saucer mystery but could not print it because he was ordered not to. He ended the announcement warning others in saucer work to be very cautious. He then stopped publication. Later in an interview Bender stated that three men wearing dark suits had ordered him to stop publishing flying saucer material, and that he had complied with the order because he had been "scared to death" of them. He later published a book called Flying Saucers and the Three Men in Black.

In his book, The UFO Silencers, Timothy Beckley has attempted to provide an overview of important and representative MIB encounters. According to Beckley, MIB have been with us for many hundreds of years, speculating that such diverse characters from the history of witchcraft and folklore as the Elizabethan "Black Men", the Native American "Black Man" and late nineteenth century reports of malevolent traveling salesmen, might have been manifestations of what we now know as Men in Black.

An odd incident in the history of the Men in Black is the strange case of Mr. O. H. Krill.

Mr. Krill's writings first gained publicity some time in the late 1980's when a text file called "The O.H. Krill Papers" was placed on the ParaNet B.B.S. The file told the story of shadow governments in cooperation with gray aliens, secret underground bases, exchanges of human organs for alien technologies, and the like. He offers the following information on the Men in Black:

"All things considered, UFO research has become pretty much of a circus today, and the most intriguing and controversial sideshow skirting the edges is the question of the "silencers," or the mysterious "Men in Black." There is a strong subliminal appeal in these accounts of visits by mysterious dark-suited figures (I have been visited myself, as have others I've known) attempting to silence UFO witnesses. A typical situation would be that a witness has a UFO sighting or UFO-related experience. Shortly thereafter he is visited by one or more "odd"-looking men who relate to him the minutest details of his experience, even though he has as yet told no one for fear of ridicule or other reasons.

The men warn him about spreading the story of his experience around and sometimes even threaten him personally, sometimes obliquely, sometimes directly. Any evidence, if it exists, is confiscated in one way or another. Sometimes the visit is for some totally meaningless reason and the subject of UFOs is hardly mentioned, if at all. But again, the men all seem to look alike.

We actually seem to find ourselves in close proximity to beings who obviously must be directly connected in some way with the objects themselves or the source behind them, yet they seem to be functioning unobtrusively within the framework of our own everyday existence.

The classic conception of an MIB is a man of indefinite age, medium height and dressed completely in black. He always has a black hat and often a black turtleneck sweater. They present an appearance often described as "strange" or "odd." They speak in a dull monotone voice, "like a computer," and are dark-complected with high cheekbones, thin lips, pointed chin, and eyes that are mildly slanted.

The visitors themselves are often on absurd missions. They have reportedly posed as salesmen, telephone repairmen or representatives from official or unofficial organizations. Their mode of transportation is usually large and expensive cars -- Buick's or Lincolns, sometimes Cadillac's, all black, of course.

I might note at this point that their physical appearance also has included beings that have pale-grayish skin, and that some of them have been seen to have blond hair, yet they wear the clothing and drive the cars previously described.

Their cars often operate with the headlights off, but ghostly purple or greenish glows illuminate the interior. Unusual insignia have been seen emblazoned on the doors and the license plates are always unidentifiable or untraceable.

The fabric of their clothes has been described as strangely "shiny" or thin, but not silky -- almost as if they have been cut from a new type of fabric.

Their often mechanical behavior has caused them to be described by some as being like robots or androids.

A lot of descriptions of some of these "folks" are pretty bizarre. A businessman's family in Wildwood, New Jersey, was visited by an unusually large man whose pants legs hiked up when he sat down, revealing a green wire grafted onto his skin and running up his leg.

There are other cases of MIB appearing on the other side of a wet, muddy field after a heavy rain, but having no mud whatever on their brightly shined shoes and in the bitter cold, out of nowhere, wearing only a thin coat. Their shoes and wallets all seem new and hardly broken in.

O. H. Krill assembled this short list of some of the more bizarre Men in Black incidents:

An ex-Air Force man is gassed and interrogated by MIB after he has learned classified NASA secrets.

Close-up photos of UFOs were seized from a teenager who is also directly threatened by MIB.

MIB sighted in the lobby of the U.S. State Department leave a mysterious artifact.

MIB pose as Air Force officers to silence witnesses.

MIB tries to buy before-hours Coke and sings to birds in trees.

MIB disintegrates a coin in a witness' hand and tells him that his heart will do the same if he talks.

O.H. Krill Exposed:

O.H. Krill's career was ended by John Lear when he made a television appearance with William Cooper.

Lear was the son of the famous aviation engineer, heir to the Learjet company. He claimed that his business connections with the military had given him access to secret Air-force documents related to U.F.O.s. He had posted to ParaNet his own U.F.O. files, which were also full of secret alien-government conspiracies.

Cooper claimed to be a high-ranking naval-intelligence officer, though records show that he was never anything more than an audio/visual technician for a Pacific fleet briefing team.

Lear heard William Cooper use the O.H Krill name, While John Lear wanted to use the show to announce that he made the "O.H. Krill" paper as a joke together with with John Grace (head of the Nevada Aerial Research Organization). William Cooper went on to claim that he first seen the Krill Papers in the early 1970's while working for the Office of Naval Intelligence.

John Lear immediately pulled William Cooper aside and quietly told him, "Bill, O.H. Krill is a joke!" Lear says that he and John Grace had used the name "Krill" from Bob Emenegger's special "UFO's: It Has Begun" In the T.V. special a woman claims to have channeled an entity named CRYLLL. They had posted the file on ParaNet as a prank.

William Cooper replied that Lear was mistaken. He said that Lear was a liar and still says so up to the present day. Cooper is now known to accuse all who disagree with him of being agents working for the Conspiracy.

So William Cooper left UFOlogy after UFO enthusiasts stopped taking him seriously. Now he spends his time ranting against the New World Order and the imminent armed take-over of the U.S. by the United Nations.

Why was this incident included in this dossier?:

Lear and Grace did not pull the Krill files entirely out of this air; it was really a satire of the most extreme and bizarre UFO stories that circulated among the circles of UFO enthusiasts.

If the descriptions of MIB are not directly from "real" stories from alleged witnesses, they at least bear a resemblance to some of the weirdest accounts.

And many people did believe in the Krill files for a long time. Copies of the files are still to be found on the Internet. These files have had an influence on the public perception of the Men in Black legend, and have almost certainly affected popular culture.

Sirius and the MIB (Twin Peaks fans pay special attention.)

According to John Keel, the MIB often state that they are representatives of the "Nation of the Third Eye."

George Hunt Williamson (an early MIB contact) in his book Other Tongues, Other Flesh, states that secret societies allied with Sirius use the Eye of Horus as an insignia. This symbol has also been seen on the MIB. The secret societies believe that there is a Great White Lodge on earth. They call it Shamballa -- and consider it to be the spiritual center of the world. Theosophists such as Alice Bailey say that the Great White Lodge is on Sirius. This is confirmed by Stephen Jenkins, author of the book The Undiscovered Country, who was told by Buddhist priests that Shamballa was located in the constellation of Orion. If the All-Seeing-Eye is a symbol of Sirius' earth-allies and the MIB wear that symbol, and if Shamballa represents the Great White Lodge on earth -- then the MIB are emissaries of Shamballa.

