The Cemetery Farmhouse is a true treasure up in the hills some may know it as the Carter Farmstead. Everything you could imagine a house could be; everything you could imagine as far as the perfect farm this would be it with ghost included. The farmhouse contains the biggest barns in the county one for a variety of animals such as pigs, cows, dog kennels Ect. The other barn is for hay, tractors, crops and even a work shop area. The house is very foreboding day or night as it is very overgrown and very large. The only regret we have here is that we did not fully get to explore the upper floors to the barn since both barns contain 3 floors a piece. Maybe next time.

There is roughly 8 bedrooms in the home, at least 4-5 fireplaces and many antiques from the past such as an old piano, desk, pool table, stoves and much more. The floors are wood and you can still see some of the old paints and wallpapers from the past. The house, property and barn are haunted by many different ghost. Perhaps these are the spirits have rested here from the cemetery nearby or perhaps it is the family as the farm would be handed down through the generations. This is a big house and was a large farming community. It also had a big family with probably the grandparents living here, many children, farmhands, caretaker, Ect Ect.... The family I believe is buried at the cemetery which is nearby the farmhouse.

The barns are so gorgeous; inside you have ladders going up to different areas, rooms, storage rooms and even a milk house. We thank Jim for finding this place for us so we could bring you a story on it. We did happen to visit this place during the day shortly and very late at night. It was a very intense investigation as we slowly walked the houses dark halls, attic and basement then walked towards the wooded hillside to the barns. One thing that bothered me about the barn is the 2 main doors were broke on it during the day unfixable more or less and later at night when we came back they were fixed even the wood was not broke or rotted. So what we have basically is a house or barn rather that seems to restore itself possibly. I took a day photo of the broken doors I did not get one at night due to not wanting  to draw attention to us  especially after someone was watching us from the road shortly before.

Imagine visiting a place so haunted that every photo you take has an apparition no matter where you turn or walk! Imagine having to tell the apparitions to stay out of some photos so you could get some non ghostly photos! This was the type of hauntingly scene it was. I could have taken 500 ectoplasm shots here if not gone all night however we chose not to be greedy since the whole family here has been captured on film. There was no evil here this was a good family a place of happiness where kids played on a tire swing, or captured crawfish in the creek nearby, or some homemade apple pie was baking as the cats were in the window sunbathing.  But none the less a feeling of being watched from the woods and hearing something moving around made me believe we were not alone.

Doing a little bit of research on this place I found out that Joah Carter in the 1800s owned the property and he would allow slaves to stay at his farmstead as a resting place. The farmstead stood in between Little Africa which was a black community where the slaves would earn money so they could escape to Canada or they would journey to Catlin & Miller farms which would most likely have underground railroads and provide a place for escaped fugitive slaves to live. Carters work with the underground railroad made him a pretty prominent and well known person in the Warren area thus making this property a part of history no wonder why it is so haunted imagine how many travelers helped earn there keep at this farmstead?

Also I did more research and found that this may have been home to another family at a later time called the Haupin Farmstead which was the Home to Female Assisting Society member Catherine Clark Haupin who raised her family on this farm, she is buried they said on the property at the family cemetery. So do you see why this is called the cemetery farmhouse? Pretty interesting facts really which probably is how come the house and property came to be so haunted.

What we hoped to bring you from our visit is for your mind to wander to imagine what farm life was like and the Hauntings that can occur at such a place. This farmhouse sits on a hill on a dirt road with woods sitting behind it. Its enough to give you chills but at the same time there is a mysterious beauty that looms the land. Why was such a beautiful house and farm abandoned? What happened to the family? Why is it so haunted? What use to happen here in the past 50 years ago? 100 years ago? These are just some of the questions I have to ask and maybe we may never find out but one thing is for certain the spirits that still take residence here show us some of the answers.

Update: In 2005 the historical farm house was burned down. The barns still stand but the cause is most likely vandals. We are very fortunate to have gotten to tour the home before it was destroyed. In recent times according to Jim one of our members told me that one of his geo cache buddies said that that the property was his grandfathers and now farmed by his brothers or the Carlisle family who had big plans but things did not work out. There have been talks about restoring the old home but all that remains is the chimney which I have photos stashed away somewhere that Jim took. I was also told at one time drama musicals were held in the bars.

Below is proof so everybody stop asking me its location its gone sad to say unless you wish to see a chimney!
