 The Decker Homestead is a fine example of early pioneer history in the Carson Valley. A valley that is overshadowed by the Pine Nut Mountains and the Sierras Carson Range. The fences which held cattle no longer stand. The large meadows are just full of tall grass and nature is consuming the property.  It was obvious that the house may have been made by its owner. The wood and local stone which was mortared 6' in height is where the second floor rest upon.

The house had at one time a wood stove, kitchen, utility room, attached garage, second story master bedroom and shed. The garage had at one time two white doors that at one time shut together. The kitchen, utility room and bedroom upstairs all had there own entrances or doors. To get to the second floor today there are no stairs and it was apparent that birds had taken up residency here.

I can say besides being a very awesome exploration surrounded by country side 360 degrees it is haunted by a ghost who told me his name is Bob. I am afraid that this house is in a few years going to collapse as nearly 50% of the stone foundation is crumbling. You will not see locations like these on any paranormal TV shows. Rats and other critters have taken up residency here besides its ghosts which are forgotten along with the property itself.

The town did put a fence so that you cannot pull up into the driveway and you would never notice it because its surrounded by overgrown trees. When I visit places like these I leave with more questions then I do answers. You have to wonder if at one time a large family lived here under candlelight before power came to this region. It was apparent they raised cattle and they may have at one time planted some crops as the land behind the home is very fertile. We know they had a shed and at one time it served as a coop.

What happen to the owners and questions about its most recent owners renovating is the properties biggest mystery.  In the kitchen some old Christmas decor still hangs from one of the cupboards while opposite of them is a series of shelves probably used to store pickled foods. Life was very simple however in the harsh winters you had to leave the bedroom to go downstairs outside only to enter the kitchen if you wanted to dine even in the valleys brutal winters.

I am an explorer in a matter of a few more years this place will not be around to enjoy or share with our viewers. But we wanted to give you the best of both worlds such as documenting the property during the day as opposed to how this place looks at night.  Its a piece of history early pioneer history that came to this valley and battled the harshness of the Nevada high desert. It kind of tells you a story on how this families lifeline is now a place where nature thrives. Birds, Bats, Raccoons and Rats have all taken this home and claimed it for themselves!  Also included may also be the dearly departed who may have passed on but never left the very homestead they crafted with there very own hands!