The entrance to Shamballa on earth is usually placed in the trans- Himalayan region. Some assert it is in the heart of the Gobi Desert (where there have been allegations of crashed disks and bases). According to the explorer Nicholas Roerich, there are caves in the Himalayan foothills that have subterranean passages. In one of the these passages, there is a stone door that has never been opened, because the time for its opening has not yet arrived. In 1930, Morris Doreal founded the Brotherhood of the White Temple. He says that the entrance to Shamballa is far underground. he goes on to say that space bends around Shamballa, and that there is a gateway which leads into another universe.

Theory on MIB
by va-trel

- PUBLISH THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK -

I am not responsible if something bad happens to you. There is little or no freedom in a selfish society.

Who are the MIB (Men in Black)?

First of all... who am I?

I am a psychic.
I am born with it, like the people in the famous Hollywood movie 'Scanners'.
I know quite a lot about this topic.
I wish to remain anonymous, even though someone like government-sponsored investigating services could track me down.
I do not care.
I will take this risk, in the name of truth.

OK... who are the MIB?

The Men in Black are part of the Psychic Operatives who work for various governments worldwide.
Virtually every country has a MIB department.
Some of these people are born psychic, but their powers are low. They would not assist the government, if they could read entirely the minds of their employers. Most of these people are 'artificial' psychics.

Now, why do governments worldwide like to keep a small army of such individuals? To deal with the unknown.

Who are the 'artificial' psychics?

These people date to the 50s and 60s (as far as I know).

In the 50s and 60s there were lots of experiments on ESP (extra sensory perception) made by the major governments worldwide (USA, USSR, China).
Some of these experiments were based on drugs.
Some were based on surgical procedures.
A few on 'natural' psychics (those born with it).
In the ones based on drugs and surgical procedures, some doctors (with very few morals) attempted to re-create the psychic powers of the ones born as 'natural' psychics.
The methods used in these experiments were terrible.
Even today, some of this stuff is going on.

So, here we got the MIB.

A bunch of people faithful to the government and ready to submit to experiments 'for the good of the people' and 'for the good of the nation'. Some of these people might be terminally ill persons (expendable).
These experiments were clumsy, though.
The side effects were life-threatening at times.
This is one of the reasons because the MIB are often described as weird-acting (e.g. pallor, strange speech, breathing difficulties, etc.)
These poor people are 'activated' when it is needed and their actions are severely limited by the side-effects of the drugs and/or the surgeries.
The MIB do exist.
And they are a danger to everyone.
How to deal with MIB?
I don't know for sure.
It might be that I will know quite soon after having posted this.
Ha Ha Ha...
Wish me good luck!
To deal with MIB I would recommend to make your mind dynamic.

No walls.
No concentration.
Nothing that can be overcome.
They are trained to defeat this, probably.
A dynamic shielding is based on life.
Keep as much life as possible in you - and MOVE IT within you.
I know that this might sound weird.
But there is no other way to explain it to you.

I hope (pray) that this can be of help to you.

Now, which kind of MIB can you meet?

In the Western world (e.g. USA, Russia) the MIB will be trained along some psychic guidelines (e.g. gypsies, fortune tellers).
In the Eastern world (e.g. China, Japan) the MIB will be trained along some traditional guidelines (e.g. qi gong, shamans).

This is my theory.

I know that these people can destroy the individual.
I know that they exist.
I am not sure about what they can do or cannot do.
I know that they have the government (and their resources) to back them up whenever they bully someone.

MIBs, UFOs, and the Carlos Allende Letters

Ever since organised flying saucer research began in the early 1950`s a disturbing number of serious UFO investigators have suffered personal harassment, unusual accidents and even mysterious deaths. In some cases, sinister voices have whispered threats over the telephone and warned certain researchers to terminate specific investigations. Recently an increasing number of civilian UFOlogists have been visited by ominous strangers who have made it physically clear that their orders to discontinue all UFO investigations would be violently enforced. Official disclaimers have only served to intensify the mystery of the bizarre incidents currently seeding chaos within the rank of civilian UFO investigators and instilling fear among those who witness flying-saucer activity.

It was in September 1953, that three agents of a silence group made their first in-person visit. Albert K. Bender, who had organised an international flying-saucer bureau, was their target.

According to ufologist Gray Barker, Bender had received certain data which he felt provided the missing pieces for a theory concerning the origin of flying saucers. Bender wrote down his thesis and sent it off to a friend he felt he could trust. When the three men appeared at Benders door, one of them held that letter in his hand.

The three men told Bender that among the many saucer researchers he had been the one to stumble upon the correct answer to the flying saucer enigma. Then they filled him in on the details. Bender became ill. He was unable to eat for three days.

UFO investigators Dominik Lucchesi and August C. Roberts called on Bender and encouraged him to break his silence concerning the mysterious men in black.

"They were pretty rough with me," Bender told them, "Two men did all the talking and the other kept watching me all the time they were here. He didn't take his eyes off me."

Bender went on to say that when people found out the truth about flying saucers there would be dramatic changes in all things. Science, especially would suffer a major blow. Political structures would topple. Mass confusion would reign. Roberts and Lucchesi kept chipping away at Benders wall of silence, but to most of their queries they received only a noncommittal "I cannot answer that".

In 1962, Bender declared that he would at last tell his story to the world in "Flying Saucers and the Three Men". This perplexing volume served only to confuse serious researchers, as it told of Benders astral projection to a secret underground saucer base in Antarctica that was manned by male, female and bisexual creatures. The question which remained to plague UFO investigators were many. Were Benders experiences really of a psychic nature? Was his book deliberately contrived to hide the true nature of his silencing? Had the whole experience been clothed in an extended metaphor that might yield certain clues to the perspective researcher?

On June 24, 1967, Dominik Lucchesi told the authors that Bender seemed to be a changed man after the three man in black had visited him. "It was as if he had been lobotomised," Lucchesi said. "He was scared and later he suffered from tremendous headaches which he said were controlled 'them!' Whenever he would think about breaking his silence, one of his terrific headaches would just about knock him out."

"The three men shut him up and he stayed shut-up," August Roberts added. "Today Bender manages a motel in California. We still correspond, but he still refuses to discuss flying saucers."

"In my opinion," Lucchesi said, "the men in black are representatives of an organisation on this planet, but they are not from any known bureau in our government. I believe both these men and the UFO'S come from some civilization which has flourished in a remote area of the Earth, such as the Amazon, the North Gobi Desert, or the Himalaya Mountains. It is possible that these are underground civilizations."

Within a few months after Bender had been silenced, John H. Stuart, a New Zealander, picked up a piece of metal that had fallen from a UFO during a close sighting in February, 1955. The next night he received a visit from a men dressed in black who announced that he had more right than Stuart did to the piece of grey-white metal. The man in black told Stuart a lot about flying- saucers, "...too much, maybe, for my own personal safety," Stuart wrote Gray Barker.

"It is easy to understand why they told me what they did, it was meant to scare the hell out of me, - it did! I had plenty of fright in the last world war and I am the first to admit I was very scared after this 'gentleman' had left."

