Shaelor Lakes starts off  in the Carson Pass in the Eldorado National Forest. The first part of the hike is a gradual acension to the top of a ridge.  Across the pass you can get some great views of Silver Lake and Thunder Mountain two very major geological landmarks in this region.

In less then a half of mile you ascend a few hundred feet as you come out of the forest. On top of the ridge a single large tree overlooks the sierras to the north staring down into the monolithic Shaelor canyon.

The hike then progresses to take you over a series of large slabs of granite where rare types of wild flowers grow. As you descend into this valley off in the distance you can clearly see lower and upper Shaelor Lakes. Along with that the granite in the canyon has trapped smaller pools of water.  The cliffs are so high that they glimmer and reflect off the water which gives off a constant picturesque view.

The lakes are seperated by a massive granite slab well over 60' while the lakes drain out into Shaelor Creek which eventually drops down into the canyon. The lower lake is much larger, deeper and pristine. While the upper lake is tightly nestled by granite cliffs and is much more shallow thus plant life grows along its shores.

Like any area we explore we work in quadrants sometimes certain areas of this national forest produce good results for finding Bigfoot evidence while other places are just not hot spots. This could be attributed to the fact that this is one of the top 10 hikes in the Carson Pass. It recieves allot of foot traffic and during my exploration I came across three tents on the lower lake.

The trail is very hard to follow at times generally people rock stack to mark the safest path which gives it a very primtive feeling. At times you will ascend and descend onto massive rocks losing the trail entirely and having to carve your own journey. This is what exploring is about taking the off beat path and taking everything you can in. Aside from the fact we found very little paranormal evidence this will be forever a favorite for so many viewers who really want to look into the heart of the Sierra Nevada!

They are both granite lakes so most of the shoreline is very rocky while beyond these lakes is a primitive wilderness very few ever venture into. Most people visit the lakes to camp and swim. While I visit these places to not only enjoy what the outdoors offers us but in hopes to build a case file for every region we can access in this lush national forest known for a Bigfoot hot zone for the last century.

Although many lakes are accessible by car these sister lakes are unique as its a worthy hike to reach them. I had the experience to spend three hours in the forest on the opposite side of the ridge at night. What I learned is that its very slow going as the granite rocks are bigger then houses and many large 200 year old fallen trees are scattered throughout its thick blanketed forest. Which can only lead to speculation that something would be able to work its way through the harsh forest come down to the lake and go right back up to the primitive outskirts which surround this scenic wonder.

I wanted to thank the Amador County California State Police for helping me when we were stranded an the older time on his motorcycle who gave us some oil. This is why I enjoy having the opportunity to enjoy these scenic wonders because generally anybody else you come across in your journeys appreciates it all the same. So everybody does what they can for one another and ill take that over the big city anyday.
