Dead
Man's Oak
After a couple years of searching I finally was able to close in on its
location. Nobody for sure knows where it is I mean your dealing with over
1500 acres of woods back in here. Lots of swamps, woods, overgrown grass
lands etc even getting to this place is hell. This investigation has three
parts and this would be our most horrifying investigation of the night and
dangerous one as well so please try to grasp what we are about to share
with you.
Part
I
We starts off hiking in the woods behind the hell house through a grass
plain with high grass, brush and a few large trees spread out over an
area. We found sort of a path that led us to the woods all I cared about
is finding the oak tree which is said to be haunted by a headless horsemen
who rides up on a white horse. One thing that stood out is the heavy wind
which was blustering for about 15 minutes straight then it went dead no
more wind just silence.
I did not like it back here I heard something moving around following us I
do not think it liked Jason or I snooping back here. We found that the
trail dead ended and there was fresh dirt which looked like a grave. It
was very soft and dug like that of a grave. Even the grass was gone from
this area not sure if anything is buried here but it was odd being its a
heavy occult area then seeing the blood at the hell house nothing
surprises me here.
I looked off to my right and we seen an odd track in the fresh mud. It was
a giant foot print with 3 claw marks it looked like something prehistoric.
I can tell you right now this track is like nothing I seen. I took a photo
but tracks in the dirt do not appear very well unless you were to make a
plaster cast of it. I can describe the print as wider then my hand with
three deep impressions like long claws. Someone told me there are sloth's
in FL not sure if this foot print would match one.
We walked away from the print and something came crashing threw the woods
and quickly cross the trail. We seen an entire bush my height move.
Something was out there moving around it seen us and you bet your ass I
grabbed my sword quickly swung it around and held it right out in front of
me. What was out there had intelligent and it knew we did not belong back
here.
We took another trail which led us between some very old trees not sure
the species but the trunk was thick and the leaves were small it had also
a lot of tree moss draping them. On this trail we noticed lots of junk
including a mattress just sitting right in the middle of the trail. From
then on we stopped at the truck and arranged to conduct another part to
this investigation one that would be a true battle of our skills.
Part
II
We climbed over a gate on a private road which had grass growing on it.
With woods on both sides, hills and curves we had no idea what would lay
up ahead for us. We hiked for almost a mile and came up to a private trail
it was dark and it went deep into the woods.
Now keep in mind at this point our lights are just about dim Jason had two
spotlights both were out the other one we left in the car for later that
night. My maglite was so dim I could not see a thing. It had very little
juice so we basically dark hiked it down a very unfriendly path.
About a few hundred feet down the trail something was moving around it
turned out to be a few boars and they heard us. They were starting to
chase us and they were big. I did not run but the sword came out again as
we could not see them but they were close in within 20 feet of our
location. These boars were pissed off and they were trying to hunt
us down.
As we walked past them we jogged and got away we came up to some mounds in
the woods which looked man made. On the other side of it was a creek which
was fairly dry for the most part. On atop of the mound was a wood
structure in the middle of the woods with an old rushed machine not sure
what this was for but there is history back here.
We climbed one of those mounds took the trail both ways and it dead ended
so we were stuck backtracking on the trail past the boars again lovely
huh? Even atop of the hill all I could see for miles looked like woods,
fields, and brush. We basically were in the middle of nowhere. I even seen
a meteor shoot across the sky.
We did hike back to the original road we walked on and took that further
south and again it split in a Y but in less woods so we took it. We spent
awhile walking on a prairie there was fresh horse crap I missed a mud pie
by a few inches. At this point Jason's legs were terrible cut up, my
sneakers were soaked, and we were battling to find the dirt road where the
truck was parked on.
As we spent time hiking here I heard off in the distance screams, shrills,
and noises I cannot explain. I do not know what they were but I heard a
few while hiking in this general area. Strangely enough the path took us
back to machine in the woods after of course we found an old buried
tractor. One thing obvious is that we were followed most of this
investigation by what I am not sure but something was in those woods with
us could it have been the horsemen looking for his head? Its very
possible!
We had no choice but to climb a barbed wire fence to another field and
estimate where the truck could be. I was in an open field still looking
for the famed haunted oak tree. All we got was thorns, sand spurs, soaked
ground, and high grass hitting us in the face. At this point my knee was
in such bad pain but we kept pushing on for a half of mile till we came up
to this wall of heavy forest. When I say heavy it was almost impossible to
squeeze between the trees and brush. But I thought about it then I led the
way and 15 feet later was a 6 foot fence. On the other side was the dirt
road and truck in visible site and once again we pulled off another
adventure
Meanwhile when we got back to the car we did do a few more places such as
the Shingle Creek Grapefruit Plantation however I am going to skip over
this and bring you the final part to Dead Man's Oak this would be the
greatest part of our investigation of all.
Part
III
I was driving and found what looked like a trail so I turned the truck
onto it and all of sudden we were on a very rough hilly four wheeling
trail. I was quite worried about possibly being stuck here but with 4
wheel drive and a truck I was able to drive back here with ease.
This area was my final hope for finding our Oak Tree. We drove over a pile
of rocks, branches were hitting the truck, there was branches on the road,
it was a rough trip and eventually it dead ended in this large clearing.
It was not to large but a couple hundred feet. The road basically dead
ended at this giant oak tree.
It was the only Oak we seen while hiking and driving around. It was also
the most eerie oak of all as it was large at the base then twisted outward
shot up a little then bent again and its branches all hung right over the
clearing.
Some of the bigger branches on the tree were broke off not sure if its
caused by people in the past hanging off of them. Rumor has it that dead
animals use to be hung off it by the locals. It also appeared that this
clearing may have had recent construction trucks as the tread marks were
deep and wide. Its possible that one of them broke some branches on the
tree.
But nonetheless this was our tree it had to be dead man's oak. This area
was so cold near the tree Jason was rubbing his hands, I was freezing and
the temperature dropped easily 15 degrees. There was a strong presence
back here by this tree.
I called out the horseman Jason told me to stop he already had one
headless horsemen incident up in NY when I challenged one lol he did not
want a repeat incident:)
But we focused our investigation on the tree it was large, it was eerie,
it was disfigured, scarred up and more then likely there were signs
others have been back here. I did not see any vandalism, camp fires, beer
bottles so maybe this was not the tree but from the description and
information it fits the bill. The area is getting ready to be developed so
chances are this old oak will probably be chopped down and stories of the
headless horseman may cease to exist.
Although we did not see the white horse or the headless horseman it was
apparent something was moving around out in them woods and when I called
it out the movement picked up a lot as if it was becoming a little
uptight. Even though we spent hours hiking around different parts of
these woods I figured the horseman could be anywhere in these woods.
Then the hardest part of this investigation was having to drive backwards
and turn around on this narrow dirt road. I did manage it but It was hard
and had to be done without me getting myself stuck like when we were at
Bok Tower.
After this we did our final investigation of Shingle Cemetery but before I
get into that I want to talk about The Shingle Creek Plantation, Babb
House, and Prince House.