Some researchers feel that certain of their fellows may have ignored the threats of the silencers and paid the ultimate price for their bravery.

Astrophysicist Morris K. Jessup, who had been vitally interested in UFO research, received an unusual series of letters concerning UFO'S, secret Navy experiments, disappearing ships, and invisible men, from a mysterious correspondent who signed himself as Carlos Allende.

The letters, postmarked from Texas and Pennsylvania, seemed important enough to the Office of Naval Research to form a special study group assigned to ferret out the mystery. Although official investigation seemed to bog down, Jessup pursued his independent research into the flying-saucer puzzle. The astrophysicist subsequently was found dead in his automobile outside a park in Florida, an alleged suicide.

In the late 1940s, Ray Palmer founded FATE magazine with Cyrt Fuller gave the UFO enigma its first big publicity push. The Air Force dubbed Palmer the "Father of Flying Saucers" and accused the editor-publisher of having fabricated the whole business to boost sales of his magazine. "I only wish I was that smart." said Palmer in 1967.

Today Ray Palmer edits Flying Saucers, Search and Space World from a small but impressive publishing company in Amherst, Winconsin. Palmer is one researcher who has been involved in the UFO mystery from the beginning. In June 1947, Palmer sent businessman- pilot Kenneth Arnold, who "discovered" flying saucers, to Tacoma, Washington. There, Arnold became embroiled in the famous Mairy Island incident which, according to Palmer "ended in terror and disaster and the deaths of two fine Fourth Air Force secret-service officers"

The Maury Island affair was quickly written off as a hoax by Air Force investigators, but a cautious examination of Arnolds testimony indicates that there is a mystery inherent in the incident which cannot yet be solved. For one thing, the cast of characters for the strange drama includes at least two nearly omniscient men in black who antedate Benders visitors by six years.

Palmers name is also linked to Richards Shaveds bizarre "memories" of Lemuria, a cave world, Dero, rays, contrived train wrecks, mental control and ancient space ships.

If you ask Ray Palmers opinion about MIB (men in black), he will tell you that he considers the whole business a myth, a fiction.

"I have been visited by every governmental intelligence agency in existence," Palmer said, "and have all presented proper credentials. I have never been visited by any MIBs or by anyone who threatened me. And if anyone should be a target for these visits, it should be me!"

"But what about the dero?" he was reminded. "In an issue of Search wrote that the dero (evil cave-culture aliens) once nearly got your life, that you live of perpetual and terrible pain, that never subsides for a second. You also wrote: 'I know KNOW the dero are real, and I KNOW what they can do!`"

Palmer did not avoid the question, but he phrased his answer cautiously. "First of all, let me say that there is certainly something to the flying saucer mystery. But where do UFO'S come from? That's like asking where do we go when we die? There is no one answer and there is no easy answer and maybe several people have different answers and maybe they`re all right! I think there are strong link-ups with psychism in the UFO mystery. I feel there is a great deal of psychic deception going on. But WHO is practising such deception - that is the problem!"

"My experience with the dero took place when I was still editing FATE in Evanston, Illinios. One night we had a very hard rainstorm and the drain in the basement plugged up. I was wading around in the water, trying to unstop the drain, when I suddenly felt myself being lifted high into the air. Helpless, I hung suspended for just a moment, then I was slammed down to the basement floor with great force. I was paralysed as a result of this attack and I most certainly do bear the effects of this paralysis to this day. I am not certain WHAT attacked me, but I am certain it was no accident."

In an "Open Letter to all UFO Researchers," which was published in an issue of SAUCER SCOOP, John Keel set forth his opinion that the MIBs are the intelligence arm of a large and possibly hostile group. After discussing various type of contact, Keel went on to say that he considered the MIBs to be professional terrorists ..." and among their many duties is the harassment of the UFO researchers who become too involved in cases which might reveal too much of the truth."

Keel`s pursuit of the silencers has led him to uncover some extreme cases of personal abuse in which certain contactee's or investigators have been kidnapped by three MIBs in a black car. The researcher notes that "it is nearly always THREE men" who subject the victim to some sort of brain - washing technique that leaves him in a state of nausea, mental confusion, or even amnesia lasting for several days. "All such victims have a black eye when released," Keel writes, "which suggests that physical contact of a violent nature is a necessary part of the brainwashing treatment."

Keels "Open Letter" in SAUCER SCOOP concludes with words of admonition and warning:

"We are now on a vicious merry-go- round and we are caught in the middle of this bizarre conflict. Contacts are being made... then suppressed... on a dizzying scale. Information is being gained... then lost... at an ever increasing pace. One of the ironies of all this is that no policeman in his right mind associates black cars, kidnappers, amnesia victims and black eyes with the UFO phenomena. Many of these cases never got beyond local police departments. Neither the FBI nor any other central government agency is engaged in collecting information on these aspects. Even local newspapers seldom take notice of these cases... since the victims are often children and teenagers... most newspapers make an effort to protect young people by suppressing "crime news" involving them.

"Because the official law-enforcement agencies are unwilling, or unable, to cope with this ever-growing situation, it becomes the responsibility of the private civilian investigator to collect and collate the full details on these incidents. The hazards of such investigations are obvious, but the job must be done. And it must be done fast, with courage and intelligence."

"All of this has been brought upon us because we have wasted years chasing lights in the sky and fussing with the Air Force. We have allowed a serious volatile situation to develop under our noses while we played with aimless speculations about the origin and nature of those rather insignificant vehicles overhead. We must switch our attention from the vehicles to the occupants. The menace is not in our skies. It is on the ground and is at this moment spreading like a disease across the country and the world."

In his address to the 1967 Congress of Scientific UFOlogists, Keel told of his personal mission to track down the silencers. He said that dark- complected mystery men had some times silenced saucer sightings BEFORE the witnesses had time to report the sighting. On occasion, Keel said, he has arrived on the scene within moments after the mysterious silencers had departed.

According to Keel, the MIBs visited and silenced eight whole communities in Washington in May 1967. Several homes in Long Island were unwilling hosts to the silencers in June. Keel also noted a large number of dog kidnappings occurring at the time the MIBs were calling upon saucer sighters.

"The UFO'S don`t want us to know where they are from," Keel stated. "They have been lying to contactee's since 1897!" (Keel explained this reference by stating that the first man in black may have appeared in Texas in 1897 when, according to newspaper accounts, some "pottery" had fallen from a mysterious airship. The next day, a dark-suited man of "Oriental complexion" arrived in town and bought up the strange fragments.)

How does the United States Government feel about the silencers? "We have checked a number of these cases." Colonel P. Freeman, Pentagon spokesman for Project Blue Book was quoted as saying, "and these men are not connected with the Air Force in any way."

Nor will any other United States security group claim them. It has never been within the line of duty of any government agency to threaten a private citizen or to enter his home without permission or a search warrant. No government agent is empowered to demand surrender of private property by any law-abiding citizen.

Colonel Freeman went on to say that by posing as Air Force officers and government agents, the silencers are committing a federal offence.

"We would like to catch one," he told John Keel. "Unfortunately, the trail is always too cold by the time we hear about these cases. But we are still trying."

