The Nickplate Railroad, Norfolk & Western Freighthouse and Depot was built by the NicklePlate Railroad company in the later 1800s and this is also a very old part of history. This depot was not used for passengers but rather perhaps engineers or freight workers. It does not have a very big platform and I can almost bet you that the depot served more as a way to mail letters and packages using the trains perhaps small things could be stored at the depot and later loaded on the old Norfolk trains. This depot was build in the 1800s and is over 115 years old. When you approach it the high hedges surrounding the place and its old architecture give it a mansion feel rather then a train depot. The foundation is made of all cobble stones along with red brick. The towers or shall we say steeple roofs really give you a foreboding type of feel. Their is no doubt in my mind that there is not something paranormal here you can feel something is surrounding the entire property. What you feel generally is watched, not alone and every turn you take inside its halls have a twist and a turn. The strangest thing about the depot itself is there is no way to get to the second floor or even attic area. Their is no stairs, no ladder going up, no hatch, not even a opening in the ceiling to a second floor. Which means that an entire second floor was built without a way upstairs. The original ceilings, tiles, walls and wallpaper still remain inside so why not a way or opening to a second floor and if it was sealed why is there not some kind of sign like fresh cement or something? Which means nobody has either set foot in the upstairs for over 100 years or somebody somehow sealed it off years ago and removed the stairwell but the question would be as to why? So even though we do not have alot of information on this place you can definitely see a part of history. I believe what they are doing to the depot now is turning it into an apartment complex just lets hope the tenants dont wander into the basement since I feel something is living down their. There is also a mysterious locked door and yes folks it is locked from the inside in the basement we could only open it about an inch and it is a small room of some kind. How can someone place a lock inside a small room? Did someone enter this depot and never left it? You decide!!
