The Buffalo asylum built in the mid 1800s was built by Richardson which is famous for his gothic European architecture. The facility is composed of 11 castle like structures that all connect like one giant fortress. The 2 towers remain lit and stand out from a great distance. The building had everything from a library to church inside which now all remains a past time since the place closed in the 1970s. This is probably one of the most haunted places in Buffalo NY students at the college next door have heard screams, doors are known to slam, and many other strange things such as figures seen in patient rooms. The facility is very foreboding you have attics the size of houses, basement passages you can easily get lost in, a few floors of patient rooms, beneath the basement is a whole underground net work of catacombs which is said the most horrid things had occurred. Many unorthodox methods were done at the asylum electric shock therapy, I'm sure abuse of the patients, sexual assault Ect. Back in the day people were sent here for any sort of problems not just mental conditions but people who drank to much, had a handicap, were into witchcraft, did drugs, hit there spouse and such. Its unfortunate that so many lived out there lives there and I am sure passed away. Many of the rooms are small with little or no light as all they can look at are the large oak trees covering the property which I believe is 200 acres around. The material that was used to make this place was shipped from Europe to here giving it a old school type of look. Much of the old equipment still remains chairs, desk, ironing boards, paperwork and many other things that are left behind. The city of buffalo has sealed it off even more now however I and very few in this organization know the way in. The city has also sealed off the administration building which is 2 large buildings and of course the 2 towers which are the oldest part of this fortress. The administration building is said to still contain much of the old paperwork, statues, marble floors and tiled walls which yet remains to be seen. I believe they want to turn the Buffalo Asylum into a prison or school since it looks like some parts are being remodeled such as there are some working lights inside, a room freshly painted so perhaps this fortress one day will be physically active again but one thing that will NEVER change is the spirits that still haunt it. Our organization has investigated it three times we have experienced everything from screams, doors slamming, moans, loud bangs on floors above us, and even being chased. I the founder seen one of my first ghost here as a long haired lady looked at us from one of the third floor windows just watching us. On one of our investigations we seen a ghostly man in the catacombs working away he paid no mind to our presence.