Pursuit by government agencies has done little to slow down the activities of the silencers. In 1967, four bogus Air Force officers assembled policemen and civilians who had witnessed heavy UFO activity in Wanaque, New Jersey and told them that they "hadn`t seen a thing." Sternly, the citizens of Wanaque were admonished not to discuss the sightings over the Wanaque Reservoir with anyone.

Californian Rex Heflin managed to take some highly interesting photos of a UFO while performing his duties with the highway department. A few days later Heflin was visited by a man bearing credentials of the North American Air Defence. The phony NORAD investigator demanded and received, Heflins original series of pictures.

In April, 1966, two Norwalk, Connecticut, schoolboys were pursued by a low-flying UFO. The next day a man appeared at the boys` school and introduced himself to the principal as a representative of a "government agency so secret that he couldn`t give the name". The mysterious agent questioned the boys for nearly three hours.

Broadcaster Frank Edwards, now best known for his best selling FLYING SAUCERS - SERIOUS BUSINESS, made much of the official "plot" that had been set to silence him.

Before he became interested in UFO'S Edward had been conducting a highly successful radio show sponsored by the American Federation of Labour. He was warned to abandon the subject. Edwards persisted and was given his walking papers. In spite of the thousands of letters which protested the firing of Edwards and the silencing of his UFO reports, his ex- sponsors stood firm.

When reporters asked George Meany, President of the AFL, why Edwards had been dropped, Meany answered: "Because he talked too much about flying saucers!" Edwards said that he later learned that his constant mention of UFO'S had been irritating to the Defence Department and that that department had brought pressure to bear on the AFL.

Edwards was only temporarily silenced. He soon had in syndication a radio show that dealt almost exclusively with flying saucers and other phenomena. News of the sudden death of Frank Edwards stunned delegates assembled for the 1967 Congress of Scientific UFOlogists in New York Cities Hotel Commodore on June 24th. The date was a significant one. Twenty years before, Kenneth Arnold had made the UFO sighting near Mt. Rainier, Washington that gave the term "flying saucers" to our language. The thoughts of several flying saucer researchers turned at once to "the silencers."

"Edwards was warned to lay off UFO investigation" one delegate suggested. "He had been visited by the same three MIBs that shut up Albert K. Bender."

"Nonsense!" said another. "Frank has been ill for six months. Besides that, he was overweight and working too hard. It was only natural that the heart of a man in his fifties would begin to feel the pace that Edwards was setting."

"Not true!" argued yet another ufologist. "Frank has never been ill. Check the obituary. It reads death was `apparently` due to a heart attack. How many other researchers have died of an "apparent" something or other?"

Jack Robinson, assistant editor of SAUCER NEWS, said: "On two occasions an electronic-type voice, definitely not human, has told me to stop all saucer research. It sounded like the strange kind of "voice" that might be produced by a Voder machine. Each time the phone calls have come, the message has been the same: "Stop all saucer research."

Timothy Green Beckly, director of "Searchlight", a UFO news service, told us: "I have never received other than kook calls myself, but I am currently investigating two cases that involve dark- complexioned men who have silenced flying saucer sighters in Oregan and Texas."

Howard Menger, who claims to have been inside a flying saucer and to have talked with the aliens inside, said, "When I was living in High Bridge, New Jersey, in 1957, the men in dark business suits came to call on me. They flashed authentic looking credentials and claimed to be from a government bureau."

"They looked like like ordinary people. One wore glasses. They warned me to quit talking to me about flying saucers and to drop my research. We had quite an argument, and they claimed to have considerable power. Whether this was power of influence or of strange powers beyond those of ordinary people, I don`t know. Eventually they left."

Menger went on. "These same MIBs have visited other researchers. They sometimes claim to be Air Force representatives or agents from various other governmental bureaus. They are definitely not affiliated with the Air Force or the government and these imposters have created a situation for which the Air Force is blamed.

"Both the Air Force and the CIA are taking a beating from public opinion on things done by these imposters. "These imposters visit people who have contacted or seen flying saucers. They come into a sighters or a contactee's home and take any films that might of been made of flying saucers. They state that the film will be developed by the government labs. When the imposters leave and the citizen never receives his film back, he blames the Air Force or the CIA!"

There will be many researchers, however, who will not be so quick to absolve the Air Force or government security agencies from all duplicity in the silencings of key UFO witnesses. In the October, 1966, issue of "Flying Saucers", Ray Palmer ran the story "Navy Claps Saucer Sighters in Psychiatric Ward!" This article detailed the plight of seaman Gary Steven Trent and Charles Lester Niblick, Jr., who were "reassigned" to Ward T-11 of the Philadelphia Naval Hospital after spotting UFO'S in the spring of 1966.

Recently, a number a researchers have been plagued by an unpleasant manifestation associated with the silencers that has come to be known familiarity as "the smellies"

Here is a typical case that occurred to a prominent ufologist in October, 1967. The entire family was seated in- front of the television set when their dog began to raise a rumpus, punctuated by "ungodly howls". The animal crawled on its belly, snarling, terribly frightened, yet instinctively compelled to protect the household. The dog jumped up, charged, was forced backward. The family was amazed. There was absolutely no visiable thing that their dog could be attacking. Then came the "smelly" - a terrible stench that permeated the entire house in a sustained, nauseating "gas attack" lasting for about one minute. The odour was so powerful, that the family had all they could do to refrain from bolting outside and leaving their home to their unseen and savoury invader.

One researcher reported regular attacks by a "smelly" at precisely the same time each day for more than eight consecutive days.

Added to this phenomenon have been reports of contact via television. A number of individuals who have sighted UFO'S have claimed later communication with "aliens" through their home television sets. The aliens frequency disrupts normal programming to allow robed figures to instruct the saucer sighters to co-operate with the aliens and to keep their information confidential. In exchange for the saucer sighters silence and co- operation, the aliens promises him that he will be allowed to work with them on certain glorious secret projects for the betterment of mankind.

Whether such stories are born of individual delusion or organized deception, the authors have received reports of these communication from nearly every section of the US. Here is a typical report of such a contact that was sent to the editorial office of "Saucer Scoop".

"...Now to the Organization; I have been working for them for four years. They first contacted me right after I had two unusual UFO sightings - one in which three large, blue, glowing saucers landed near my house (later I went up to the site and found landing gear depressions) and the next on the following Sunday when I saw a huge silver saucer which hovered 20 feet above me and seemed to be taking my picture! Next you ask how they contacted me... They had and perfected a magnetic frequency equal to the VHF stations on TV. And so one night when they were ready and I was home alone watching TV, they cut in on channel 3 and cut off the normal transmission... by means of a director beam and transmitted to me. Using the magnetic wave principal, they told me how to construct an mg transmitter of my own...

"...Though I have never met any of them personally, I know where their base is in my area and i`ve watched their activity from a distance by telescope, in addition to seeing them on my TV."

This particular contactee identified the Organization as the "United Planets Council". According to him, "...their saucers have been landing on Earth for thousands of years. They are studying Earth and waiting until Earth can put spaceships on the moon - then Earth will be asked to join the UPC. Science will advance tremendously..."

