The road on in is not as far as most ghost towns but no less it gets a bit rugged as you work your way up to the industrial area of Thompson Smelter. As we drive past old town we realize that on each side of the road it is fenced off passing by and making our way up to the hill which contains what appears to be a vault or some concrete building.
When you begin to walk around the industrial complex where the copper was processed you almost feel as if your walking in some temple. With the snowy sierras and Pine Nut Mountains off in the distance you really get a sense of how remote of an area this town was. This town was the terminus for the Copper Belt Railroad which ran through Yerington, Wubuska, Wilson Canyon, Hudson, Nordyke and Ludwig just a few stops we have explored along the way.

This is the grand tour of the heart of Thompson Smelter which was named after William Boyce Thompson a financier, investor and philanthropist. Allot of the concrete was made with native stone and anything the locals could find. This copper empire was allowed Thompson to get enough funding for other major projects he was involved with all the way up from Canada to Peru. The copper was processed then it was exported on the Copper Belt Railroad.
I call this area Brick Hill which overshadows all of the industrial complex and the town of Thompson below. This very area is where the smelter stood there was also a very large brick smoke stack. Below this is the dump pile as copper ore was imported from the local mines on the line it was smelted here and then loaded onto the Copper Belt Railroad. Today the bricks are a reminder of early industry of the 20th century!

Were standing still on brick hill above the entire complex when I begin getting EMF readings which were mediocre but no less apparent. This would make sense this hillside employed nearly the entire town as they worked tediously smelting 1000 tons of copper ore per day.
We are beginning our decent off of Brick Hill into a Colosseum of various concrete pillars and foundations. At one time the complex built wood walls on top of these concrete wonders topped off with aluminum roofing! As I pass through the area one can see the size of some of the foundations including an area which was heavily burnt from a fire maybe even a lightening strike!

As you can see the town site is below the smelter and its entirely fenced off by some group who bought up the property. So as I am cruising down the road heading out of the region you will also see various foundations and buildings which may have been stores, homes and business crucial to Thompson Smelters growth! Also towards the end of the film you will also hear a ghostly bark inside my truck its strange but the cams and recorder picked it up could very well be EVP!
