Captain John G. Clark (1844-1915) Civil War Veteran

Clark Memorial sits a few hundred feet off the road I am surprised I found this place its almost impossible to see. You have to go down a steep bank...walk through rattle snake alley and eventually you will reach this Christian Cross erected for John G. Clark a pioneer traveler. 

The monument is made of brick erected in 1949 by the citizens of the nearby Overton Nevada. The captain John G. Clark retired at the age of 46 from the NY infantry dying in 1915 at the age of 67. He was driving a buckboard through the desert on the arrowhead trail near the mud river. He stopped tied down his horse to the back of the buckboard. He then laid down and died of dehydration at this point in the Valley Of Fire. The Monument is around 8 or 9 feet high and that perhaps is what caught my eye is seeing this white object in the desert. When I went up close to it I found out it was not paranormal but rather a memorial. 

I believe that Clark County was named after this historical civil war figure. Clark was not the only one to die in the Valley many others have fallen to there deaths, died of thirst and have had strange accidents. I even heard of disappearances in the area. So you can understand now what PGS does is professional do not try this yourselves you must have knowledge in order to survive in the harsh desert especially if you were to break down, get lost or encounter the unknown! This memorial just proves my statement! John was not so lucky when he traveled into the valley!