Those who put credence in such reports are divided into two camps concerning their correct interpretation. There are the cosmic positive thinkers who sincerely believe such contacts to be initiated by the benign "space brothers" in order to better prepare man for the glories of the "new age" of interplanetary brotherhood. Then there are those who feel that such privileged communication from the Organization is but an elaborate ploy to insure the silence of those who have witnessed certain saucer sightings. Those who hold this view also believe that there is at least one UFO group which is, at best, indifferent to the fate of Homo Sapiens and which may even be hostile to Earths inhabitants.

Researcher Robert A. Stiff recently advised: "Check your past copies of "Saucer Scoop" and other UFO publications and see how many cases are reported that suggest outright hostility and attack by the UFO's, based on fact and how many others report friendly contact with our "space brothers". You will find that the former outweights the latter by a wide margin.

"The aliens have been reported to have even waved at us in a friendly manner from their craft" Stiff continued. "I, too have done the same thing. The only difference was that I waved at animals in a cage! I was being friendly to dumb animals for my own amusement. When you stop to think about it there may be no difference. We, too, may be dumb creatures providing amusement for others while they attain their goal. Our government knows more about the UFO's than they are willing to say, and they must have a serious reason. The only time we are SUPPOSED to be deceived by our government is when National security is at stake. Is this the case concerning UFO's? If so, the answer is at hand. Friends do not cause occurrences which would involve national security."

Stiff has come to feel that the aura of laughter built up around persons claiming contact with aliens has been a deliberate action on the part of those who would have the truth withheld from the public.

"Again the big question, why?" Stiff asks, "What is there about UFO's that must be kept silent - not to be disclosed? What path are we as UFOlogists following that is evidently leading to something important - so important that we must be quieted? Why the harassment of prominent UFO authorities? The privacy of them is no longer sacred and telephones have become the object of distrust.

"Wild imagination? A most definite and sad NO! We have reached the point where the serious study of UFO's has become a battle!"

Are the silencers horror or hoax? And if it is all a hoax, who is perpetrating it all, and more importantly, why? Just exactly what is the silence group that is determined to make a sinister battleground of flying saucer research?

Are they, in spite of official denials, agents from a top-secret US government agency, which knows the answer to the UFO enigma and has been commissioned to keep the truth from the public?

Could they be agents from another terrestrial political system that endeavors to guard its secret for just a bit longer?

Or, as some Researchers have theorized, could the silencers and the UFO'S be coming from an older terrestrial race which has survived and become more technically advanced as it thrives in some remote place on Earth?

Why do the silencers want certain UFO investigations discontinued? Why do they so desperately want the nations of the world to remain ignorant of the true facts about flying saucers?

It may be because they realize the more ignorant man is of the true dangers which face him, the less able he is to deal with the crisis situation. The less prepared man is to handle the inevitable confrontation with an alien race, the more rapidly he will allow himself, slave-like, to become subject to a race or culture which considers itself to be superior to Homo Sapiens.

Eminent psychologist C.G. Jung wrote with great insight when, he said: "We would be placed in the very questionable position of today's primitive societies that clash with the superior cultures of the white race. All initiative would be wrested from us. As an old witch doctor once said to me, with tears in his eyes, "We will have no more dreams."

"Our science and technology would go on the junk pile. What such a catastrophe would mean morally we can gauge only by the pitiful decline of primitive cultures that has taken place before our very eyes."

How much longer will the mysterious silencers continue in their attempts to squelch saucer research? How long before the MIB's are exposed or willingly cast off their black suits in favor of material uniform? And if the mysterious silence group should in time prove themselves to be citizens of an alien culture, how much longer will they continue to knock on doors, give ominous and unsolicited advice over telephones and harass UFO researchers before they begin invading our world?

Men In Black Facts

Appearance

Often described as having olive complexions with Asian or Gypsy- like features. Eyes are often described as strange, sometimes glowing.
Clothing

New black suits, black hats and sun glasses. Clothing is sometimes described as being made from a strange material.
Speech

MIBs tend to speak in a monotonous, mechanical tone, often with a strange accent. Witnesses have reported that their sentence construction and choice of words was peculiar.
Typical encounter

MIBs , traveling in groups of up to three, usually visit recent UFO witnesses and warn them not to report their encounter. They often claim to represent some government agency (which invariably proves to be false) and briefly flash official-looking ID. Those visited by MIB often feel ill afterward, sometimes for days.

Aliens or agents of the government? Or is the Men In Black phenomena an example of a modern cultural archetype? Analytical psychologist Carl Jung has shown that similar archetypes are universal and reoccuring in the human experience.

Monty Python's Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, and John Cleese in MIB garb. The outfits are actually supposed to be KGB secret police disguises, but this example illustrates the international scope of the "suspicious men in black suits" archetype

In 1953, the two hundred-odd members of the International Flying Saucer Bureau were taken aback when they received the October issue of the organization's journal, Space Review. In it, IFSB founder Albert K. Bender announced that he had been given the solution to the "mystery of the flying saucers" and that he would like nothing better than to publish the information, however he had been strongly advised against doing so by a "higher source." He went on to urge those who planned to continue their research into UFO phenomena to do so with extreme caution. He then folded the IFSB and shut down publication of Space Review. (Co-incidentally, the IFSB and Space Review had been losing money at an impressive rate up to this point.)

When questioned about this state of affairs, Bender would say only that he had been visited in September by three "members of the United States government...wearing dark suits" who fully briefed him on the subject of flying saucers and then proceeded to threaten him with prison time if he ever repeated a word of what he had been told to anyone. Bender spent the next ten years carefully avoiding all questions on the matter. Over time, Bender's reticence on the subject--coupled with the exploitation of it by the IFSB's chief investigator, Gray Barker, in his sensationalistic 1956 book, They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers-- gradually gave rise to the notion that the three "men in black" had not been government agents at all, but rather were aliens themselves.

Bender more or less confirmed these suspicions when, finally, in 1962 he published a book detailing his experiences called Flying Saucers and the Three Men. The book was, to put it mildly, totally implausible, involving (among other things) tales of Bender's being taken to the South Pole aboard an alien spacecraft and his subsequent surveillance by the extra-terrestrials through 1960 when they returned to their home planet. As untenable as the book was, however, it did have an enormous impact on the "popular" image of the Men In Black (or MIB, as they later came to be known). For instance, in the book Bender claims that the three men he encountered in 1953 had suddenly materialized in his bedroom, a feat US government agents would surely have had difficulty in achieving (at least back in '53). Thereafter the MIB took on a supernatural air.

