Pyramid Mountain Historical area is such a wonderful place for any paranormal investigator to hike at. Its full of Lenape Indian history who used the area for hunting and fishing. The Pyramid Mountain historical area is on both sides of the road containing many sites like bear rocks, caves, cat rocks, big and little cat swamps, dams, lakes, tripod rock, and even two separate foundations with chimneys hidden in the woods.  So the area covering over 1,300 acres is rather huge full of trails which can go up to about 5 miles.

I also heard rumors of the New Jersey Stonehenge which is located here. I did not realize it till I got home but Tripod Rock is considered to be part of the Stonehenge. Off about 40 feet in the woods near tripod rock is a smaller set of stones which has a V formation where during the summer solstice the sun lines up with it.

Not to far away is another site supposedly with three rocks surrounding a big one. Who built these that is the question its obvious that these acted as calendars for the stars perhaps built by the ancient Indians of the area. However strangely the Wisconsin Glacier formed Tripod Rock so perhaps the Indians just utilized this to their advantage.

The area has a series of low ridges that rise to 900 feet above sea level. The highland summits are separated by narrow valleys and were used heavily by the native Americans. Later on notorious outlaws used the area as a hide out and in the 1800s quarrymen and charcoal makers settled in the area. The Pyramid Mountain area is known for its odd rock formations and glacial erratics. Rumor has it that tripod rock was used as a celestial calendar and the house sized Bear rock was used as a boundary marker. In the 1900s trails were laid out so people could make pilgrimages to both ancient sites. They say from atop of the Pyramid mountain you can see the NYC skyline we must have been looking the wrong way lol:)

Tripod Rock our goal is a hundred and seventy tons which sits atop three smaller boulders on Pyramid Mountain. The local people for 1000s of  years consider this a spiritually significant site. The rock is the largest of this type in the eastern USA and it sits near one of the last major glaciers thus it dates back to at least two glacial cycles or rather meaning its over 100,000 years old. The local legend states that it was levitated into position by Native Medicine.

The rock is on an outcropping of bedrock and forms one focus of a rough oval of 10' boulders. The other focus is another outcropping of bedrock. Their are two smaller boulders in the oval which are propped into position by smaller rocks. Psychics who are sensitive to energies say their is a strong sensation of peace and power at Tripod Rock. They said its a ley line connecting to the Montauk Pyramids and then to the ancient site of Atlantis. They also said the rock is powering up its energy vortex  for the needs of a new age I did put my hands underneath it the energy feels really good like power flowing through my veins it almost gave me energy to continue to my hike as my first day in NJ was rough having to adjust to cold temperatures and hiking with no energy due to a cellulitis infection. After touching the rock the energy I had for the rest of the trip I thought surpassed my investigators not because I am being egotistical it just is what it is a place of power and medicine so the rock helped me in my own way cope with things. I touched the rock and in some way my energy if the legend is true I will be now connected with Atlantis so as you can see their was more to my trip to NJ then just the Jersey Devil.

On a stormy fall equinox evening in 1995 representatives of certain Elders of the local Native American people along with other spiritualist cleansed the site opening up the vortex. It is said that their was black magic that broke the sites protection hundreds of years ago and that broke the protective ley line across Long Island and into the Atlantic allowing the invasion of Turtle Island by the Europeans. Turtle Island is the translation for North America. When the descendents of both sides cleansed the energies returning certain objects to the site a powerful act of reconciliation occurred and once again the energies were opened at the Sacred Place. Little did my investigators realize why this place was chosen by me and it may have been the only place we went that they seemed to take interest in exploring.

During the Summer Solstice the sun sets between the marker rocks as sighted from the second bedrock outcropping. It is said that the Tripod Rock Energy Vortex reaches full energy around this time. Hundreds of people attend the site to observe this making pilgrimages. This site is visible by several neo pagan and new age sites. We did not get to visit the other rock formation in the area but you can bet your ass I had us hike to Tripod Rock and it was a very important venture for the group.

I did find a large cat track and did some reading their are bobcats, black bears, coyotes, possums, and turkey in the area. Not sure if the track matches a bobcat cause it was rather large but their is alot of signs that Pyramid mountain has alot of wildlife. The theory to the rock is that the Wisconsin Glacier dropped the boulder onto the mountain made from quartzite. Over the last 18000 years or so smaller rock and sand particles that were underneath it eroded away leaving the boulder on its legs or rather smaller slabs that the rock came to rest on. Someone had inserted other types of rock under the boulder to replace the smaller support rock that now crumbles and erodes.

Their is also a place known as Morgan's Ruins...Morgon legend has it was a robber who hid out in the swamp not sure if one of the two sets of ruins we found was Morgan's Ruins but we did cover most of Pyramid Mountain and the area.

I think its a strange area and this was one of our ancient site investigations which makes it unique. You are not allowed to be hear after dark not sure why its just a bunch of backpacking trails in the mountains but I was stopped on my way back to the truck by a local cop who told me the truck has to be out so he can lock it up. They also have another area called the 100 steps which is 100 rocks stuck in a hill that you must climb to get to the top so definitely a well worthwhile excursion.
