The Shingle Creek Plantation is extremely vital to the Osceola County area. Its currently in preservation but it was the site of an old grapefruit plantation and hundreds of grapefruit trees still grow in the groves today. It has a very eerie past if you read further below one that many of the locals have shared tales about for decades.

Its roughly covers about 800 acres of swamps, trails, kayaking creeks, and woods. Much of the area is very overgrown and taking care of one could easily get lost back in here and its not recommended since the area is full of wildlife such as gators and wild giant boars.

This plantation has it all an old stone well, barn, garage, cabin, and many other structures. It really is ashamed to walk past such a deplorable part of history more then likely its one of the oldest farms in the area.

Its quite a site to see the grapefruit just growing a few feet from the main house or the old antique car in the garage. More so then haunted its an eerie place. The plantation runs on both sides of the road.

The trail that cuts through this forest actually connects with the Everglades here in FL. More then likely it was an old wagon road. The forest is mainly hardwood swamp and pines. Surrounded the plantation are groves and the grape fruit are pretty ripe around October great for picking.

Sadly in recent times the plantation was the victim of an arsonist and one of the main structures was burnt down. Such acts can cause the delay in the restoration of such a pioneer piece of history.  But in addition to history it has a very spooky past.

Rumor has it that not to far away from these woods bigfoot has been spotted or its cousin called the Skunk Ape. With recent development just a couple miles away beyond doubt it probably has chased this creature further south. But with all the acreage and heavy woods their is a good chance something lives out in these woods you can almost feel it in the air!

There is another rumor passed around for years about a monster in the depths of Shingle Creek. Some say its Florida's version of the Lochness Monster. I am not going to say this is impossible I did find a weird track just a mile up the road that matches no beast to the area. Strange things were happening back in the 1970s to fishermen. Some of the fisherman's 60 pound test line and stainless steal leaders were breaking. If you are a fisherman on a 60 pound test line you could probably pull in an 8 foot shark so whatever was breaking fisherman's line had to be monstrous. Some skeptics said it was just a giant catfish but even those can be very intimidating.

Back in the early 1990s there was alot of legends being past down about this area and it stated that many corpses and escapees from the Orange County Jail were washing up in the Shingle Creek area. This is an area alot of high school students would party at and they would hear things in the woods noises, screams of the dead etc and even one of the older local residences backed this up.

We did explore some of the trails on Shingle Creek but we mainly focused on the plantation itself. It was very eerie back here dark, full of woods, grapefruits dropping out of the tree and extreme feelings of something brewing out in the heavy forest. We did manage to cover alot of area before we investigated the structures and I must say its a horrifying place not the type you want to be alone at night in.

Whether there is a ghost here its hard to say but one thing is for sure there is ALOT of history to this place and it has a past therefore that alone can haunt us!