The Facts of MIB

MIB phenomena is interesting on several levels, so many, in fact, that it is difficult to know where to begin. For instance, on the surface it would appear that MIB is one of those very few legends that can be traced to its ultimate source, i.e. Bender. However, a brief perusal of human history suggests that this might not necessarily be the case. A tradition of MIB-type entities, that is mysterious dark-clothed individuals with sinister intentions, can be followed back to ancient times and across virtually all cultures. At least as far back as biblical times there has been a tradition in the Middle East of men attired in black robes and turbans attempting to lure victims out into the desert for unspecified sinister purposes. Likewise, in central and southern Europe during the middle ages there existed a genuine fear among the inhabitants of those regions of black-clad beings who wandered the countryside performing indiscriminate acts of vampirism on humans and livestock alike. Fairy lore allows for otherwise human-looking fairies who dress in black and delight in causing mischief in the human world. The fact that MIB are often (in fact nearly always) described as having Asian features is interesting in light of the fact that there is a long- standing myth in China, Tibet, and India that a superior race of humans live beneath the surface of the earth who occasionally send "agents" dressed in black to the surface to surveil and/or manipulate human affairs. (This is known as the "King of the World" myth.) Native Americans feared the "Black Man" who supposedly lurked in the forests with malicious intent. There are even what could be considered MIB-type undertones in Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1835 short story, Young Goodman Brown.

So there would appear to be a general precedence, if not an archetype, for the beings Bender described. However Bender can be credited with giving these beings a specific purpose, i.e. discouraging UFO percipients from discussing what they have experienced. What is interesting is that not only did reports of MIB encounters begin to filter in before Bender's book was published, nearly all MIB encounters since have involved people who have never even heard of the phenomenon, let alone Bender.

A "typical" MIB encounter goes something like this: Soon (usually immediately) after witnessing some type of UFO phenomena the percipient is visited by one or more strange men. These men often flash badges, give names, and claim to be from one government agency or another. (Upon subsequent investigation, the names given are invariably absent from the mentioned agency's records and often the agency itself is found not to exist.) The "agents" usually display not only an uncanny knowledge of exactly what the witness has seen, but intimate personal knowledge of the witness as well. They collect any physical evidence of the encounter that the witness may have, such as photographs or residue from a landing site. Even in instances where they do not threaten the witness outright not to speak of his or her experience, the MIB usually manage to make it clear that doing so would not be a good idea. Other times, however, the MIB claim to be insurance salesmen, portrait photographers, or something equally unconnected with the subject of UFOs and never mention the UFO event in question, yet somehow leave the impression that they are associated with it none the less.

MIB tend to run the gamut as far as physical appearance is concerned, however some generalizations in this area can be made. While some MIB are decidedly more human-looking than others, they have been fairly consistently described as being olive- complected and having thin lips, high cheekbones, and slanted (sometimes glowing) eyes. Their height can range from very short to very tall. They often sport garish makeup and bad wigs in a failed attempt to look more "normal." It is usually difficult to estimate their age. Often they move in a "mechanical" fashion and their voice has a machine-like quality. They frequently appear to have respiratory difficulties and seem to be drained of energy over short periods of time. They are usually dressed, of course, in black; most often in out of date suits that appear to be brand new and cut from some strange type of fabric.

MIB usually travel in packs of three, although doubles and singles are not uncommon. They tend to drive large, black American cars such as Cadillacs, Buicks, and Lincolns which are usually at least twenty to thirty years old, yet in mint condition. Often these cars display strange, unidentifiable insignia. An unusual glow, as if from a vapor lamp or the instrument panel on some type of console, has often been reported as illuminating the interior of the vehicle. License plate numbers are usually either obscured or missing altogether, but in numerous instances plate numbers have been recorded and checked out only to show that they had never been issued.

The hallmarks of the "classic" MIB visitation are incompetence and bizarre behavior on the part of the MIB. Seemingly mystified by human ways, they are extremely poor taskmasters in the area of imitation. For instance, they often express amazement at the most mundane objects, such as bowls of jello or ball-point pens (see Mothman), and have been known to ask inappropriate and downright rude questions.

MIB encounters, as one might expect, are actually quite rare. Roughly forty cases in all have been "documented." Encounters that have the slightest hint of credibility are rarer still. Of these, the following cases give a reasonably good overview of the entire subject:

Yangguan, China 1963

Chinese UFO investigator Shi Bo has uncovered a story that, while far from dramatic, raises some interesting questions concerning the exact nature of the MIB phenomenon, for while UFOs (and, to a lesser extent, MIB) have long been a part of American folklore, they have until only recently been a taboo subject in mainland China. When this set of circumstances is taken into consideration with the fact that the witness in this case was a six year old boy, we may justifiably find ourselves wondering how such an event could occur in the complete absence of a cultural point of reference (assuming, of course, that the existence of MIB is not an objective reality).

In Shi's 1983 book, China and Extraterrestrials, he relates the story of Li Jing-yang who, as a six-year-old boy in Yangguan, Shansi province in May, 1963, had an encounter with a UFO. The day after Li had seen " a shining, silvery disc" hanging in the sky while at play with his friends, he was stopped in the street by "a very tall man dressed entirely in black." The man, while pointing to the exact spot where Li had seen the disc, inquired as to whether the boy had seen anything unusual in the sky recently. Li responded that indeed he had, which elicited from the strange man a warning "never to tell anyone else" what he had seen. The MIB then went around a corner and seemingly disappeared. Li claims that this encounter was witnessed by several others who all noted and discussed the stranger's odd, mechanical movements, his automated-sounding voice, and the fact that his lips did not move when he spoke. Thus, in its effort to keep the disc-sighting of Li Jing-yang a secret, this MIB succeeded only in making a spectacle of itself.

Maine, US 1976

Surely one of the most bizarre MIB encounters ever was experienced by Dr. Herbert Hopkins of Orchard Beach, Maine. Hopkins was a psychiatrist with no real interest in UFOs who had been working, by referral, on an alleged alien abduction case. He had been performing hypnosis on a young man named David Stephens who claimed to have had numerous encounters with extra- terrestrials. Hopkins had accumulated several hours of taped sessions with Stephens, but to Hopkins it was just another case.

On the evening of Saturday, September 11, 1976, Hopkins was at home alone (a favorite time for MIB visitations) when he received a phone call from someone claiming to be the vice president of the New Jersey UFO Research Organization (a group that was later found not to exist) and asking if he could drop by to speak with Hopkins about the Stephens case. Hopkins, for reasons he was later unable to identify, agreed. He hung up the phone, went into the hallway to turn on the light, and was startled to see that his visitor was already climbing the back steps and was nearly at the door. There was no way, not if the man had called from across the street, not if he had called from next door, that he could have possibly made it to Hopkins' door so quickly. Though extremely puzzled, Hopkins opened the door and asked the gentleman to come in.

As his visitor took a seat, Hopkins was struck immediately by several things about him. Firstly was his attire which was in impeccable condition and entirely black ; shoes, socks, pants, shirt, tie, jacket, and the round, polished derby hat he wore. Next was the fact that this strange man was completely bald, meaning in addition to lacking hair on his head, he was also missing eyebrows and eyelashes. The man's skin was dead white except for his lips which were bright red. His facial features were odd in general. His nose was disproportionately small and set low and far back. He had a receding chin and instead of having a neck his head appeared to meld with his shoulders. His eyes, though not glowing, were unusual in a way that Hopkins had difficulty in describing.

The stranger briefly outlined, in a mechanical voice completely devoid of intonation or inflection, his understanding of the Stephens case and Hopkins confirmed it as accurate. They then discussed the case in general with Hopkins doing most of the talking. It appeared that the MIB was far more interested in finding out what Hopkins knew about the case than he was in learning anything about it for himself.

