The Comstock Lode contained some of the richest mines in the world as it overlooked and surrounded Virginia City. By taking this trail it will allow our viewers to see beautiful vistas of the city below, mills, mines, shafts, cemetery and even a quarry, Their are many back roads and trails that lead us into a Juniper forest where in the back hills of VC many secrets await including the ghosts that haunt this place. Our first visit would be a day exploration followed by a night investigation.	Many of the shafts nearly seem like bottomless pits to hell. Some of the shafts that are found along this trail were at one time the deepest in the world as much as 3,000' in depth. Today most of them are filled in or collapsed due to safety issues, tremors, floods, hot steam and errors of man.

As you traverse deeper into the Virginia Mountains you find their is another side to Virginia City that very rarely gets seen by its visitors. The back hills are full of forest, serene views, vistas and hidden historic sites. Just below these hills is the town which is littered with some of the most haunted sites in the country places like the Fourth Ward, School, Pipers Opera House, Washoe Club, Old Hospital etc all supposed haunted sites!	Virginia City is surrounded by a vast wilderness with great views of the Virginia, Pine Nut and Sierra Ranges. Not only are there great views of the mountains but also six mile Canyon below where some of the towns first mines were founded. As you can see from the video the area is a high desert with wildlife such as horses, rabbits, bobcats, mountain lions and small rodents. We are hiking our way towards an old quarry which was used to build up the town below.

Off in the distance is Sugar Loaf Mountain which an overgrown narrow curvy road runs around this monolithic site. From Virginia City one can see the mountain but from the Comstock Trail you can stand above it. Sugar loaf country is where Six-Mile Canyon cuts directly below. The mines found in this canyon were some of the biggest money makers in the lode and which prevented Utah for taking this territory for themselves as a state.	The old quarry resembles Devil's Post Pile at Mammoth. The rocks were used in many of Virginia Cities construction and mining projects. Allot of the rock found in the area is basalt or old volcanic rock as its quite common in this region. That is how many of the mountains and landscape was formed. Nobody knows how much of the rock was quarried here however between the vistas and its history it makes a great hike.

Within the Comstock it is not uncommon to find gravesites such as these. Back in the day miners perished in the mines some of them were buried near some of them. One of the oldest burial grounds in Virginia City resides along the Comstock Trail containing many unmarked graves leaving only the ghost of the miners to wander aimlessly in search of remembrance. This gravesite in particular says the name "Ralph" it may have been a neighbors dog. We recorded 3 EVP's at this site including a ghostly bark.	When you enter Virginia City one of the first major mining operations that greets you is the Combination Mine. This mill site and its debris piles are monolithic in size. Allot of what is left is foundations and its elevator mechanism that lowered the miners deep below the earth. Based on the debris piles one can tell that this by no means was a small mine. The ore would be mined out of here then processed at the mill site just above its shaft. Just below this operation is the town where off in the distance many other mines can be seen.

Relics such as this elevator mechanism are all that remains of the once mighty Comstock Lode which produced millions in gold and silver. The foundations and elevator house reside above the deep crevice which led into the Combination Mine below. Come explore with us as we uncover this mills secrets more in depth as I take you right along the edge.	We are finalizing our exploration at the bottom of the Combination Mill site. You can clearly see this massive mine is more like a historic temple that overlooks the city below. The second phase of this adventure would take place at night as we would eventually work on its haunting s rather then the trails beauty. To be continued......

We are hiking on the Comstock Trail only this time in the later hours of the night. Along the trail we find a headless rabbit which we spotted our first exploration totally still untouched. This time around we would focus the investigation on its ghost stories of the miners that haunt this trail. Our search would also focus on an old unmarked burial ground which may have been Virginia Cities first actual pioneer cemetery.	As I traverse deeper into a dark ravine in search of pioneer graves I find many remnants left behind by the miners. The ravine is dangerous especially at night littered with debris, rocks, thistles, holes and even wild animals. This was the most intense part of our investigation as we decided to leave the Comstock trail creating our own paths through Virginia Cities juniper forest.

No matter where you are you are never alone whether it is beast, man or ghostly. While I was making my way back up the ravine I did spot a set of eyes watching me then they vanished just as quick. Heading up the ravine is like a maze of foliage so I am having a difficult time getting back to Tammy. I cannot see where I am stepping let alone what is around me as its very dark. Eventually I make my way out of here where Tammy shows me an odd site that she found.	This hidden area along the Comstock Trail appears to have been an old miner burial ground. You can clearly see a few mounds of rocks as if someone or something had at one time been buried here then overtime the elements eroded these gravesites. Miners would be buried outside many of the mills and mines some of them without even a gravemarker so its hard to tell where they all are. This might attribute to the trail being as haunted as it is.

While searching in washes, ravines, canyons and mining sites you can find some very odd things. For example I found a long cross bow arrow in the brush that someone left behind and an old clay brick which doesn't match any of the milling sites along this trail. Within the brush that overlooks the city below are many secrets and strange finds all you have to do is search. There is history found everywhere some old some very new!	Our final area of the second investigation would take place at the Sutro ventilation shaft. At one time the Sutro Tunnel ventilated this deep tunnel this one being 1 of 4 of them. The tunnel was originally designed to relieve flooding as miners dug deep into the earth in search of mineral bearing quartz. Sadly when they drilled into hot water and steam it would cause injury, death and flooding. Some miners drowned in some of the mines or suffocated due to fires it was a deadly job. Just below this pit good men died some were never even found again. The tunnel below this pit acted like a subway that connected Virginia City to the town of Sutro/Dayton going underground approximately 4 miles. It was used to transport goods and people between both mining towns. I crossed the fence for our viewers to throw a stone down the shaft you can hear it fall as the sound fades as it falls into the shafts depths.
