Curses

All of us have heard about curses at some time or another but its the mystery that is behind them that is what interest me. Alot of times you will hear people say I do not believe in old superstitions however have you ever had a bad streak of luck, or an item that was haunted, or something unlucky? King tuts tomb was said to be cursed really what it was it not a curse but rather the disease sealed or at least king tuts mummy over the years developed the bacteria so when it was opened people ended up being sick and dying. Alot of time when we hear of curses we think someone cast a hex on me. We also relate curses to voodoo. But we have to be very careful how we use curse for example someone I knew carried a talisman around and for years it made her sick till she got rid of it things like that. Some items are cursed not by magick however but from angry spirits and they chose to curse that item because its most likely related to there physical life at one time. Did you ever here the saying that disrespecting Indian burial ground leads to a curse. I suppose a curse is a mindset to if you believe in something then it probably becomes a reality. You start to think you are cursed. I think curses have alot to do with demons alot of angry people before they die curse something with hatred which lower demeaning spirits feed off of. There is many cursed items and places in the world like on ebay they had a haunted painting for sale and those who bought it would have alot of bad luck, apparitions would show around there house from the painting etc Perhaps because there is so much anger after death that that item becomes alive just like some curses land and houses become alive. To a investigator like myself what you call cursed land I call fascinating I guess because most curses are caused by the living and after death that persons anger still carries on. Thus making a place more haunted then another place. We cannot say curses do not exist since this is not a new topic curses go back to the bible, ancient Egypt, the native American people and in folklore. Perhaps its coincidence that maybe lots of people drown in this lake for example or perhaps there is a higher force involved an unseen force maybe its negative energy maybe its something more evil either way curses exist in everyday life. Some of the most famous cursed places are Dudley Town, Point Pleasant WVirginia where chief cornstalk cursed that area, and king Tuts Tomb. That's just to name a few there are certain borderlines you do not cross however when it comes to courses. More or less you have to respect a curse since its like an oath or last wish. If you go into a cursed haunted house and you know the curse is about people stealing from the house are cursed then you respect it and do not steal. Respecting the curse is respecting the person who made it just remember this.

About Magickal Curses

The word hex is sometimes used synonymously with curse. Among the Pennsylvania Dutch Witches hex can designate either a good or bad spell. In neo-Pagan Witchcraft, some Witches use the term hex to designate a binding spell, which is different from a curse.

A curse is the expression of desire of harm to come to a particular person. Anyone can lay a curse on another person, but it is believed that the authority of the person who lays the curse on increases its potency and makes it more dangerous. Such persons are believed to be priests, priestesses or royalty; persons possessing magical skill, such as Witches, sorcerers and magicians; and persons who have no other recourse to justice, such as women in many societies, the poor, the destitute and the dying. Deathbed curses are the most potent, since all the curser’s vital energy goes into the curse.

There is a belief that if the victim knows that he has been cursed and believes that he is doomed, that the curse is all the more potent for the victim helps to cause his own demise. However, many Witches and sorcerers claim that curses can be just as effective without the victim’s knowledge of them. They further say that they would never let the victim know the curse had been laid on him because then he might go to another Witch seeking to get it removed.

This has happened. Persons feeling that they have been cursed have will go to a Witch or sorcerer, sometimes in ignorance to the same person who put the curse on them, to have the spell broken. If the Witch or sorcerer has laid the curse on the person, then he makes an additional fee for taking it off. When two opposing Witches or sorcerers are involved, a magical war might erupt to see whose has the stronger magical powers.

In the various traditions of neo-Pagan Witchcraft it is against the ethics and laws of the Craft to lay curses. Most Witches abide by this, thinking that the curse will return to the curser in the same form as given. Although there are those that believe that cursing against one’s enemies is justified. Witches from ethnic cultures such as the Italian STRAGA, the Mexican BRUJA, and branches of the Pennsylvania Dutch also believe that cursing is justified.

Just as many methods exit for breaking cursers as there are for making them.

Traditionally, the most propitious time for laying on and breaking curses is during the waning of the moon. A.G.H.

A curse is simply a set of words that have been empowered with ‘negative’ energy...

A curse cannot harm us unless we allow it to by giving the negative energy some entry point, as through our beliefs, fear or guilt. In any case, paying a fee to remove a curse will have very little effect on changing your luck or making you well again!

About curses in general

Curses have been around for as long as mankind could hate. No religion can claim to have originated the curse; it sprung up wherever jealously and anger did. Nor can any religion claim to be truly free of casting a curse of one sort or another. They're everywhere, and they can be vicious.

A curse isn't created by merely being angry at someone. They are created when someone intensely wishes another harm in some part, or all, of their life. Curses feed on the negative emotions of their creator, and, like any magick, are sent out to fulfill the wishes of the caster. The wishes of the caster are usually revenge for hurt caused, jobs stolen, lies, backstabbing, betrayal, lovers lost or stolen, death of friends and/or family, or simple jealousy that someone else's life is better than theirs.

One of the problems is that as the curse feeds off the creator's negative energy, it creates a vacuum. That void is usually only filled again by more negative energy and creates a vicious cycle, continuously replenishing the caster with anger and hate. This can, in turn, lead to more curses being cast, and the cycle continues until the person who cast the curse(s) either wises up and stops, finds themself cursed by another person, or they "curse" their own lives by bringing so much negativity into it and through it.

This cycle can, in fact, continue for lifetimes before the person wises up, or has sent their own life (lives) careening so far out of balance that it's near unredeemable. If your life gets too far out of balance, it can be very difficult to fix. Like will attract like, meaning, if your life is filled with hate and anger, it will only attract more; you will have a difficult time drawing love and acceptance to you. Thus it's no wonder that most religions and people frown on casting curses; it could not only harm the person it's cast upon, but also s/he who cast it.

Of course, even if someone does cast a curse, there's no guarantee that it will work. So much can go wrong, just as in casting other magick. For starters, if the caster doesn't believe it will work or doesn't have their heart in it, then there's a good possibility it won't work. Secondly, if the victim firmly believes that there is no such thing as a curse, or that they can't be cursed, the person casting the curse will need to overcome the victim's beliefs, either in strength of the curse or by merely convincing them. If they don't, the curse could very well fail.

However, if the curse is sucessfully cast, the results can be quite nasty! Bad health, a turn of luck, loss of a job or even loved ones. Some especially vicious curses also call for the victim's death. Of course, others call for the victim to fall in love with, or be fallen in love with by an undesirable person, or to be extremely popular with the opposite (or same) sex, thus driving away the person's true love and creating misery. Some curses can be unbelievably insidious, seeming harmless at first, possibly even a blessing. Too much of a good thing....

Any curse that is cast, can also be uncast, and this can be done by the person who cast it (though it's unlikely they ever would), or it can be removed by the victim in a variety of ways.

Those who cast too many curses, or curse the wrong person can find themselves in serious trouble. If the victim is either someone who knows about magick and curses and is experienced or knows someone who does, the victim/victim's friend can curse the caster in return. Even worse, they could reflect the curse back onto the original caster. A victim/victim's friend with alot of experience in magick can even bind the curse caster, meaning that that person can never again cast a curse, or.. in some cases, never use magick again. Binding is usually an extreme measure and one not undertaken lightly as it has some serious results.