Things grew gradually more bizarre with each passing minute. At one point the MIB, who was wearing what appeared to be gray suede gloves, brushed his lips with the back of his hand. When he put his hand down, the MIB's face and glove were smeared with red. Hopkins examined the MIB's mouth more closely and quickly realized that the thing had no lips, just a slit mouth doctored with lipstick to give the most general impression of lips. When the MIB spoke Hopkins could discern no teeth in its mouth.

Apparently satisfied with the information gathered from Hopkins, the MIB changed the subject. He informed Hopkins that there were two coins in Hopkins' pocket (which was correct) and asked him to remove one. Hopkins complied and held the coin, a shiny new penny, in the palm of his hand. The MIB told Hopkins to watch the coin closely. After a few moments the coin took on a "silvery" appearance and then appeared to be going out of focus. It then began to fade and, eventually, disappeared altogether. The MIB informed Hopkins that the coin would never be seen "on this plane" again. He then inquired as to whether Hopkins was familiar with alleged UFO abductee Barney Hill. Hopkins replied that he had heard of Hill, but was under the impression that he had died in the not too distant past. The MIB informed Hopkins that was correct. "Barney didn't have a heart," said the MIB, "just like you no longer have a coin." (It should be noted that Barney Hill actually died of a cerebral hemorrhage.) The MIB then gently suggested that Hopkins destroy any material he had related to the Stephens case.

Hopkins noticed that the MIB's speech was slowing down considerably. The MIB admitted that his "energy [was] running low" and rose slowly and unsteadily to his feet. Hopkins saw him to the door and watched him slowly descend the stairs, placing both feet on each step before attempting to negotiate the next one. He finally made it to the bottom and disappeared around the corner of the house, from which a bright light emanated. Hopkins initially took the light to be from the stranger's vehicle, but he later realized that the light was far too bright and bluish to have come from ordinary car headlights.

Hopkins went back inside, badly shaken and confused. His dog, a normally fearless German shepherd/collie mix, had run into the closet with its tail between its legs when the MIB first arrived and was still there, refusing resolutely to come out. Hopkins sat down at the kitchen table to digest what he had just experienced, but before doing so he pulled his revolver out of a drawer, just to be on the safe side. It didn't take him long to decide what he had to do. He went into the other room, gathered all the material from the Stephens case, demagnetized the tapes, cut them up into thousands of pieces and then, for good measure, burned them along with some other documents related to the case.

When Hopkins' family returned home they could see that he was obviously quite upset. Hopkins related his incredible story which prompted his teenaged son to grab a flashlight and go out to the driveway to look for any evidence of the presence of a vehicle. Sure enough he found caterpillar tractor-type markings in the sand that had blown onto the driveway during a recent storm. The markings were very deep and distinct, but were only about four inches wide and a foot and a half long. What is more, they were directly in the center of the narrow driveway where no conventional vehicle would leave a trace. Mysteriously, while the sand was still in the driveway the following morning and the driveway had not been used, the marks were gone.

As is common following MIB visitations, Hopkins began to have trouble with his telephone. He often picked it up to find the line dead, and his patients began to complain that when they called he either didn't answer his phone or that they would get a voice falsely claiming that his number was out of service. On those occasions when a connection was successfully made, it was often mysteriously broken in the middle of a conversation. The phone company determined that Hopkins' phone line was definitely being tampered with, but were at a loss to explain how or by whom.

On September 24, 1976, less than two weeks after Herbert Hopkins' strange encounter, his daughter-in-law, Maureen, received a phone call from a man claiming to be an acquaintance of her husband, John. The man asked if he and a friend could drop by the house, ostensibly for a social call. John, unable to place the man but curious, agreed to meet him at a nearby restaurant.

At the restaurant John was confronted with a very strange-looking man and his even stranger-looking female companion, both attired in odd-looking, old-fashioned clothes. Despite the fact that John had certainly never met the man before and that there was something inherently weird about the pair, he inexplicably invited them to return with him to his home.

Both individuals appeared to experience great difficulty in simply walking, taking rapid short steps while leaning impossibly forward. The woman's legs, judging from her particularly odd locomotion, appeared to be joined to her hips in a most peculiar manner.

Once back at Hopkins' home, the two put on a bizarre display. While continuously groping and fondling his companion (occasionally asking John if he was "doing it right"), the man proceeded to ask John and Maureen rather personal questions, such as what they read, talked about, and watched on television. At one point John left the room and the man took the opportunity to invite Maureen to sit next to him on the couch. When Maureen declined, her extremely forward guest inquired as to "how [she was] made," and whether she had any nude photographs of herself available. When John returned to the room the woman suddenly (albeit awkwardly) stood up and announced that it was time to go. The man also rose, but moved no further. The woman, after waiting several moments and making no attempt whatsoever to go around her partner, turned to John and said, "Please move him. I can't move him myself." Suddenly the man became reanimated and the two lurched out the door together, one behind the other. Their graceless exit thankfully marked the conclusion to the Hopkins Family MIB Affair.

Philadelphia, US 1980

The following case beautifully illustrates the generally inconsistent nature of the MIB phenomenon. Not only is the MIB in this case disheveled, he also encourages his apathetic host to take a more active interest in UFOs!

Peter Rojcewicz is a professor of humanities and folklore at Julliard School in New York who also teaches at the C.J. Jung Foundation for Analytical Psychology. One day in 1980 he found himself in a library on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania browsing through a book on UFOs. The book had been recommended to him by a colleague who erroneously assumed that Rojcewicz, as a folklorist, would be interested in it. At some point Rojcewicz became aware of a wrinkled black pant leg and a scuffed black shoe out of the corner of his eye. He looked up to find a man well over six feet tall and weighing no more than 140 pounds standing before him. The figure was dressed in a black suit which "looked as though [it had been] slept in for three days." The man's shirt was bright white, nearly matching his deathly pallor.

Completely uninvited, the man flopped down in a chair next to Rojcewicz and asked what he was doing. Rojcewicz replied that he was looking at a book about UFOs. The man asked if Rojcewicz had ever seen a UFO, to which the professor replied in the negative. The man then asked Rojcewicz if he believed that UFOs were real. Rojcewicz responded that he really didn't have an opinion one way or another and that, after studying the book in front of him, he realized that he didn't have much of an interest in the subject. The man suddenly screamed, "Flying saucers are the most important fact of the century and you are not interested?" He then suddenly rose as awkwardly as he had sat down and appeared to regain his composure. He put his hand on Rojcewicz's shoulder, said quietly, "Go well on your purpose," and with that took his leave.

Within ten seconds of the strange man's departure, Rojcewicz was engulfed by fear. He believed that he had had a genuinely paranormal experience, and the idea terrified him. He took a walk around the library in an attempt to collect his thoughts. Strangely, he could not find another living soul in the building. He returned to where he had been sitting, absolutely befuddled. An hour or so later he got up to walk the library again. This time everything seemed back to normal.

It was not until later that Rojcewicz heard of MIB. He has since become one of the leading authorities on the subject.

