The Deland Potters Field dates back to 1961 when one of the first burials was when Baby Peter passed on. The oldest burials are towards the back and there is a couple hundred stones. Most of them are categorized by decades rather. Volusia county used the Potters Field to bury unknown persons and the poor. The name "Potters Field" comes from the bible St. Matthew (27:3-8) and means a
Public place for burial of the poor and unknown.

The Potters field is used also by Florida Hospital and lets face it with any hospital there are many deaths. However as you walk through here there is such a sadness worst probably then any cemeteries I ever been to. Some of the burials are unmarked or just have a funeral home marker while others have a very small stone which one of them I tripped on and flew about 6 feet in front of me. Many of the burials here are children perhaps this is why a sadness is felt here. But what also is sad is that most of these people did not have family, friends or anybody. They were to poor to be buried in a luxurious cemetery such as Oakdale here in Deland. Often when parents lose a child they do not expect this to happen and are not prepared to afford a nice headstone or plot. For the cemetery only being a little over 40 years ago the condition has deteriorated perhaps this ought to tell us something. It is also possible that the Potters Field is alot older and the unmarked burials stretch out into the woods and other areas beyond the fence.

I did not learn what Potters Fields were till I investigated back in Dec 2003 so I knew as far as paranormal activity this place would not be a let down. Since my move down to Florida this had to be one of the most un-easiest places I have investigated. Another wards the entire time I was here the Potters Field kept me on my toes. I been wanting to investigate this place for awhile but without a vehicle I had to walk pretty far to get to it. Then of course finding it was not easy at first. It a pretty foreboding place after all it sits down a long dark road surrounded by many giant willow trees. Also the cemetery sits near some very thick woods and you can just feel no matter where you walked watched. But I also noticed that the ghost here are very active my first photo here was just a giant solid white mass at the creaky front gates. So they are very aware that they have passed and rather seem very lonely. I mean think about it if you were buried in a field and visitors never came around wouldn't you get excited to have someone visit you especially someone who can recognize you? So in a way this investigation meant more then just a few ghostly photos but rather I believe my visit has warmed some of the souls here to know that there are people who do care.