Men in Black: The UFO Terrorists

Taken from: UFO UNIVERSE Vol.1, No.3, Nov.,1988

I have never dared to tell this story before.

First off, nobody would believe me, and second of all, how does one go about coming to terms with a terror so unbelievably real that it literally make the hair on your arm bristle, and your flesh crawl?

The "Men in Black" - or "MIB" for short - have had this ominously evil effect on dozens of other level-headed individuals. But let me explain in more detail for those not aware of the regin of terror that has gone on in the UFO field, almost totally undetected for so many years.

There are it would seem, at leased two different distinct types of MIB that we must contend with.

"Secret agents" posing as either Air Force or other authorized officials have, from time to time, popped up in the annuals of ufology, prompting, in the late 1960s, the Defense Deparment's Vice Chief of Staff, to issuse a warning to all Branches of the service to be on the look out for individuals impersonating Air Force officers.

"In one reported case," the memorandum signed by Rewitt T. Wheless, Lt, General, USAF, notes, "an individual who represented himself as a member of NORAD, demanded and received photos belonging to a private citizen. In another, a person in an Air uniform approached local police and other citizens who had sighted a UFO, assembled then in a school room and told them that they did not see what they thought they saw and that they should not talk to anyone about the sighting."

In other instances, the MIB do not impersonate government officials, but arrive seemingly out of thin air dressed in sinister black garb, only to frighten the literal daylights out of those who have experienced a UFO sighting, undergone a close encounter with aliens, or somehow stumbled upon "hard evidence" that offers additional proof that a particular case is legitimate.

Often the MIB are said to be able to read the minds or control the thoughts of those they set about to harass. They can also tap telephones lines, invade a person's dreams, interrupt the flow of mail, cause hallucinations, and, in general, reek utter havoc on the lives of those they seek to intimidate. They have tried to run over witnesses, or have driven them off the road, shot at those they are trying to "silence," and even physically attacked certain individuals (if we are to believe the more outlandish MIB stories that have spread throughout the field).

Even the noted astronomer and foremost researcher, the late Dr. J. Allen Hynek, did not discount these bizarre stories that were reaching him as head of the Center for UFO Studies. Hynek once noted in an interview: "I have on occasion been told what seemed to be a straightforward story, when suddenly the witness lapsed into a highly confidential mood and told me that he was sure that his phone was being tapped or that he was being watched, sometimes on a regular basis either by the government or by occupants of the craft."

Frequently, the Men in Black arrive upon the scene in a sinister looking vehicle - most often time a black Cadillac with elongated fins - which very often is an older model that for all intents and purposes looks remarkably shiny and new.

Few Ufologist now doubt their existence. There are those researchers who say the MIB are agents sent by an earthly power...such as the CIA, or even the notorious Russian KGB. Others, upon close examination, rule out such possibilities, insisting that because of their awkward appearance and peculiar behavior, the MIB are somehow affiliated with the ETs themselves, perhaps a sort of interplanetary Mafia that has been set up, and whose primary purpose is to cover their trail in instances where a report is likely to get too much attention, and the witnesses have to be SILENCED at ALL cost!

THE MODERN ERA

In more modern times researchers like John Keel, Timothy Green Beckley and the late Gray Barker have done a credible job of documenting the activities of the MIB. In his now classic work THEY KNEW TOO MUCH ABOUT FLYING SAUCERS, Barker told the story of Allen K. Bender, director of the now defunct International Flying Saucer Bureau, an organization that flourished in the early 1950s.

During his investigation, Bender somehow stumbled upon the secret of the saucers, how they were propelled, who flew in them, and where they originated from. He wrote to one of his many correspondents about his findings, but instead of getting a reply through the mail, he was visited shortly thereafter by three men dressed in black. For several hours two of the men drilled the researcher on the explanation for the UFO mystery. while the third merely sat and carefully observed Bender. The story they gave was "fantastic" and extremely frightening, Bender later said, and it portended great changes in all field of human endeavor, particularly in science. Before leaving, one of the MIB turned toward Bender and said, "If we hear another word form your office you're in for BIG TROUBLE!"

According to published accounts (see MIB - ALIENS AMONG US by Beckley), Bender made a telephone call to a friend in which he casually mentioned his theory and subsequent visitation of the three men. Immediately after hanging up, the phone rang. A voice uttered that he knew of Bender's conversation and that he had made a "bad slip" and warned him to stop his activities RIGHT AWAY!

The same day Bender suspended his organization's newsletter and refused to talk about UFOs to his closest associates, his friends or even members of his immediate family. He was convinced that if he gave away the "secret" something very terrible would happen to him and those around him.

Other researchers have not been so lucky. One Australian Ufologist was pushed down a flight of stairs in a large department store by seemingly invisible hands, since there was no one near him at the time of his fall.

In another episode which ended even more bleakly, two Army investigators died when their military plane crashed. At the time of the "accident" they were reportedly in the process of carrying a briefcase which contained metal from a UFO that had exploded off the coast of Tacoma, Washington. The incident in question included the appearance of "secret agents," and even lead to an article in the TACOMA TIMES with the intriguing headlines SABOTAGE HINTED IN CRASH OF ARMY BOMBER. The reporter who wrote the story, Paul Lance, claimed that a mysterious telephone informer had called his office and indicated that the plane had been "sabotaged or shot down to prevent shipment of the flying disc fragments" to Hamilton Field. "Lending substance to the caller's story," continued Lance's account, "is the fact that twelve hours before the Army released official identification, he correctly identified the dead in the crash...At McChord Field an intelligence officer confirmed the mystery caller's report that the ill-fated craft had been carrying 'classified material.'"

There have been other cases where UFO witnesses have been kidnapped right off the street, taken to some windowless MIB headquarters while blindfolded, sometimes drugged, and threatened with physical harm if they continued to talk about their experience.

For just such a reason, Carrol Wayne Watts of Loco, Texas doesn't much like to talk about his UFO experiences anymore after he went to the aid of a motorist and was hit by a heavy object in the head while his back was turned. Watts claimed that that a space craft had landed on his property several times, that he had gone onboard the craft, met the object's occupants, and taken photographs to validate his story. At first, he freely talked to the press, but later refused to do so, after his house was supposedly sprayed by machine-gun fire.

Some researchers even point to the untimley deaths of certain ufologist as the possible work of the Men in Black. They see the reported "suicides" of scientists like Dr. James McDonald and M.K. Jessup as being related to the existence of the MIB. They point to their belief that these men were on the verge of some important breakthrough when their breath was snuffed out. Those more "careful" in their investigation of such matters see these deaths as being unfortunate "coincidences."

THE MIB IN HISTORY

The terrorists of ufology have always been with us, their existence having been well documented in reports the go back a hundred years or more. In 1864, for example, a UFO dropped several strange artifacts over a small Texas community. The objects - of unknown origin - were picked up and placed in a store window on the main street of town. The very next day a "stranger" dressed in a long black coat visited the shop keeper and offered a "high price" for the objects. But, because they did not belong to him, the store owner said he did not have the right to sell the items. That night the store mysteriously caught fire and when the ashes and rubble were sifted through, none of the artifacts could be found. Nor was the "stranger" ever seen again!
